(In my finest John Facenda NFL Films voice) Through the chill of December the early winter moans... but it's that January wind that rattles old bones.
It sure was windy on Sunday night at the frozen tundra of Wilshire Boulevard, at a bar, no, a force of nature, known as Thunderbird.
Sorry, I think the wildcard weekend left me with football on my mind. Eight teams of grass-stained battle-hardened gladiators of trivia competed on the fields of glory. An early double or nothing put the fighting spirit of St Louis Cardinal Rosenberg ahead in the first round, and was the sole 10-point solve for the Guess Who round. But settling in for a long season (and a long name) And the Golden Globe goes to Dan Mitchell otherwise known as the four horsemen of the gridiron... bided their time jumping into the lead with back to back double or nothings on rounds 5 and 6, and never looked back, although a last gasp final round double or nothing by Chicken Tortilla Soup vaulted them into second place (in addition to their drinking round victory, estimating the sum of the heights of the tallest buildings in each continental US timezone), with Cardinal Rosenberg finishing third.
Trivia is a game; not a war. It's for win or lose, not life or death... but say that in the summer, for winter brings the playoffs, and a season is at stake.

Tonight was ALL about celebrating, from the wild 49ers/Seahawks game to the holiday season and the exciting and lively trivia night at Thunderbird. 15 teams competed to see who would win the game and walk away with some great drink tokens!
The game started off with a few questions that tripped everyone up, such as What South American country won the first FIFA World Cup in 1930 and What is the official state beverage of Indiana? I saw answers such as beer, chocolate milk, Fanta and tea, but who knew that the answer was WATER!? Our #1 winning team successfully doubled during this round and it started them on a hot streak going forward.
Despite the craziness of the football game (I believe there was a last second almost touch down), our teams remained focused and at least 1 team per round doubled! While some of the teams went with Chris over Liam Hemsworth for round 4, everyone walked away smiling 🙂
Our drinking round asked participants to guess how heavy the New Years Eve ball is...an incredible 12,000 pounds! Ellie's favorites won that one with a guess of 17k (and not just because of their team name, I promise you that!). In the end, Return of the Trivia Jedis took first place after doubling 4 times and gaining 90 points, Weissmanchego took second with 67 points and there was a tie break between Ellie's Favorites and Clan McDuck. Both teams guessed admirably, but Ellie's Favorites took that third place price.
Thanks again to the staff and everyone that participated! Hope to see you all again soon.

The holidays are just around the corner and King Trivia had another amazing evening of q's and a's at Thunderbird.
8 teams competed to see who would end up the evening's champ and $30 in Thunderbird chips.
"On the Season Finale of Dan Mitchell" and "Egghead Ranchero" started the game strong with 8 points each. "Naughty List Party" Doubled or Nothing in Round 2 and unfortunately, got ONE answer wrong confusing Jim and John Belushi causing them to get a big ole "0" for the round. "On the Season Finale of Dan Mitchell" ALSO went for the Double or Nothing in Round 3 and ALSO answered only one question incorrectly and ALSO got a big ole "0" for the round. This helped "Egghead Ranchero" gain the lead with 17 points. But by only one point in front of "The Stocking Stuffer" who had 16 points. "Cardinal Claus" wasn't far behind with 15 points. "On the Season Finale of Dan Mitchell" came back strong in Round 4 when they guessed the famous person on the 8 point clue taking the lead and maintaining it until Round 6 when they BUSTED again as they went to Double or Nothing. "Egghead Ranchero" took the lead and ended the evening in FIRST place grabbing $30 in Thunderbird chips.
"The Stocking Stuffer" and "On the Season Finale of Dan Mitchell" BOTH ended the game with 37 points. I whipped out the tie breaking question and "The Stocking Stuffer's" answer was the closest to the answer. They nabbed SECOND place and $20 in Thunderbird chips. "On the Season Finale of Dan Mitchell" went home in THIRD place and $10 in Thunderbird chips.
Thanks to George, Kristina, and the rest of the Thunderbird team for the delicious food and drinks. Have a great Holiday Season and I'm looking forward to next time!
