For those dedicated fans of the MTV cult classic reality series, The Challenge (formerly Real World/Road Rules Challenge) and its various incarnations, famously including Rookies vs. Veterans -- you will appreciate the live version taking place at Rocco's in Culver City each Monday night.

Our version is Staff vs. Regulars vs. First-Timers. Each Monday, our stable of regulars show up for a weekly battle royale -- Mr. T Says Curlin is Cool, Itty Bitty Ditty, Paddington Kills, Area 51, et al, but a new pattern is emerging -- as each week, we draw in more and more first timers who are giving our regulars a fight to the round 7 finish. And now the staff is back and playing.

Like MTV regular Johnny Bananas, whenever podium prizes are handed out, Mr. T Says is always somewhere to be found, riding a second round successful double or nothing straight to a 3rd place finish, keeping the word "veterans" in Rocco's vernacular for one more week.

But, this week it was a Rookie tug-of-war -- the topically named Justice Kava-hell-nah led for most of the game, until the game of baseball reared its head, and the Masseusers hit a proverbial trivia grand slam on the handout round, garnered 20 points, and powered to the championship.

Here's the twist -- when either of these teams return, they will become the Regulars, the student will become the teacher, and a new crop of first-times will be on hand to dethrone the locals...

QUIZ RECAP

Kicking off Independence Day week in strong fashion we busted out 8 teams on a holiday week and saw our game host a (mostly) swapped out regulars for some long-time returnees and some newcomers to the game. Which means its time to crown a new champion... let's do it:

A lot of flip-flopping all game long, saw 4 different teams hold first place over the 7 rounds. In the end, deep knowledge of celebrity spawn and broadcast network initializing saw LA Bron celebrate the incoming big NBA signing in championship fashion -- with our newest regulars, Area 51, get caught by their insistence on premium cable.

In a dog fight for 3rd, it was actually round 2's successful double or nothing - tennis fans gonna tennis fan -- that pushed No Time For Name? into the upper echelon, and let them hold on dearly for 3rd, barely edging out Bed, Bath & Beyonce by 2 points...

Happy 4th.

QUIZ RECAP

There was this King Trivia game, held weekly at Rocco's Culver City -- slowly, but surely it grew, then it plateaued, but suddenly we live in a world, where Mondays at Rocco's Culver City are lively, and for the first time, the game crossed the double-digit threshold -- 13 teams threw down for the rights to call themselves trivia champions.

Several local regulars, a newly minted long-distance regular, and a bunch of folks who stumbled into a jolly, good Monday found themselves in a game where the winners Guessed Who on the first set of clues, only missed 3 questions the rest of the game -- to give Paddington a coasted 3rd victory in 4 weeks...

Just behind them, the late arriving (bc they travel from the South Bay), but dominant performing Area 51.

A chugging into 3rd, Itty Bitty Ditty Committee...

Good times, good times.
