Foul weather brought out a small group of determined quizzers this fine Tuesday evening. When a number of teams arrived to find their members absent, several decided to form super groups rather than go it alone against the veterans. This led to a few powerful combinations of new and old players, each bringing their skills to bear for this epic throw down.
What made the quiz even better was the presence of another QM in training: Edward. This bespectacled tall drink of water used his experience running a movie theater to win over the crowd. By Round 3, they were chanting his name and raising banners in his honor.
But of course the night wasn't about a coronation. It was about a bit of trivia. Seven rounds of trivia to be precise. After just a few, it was clear that the super groups had an advantage. They knew when to double and when to play safe. They covered each other, deploying expert knowledge at a moment's notice.
As always, the Double Down proved the defining line between winners and losers (#therearenolosersinkingtrivia). When Random Awesome Strangers doubled up during the penultimate round, they cleared the path to victory. That's what made the epic rise of A-Z so special. They'd lagged behind for most of the night, but a brave couple of doubles put them in striking distance of first place.
In the end, no one knew much about a Heptathalon. The few that managed to guess well separated from the pack and took their place on the coveted stage.
Special props go to Team Ash, who arrived with no prior knowledge of King Trivia or the general rules of the game. They played hard and earned a free tray of Potato Pancakes, which we can only assume awoke an appetite that can only be sated by more trivia.
Come on down to Rasselbock every Tuesday night for King Trivia!
I had the great privilege of filling in as Quizmaster at the wonderful and lively Rasselbock L.A. tonight! A ton of teams showed up to play King Trivia, and the competition was fierce.
Sassy Mali, Check for Fruits, and newcomers Mason Rudolph's Helmet all started off strong with successful doubles in round one, and remained the teams to beat for the duration. The picture round gave everyone a bit of trouble, with no perfect scores -- mostly because nobody could seem to identify singer Sarah Brightman from a photo (yours truly included).
Frightened Inmate #2 took the Bonus Appetizer round, thanks to their knowledge of Seinfeld (or just very good guessing skills), and in Round 5 Rigi Duo caught everyone by surprise by jumping into first place with a successful double-or-nothing. Gruesome Twosome entered the running as well, and it was anyone's game going into the last 2 rounds!
Quite a few teams nailed round 6 with perfect scores, so it all came down to the final round; that ended with Mason Rudolph's Helmet and Sassy Mali in a tie for first place, and a classic Moonlight/La La Land mixup when announcing the winner of a very close tiebreaker. At the end of the night it was newcomers Mason Rudolph's Helmet, in what was allegedly their first-ever experience with King Trivia, who seized ultimate victory. Sassy Mali and Rigi Duo rounded out the top three, but all of the teams achieved fantastic scores tonight!
Well done, everyone.

An ENORMOUS evening at the incredible Rasselbock Kitchen in Grill. 12 teams--and a crowd of 36 hungry quizzers--came together to the intellectual gridiron for seven rounds of intense trivia combat.
Making the night even more special was the appearance of a Quizmaster in Training, Derek! This dashing host brought a new energy and incredible mic skills to the show, dazzling the guests as he delivered the questions with perfect enunciation.
Things started easy enough, with the teams all holding roughly the same line for the first few rounds. Once the Appetizers came out, though, the competition grew fierce. Germans Love David Rasselbock took home the potato pancakes (in their bellies), while Heroes of Canton and Sassy Mali surged toward the front.
In the final two rounds, David Rasselbock separated far from the pack to secure their victory. It was a surprising upset by newcomers Bone Knofler that shook the very foundations of the restaurant. Stealing second, they knocked out veteran competitors and earned their spot in Rasselbock lore.
It was a great time had by all, especially the newest member of the King Trivia family: Derek.
Come on down to Rasselbock every Tuesday night for more King Trivia at 9PM!
