Rasselbock is known for many things: great food, amazing beer, the best staff this side of the Mississippi. But tonight, it was all about the Trivia. Ten teams, some hastily assembled onsite, gathered for two hours of intense, world-shaking quizzing. Only the strong survived.
The first few rounds went at a breakneck speed, with each team boldly throwing around Double Downs with wild abandon. We had three and four-way ties across the leaderboard, and it was hard to see how to break the scores.
Then came a wild, marshmallow-filled Appetizer Round. Each team took a turn tossing puffed sugar into the air, using only their mouth-eye-coordination to land a successful goal. Heroes of Canton earned the coveted Potato Pancakes, and suddenly the game shifted.
Scores rose and plummeted, with teams suddenly beset by huge knowledge gaps. Jackalopes, once a heavy favorite, dropped further and further behind. Meanwhile, Canton and Shnitz drew neck and neck with no end in sight.
The final round decided the victor, as it so often does. The Heroes of Canton knew a little more about Matt Damon than the competition, sneaking a single point ahead to secure their victory.
Rasselbock will be launching their Oktoberfest celebration on September 21st, but King Trivia is every Tuesday night at 9PM! Come join in the fun.
There's no such thing as a quiet night at Rasselbock. When this Quizmaster first arrived, the restaurant had just emptied from the dinner rush. Tables were cleared, servers caught their breaths, and for a moment we wondered if any teams would show.
Then the floodgates opened.
Eight teams, each hungry for the win (and some of Rasselbock's famous pretzels) sat down and readied their quiz books. At 9PM, the show began.
Team Artemis, a veteran of the Rasselbock gridiron, stepped off to an early lead with an audacious double down. Heroes of Canton, not to be outdone, dropped their own double in Round 2 and stole the spot. This back and forth would continue the entire night.
Two of our younger teams, VAPR and Sauce My Hog, chose to bow out after several grueling rounds left them too far behind. They each received a rousing round of applause, which I hear is as good as cash money in some parts of Los Angeles.
The Appetizer Round went to our returning champs the Heroes of Canton, who accurately surmised that the world's longest Guitar Solo had to be at least 22 hours (it was actually 24 hours and 55 minutes).
In the final stretch, with the teams neck and neck, it all came down to the last round. While every single team new the leaders of the DPRK, few remembered their 6th-Grade chemistry class. When the dust settled, Team Artemis held their ground for the last time, securing the top spot.
Come down to Rasselbock next Tuesday night and join us for the best Trivia on the West Side!
Happy National Fresh Breath Day!
Competition was just as fresh this Tuesday at Rasselbock, where an entire restaurant-full of newcomers arrived to unseat our returning champions. Some brought their A game, others just "a" game.
Things started off on the right foot, with a massive three-way split for first place. The teams brought the smack talk, but could they bring the answers?
By Round Three, our returning champs the Heroes of Canton (former Anustart, formerly I Don't Know How to Pronounce This Name) stayed at the top of the pack, but newcomers Sassy Rufus nipped gingerly at their heels. A score would have to be settled.
During the famous Appetizer Round, it seemed one team definitely had the "munchies" for some delicious potato pancakes. Bucking trends and answering convention, CBD Hummus took the prize and set out to eat their well earned treat.
Things heated up in the back half, as Sassy Rufus and Team Artemis slugged it out for Second. Canton held their ground, but a sudden burst at Round 6 left them wavering. Could they hold the lead?
Round Seven was all about Britney Spears, and our teams were straight flummoxed. Turns out the Princess of Pop was not as popular with this group as one might think. Still, everyone did their best and threw out some well-informed guesses.
At the end of the night, Team Artemis clawed their way to third place with a tie-breaker question, Heroes of Canton secured second place, and Sassy Rufus took the top box.
