About Scuttlebutt Taproom & Brewery

 

Founded by Phil and Cynthia “Scuttle” Bannan in 1996, the idea started as a homebrewing kit for Father’s Day 1990. As thoughtful as the gift was, it was also a source of strife – Scuttle wanted to use the kitchen for preparing meals for the family while Phil was crowding her out in favor of homemade beer. To maintain marital bliss we decided to move out of the kitchen and into a larger operation. A business plan was established in 1995 and we grew our operation from 5 gallon buckets to a 20 barrel system.

 

We brewed our first beer on July 4, 1996 with a 20 barrel system in the brew house, two 20 barrel fermenters and one 20 barrel bright tank. We brewed three styles of beer and finished out that first year with 170 barrels sold. Since then our capacity has grown and we have broadened our product line to include more than 20 styles of hand-crafted ales and lagers.

 

After more than 20 years Scuttlebutt Brewing Company remains family owned and independent.

I can't say it enough. The trivia at Scuttlebutt on Tuesday is always a blast.

Tonight we had five teams battling it out for supremacy and it was back and forth all night.

In the end it was The Jackelopes who were victorious. PDRoE always seems to be the bridesmaids. Maybe next week they will come out on top.

Cornholio, My couch and I'd Hit That all had strong games and had the high score for a round.

I want to thank everybody who continues to come out and drink some beer while answering some questions. Also, a huge shoutout to Taylor for serving us drinks tonight. Hopefully we will see you in the future again.

What an absolute great night of trivia at Scuttlebutt tonight. We are getting a strong turnout week after week.

The first two rounds had everybody neck and neck except Suck it, Trebek who showed their Disney geekiness and nailed the picture round. I personally would have scored zero.

The next two rounds had PDRoE climbing closer and closer to the leaderboard and got within 2 after round 4.

The fifth round had the leaders double the round and put them ahead for good. Cornholio had a strong showing coming in third for the night.

Congratulations to everybody on the sixth round. All teams scored 20 with their vast knowledge of world religions.

I will see everybody next week and maybe a couple of people at the St. Patrick's Day party.

Another packed night at Scuttlebutt. if you are not here on Tuesday nights for trivia, you are missing out.

In the early part of the night PDRoE took a nice lead by doubling up in the first round and scoring a perfect score in the third round.

After the fourth round they held a five point lead of HLP and a six point lead over Suck it, Trebek!.

Not a lot would change in the next couple rounds, but wait until the final round.

In the seventh round is when the LOTR geekiness cam out of everybody. Five teams were able to name all nine characters that started the quest to Mount Doom and the other three teams named eight. The key was four teams doubled and one of them Suck it, Trebek!, that allowed them to pass PDRoE who also scored a perfect round but did not double. Congratulations.

I am excited to see this night getting bigger and bigger every week. I hope to see everybody again next week at the same time.
