LA reached a record high of 100 degrees on Wednesday night -- but we all stayed cool indoors playing a delightfully heated game of trivia!
Co-owner Kevin came out to join in the fun, too, adding to the liveliness with an impromptu victory dance after Round 2 and echoing that the best part of trivia is when there are no phones in the vicinity and we're all being present together!
What was remarkable was the three-way tie that soon emerged after Round Three -- something this newly-minted Quizmaster has not seen in her time quizzing so far -- and it became quickly clear that these six teams were going to stay on each other's tails all night long.
It was joyous to see Dry Butts reappear again after last week -- formerly known as Party of Five -- and they clinched their reigning Drinking Round winning title as they had the least limited knowledge (meaning everyone else but them was limited in their knowledge) of Ed Sheeran out of all of the teams. (Yes, this Quizmaster loves Ed dearly and could not believe everyone knew so little about him... but musical taste is relative.)
The Guess Who? round flummoxed many -- and while every team successfully doubled down in Round Two, the double or nothing was used less shrewdly in a challenging final Round Seven. Those tricky NFL teams will sneak up on you...and unfortunately, the Colts, Steelers, and Chiefs were listed despite their silent 'L's and 'F's.
First-timers at Goal Sports, Toby Rollers, won in one of the closest games in Goal Sports history with a lead of 70 while Spicey Meat-a-Ball came in second with just one point away, and Goal Regulators held down the fort with 62 points.
Thank you to all the teams for a juicy fun game. Yes, a pun from our Round #3 that was all juice-centric and yes, we all voted unanimously that Grabbin' Grape sounds wrong for a drink and I personally thought Big Red would be a great alternate name for the Hawaiian Punch mascot if he/she/they didn't have a name already. Oh! and we also determined that in our current age of staying woke, the Hawaiian Punch mascot could be gender-neutral and deemed "they."
There was also raucous cheering over the Googleplex in San Jose -- as your Quizmaster had just come back from her hometown of San Francisco and there were others out here tonight from the great NorCal Bay Area.
So good to spend Wednesday night with y'all and keep on coming back!
Will Toby Rollers return to hang onto their lead? Will Dry Butts make a triumphant comeback? Will Spicey Meat-a-Ball show both teams what's up? Will the Ravens make another heroic showing? Will Goal Regulators dominate with more football knowledge? Will Fielding Yost get next week's matching round right?
And yes, we did all agree that the dogs would have made an adorable picture round as well. Though these pictured pixels (depicted next to a very yummy ginger beer) are dang cute, too, right?
Five teams came to battle it out in a mighty game of trivia on a balmy Wednesday mid-July night.
A surprise turn-around happened when dark horse team Ally Cheats at Uno went from last place in the first round to tied for second place in Round 5, and ended up landing right on top at Round 7 with a whopping total of 67 points. See -- anything can happen when you don't stop believing! And when you know your mountain ranges and coffee-exporting countries.
Two successful double-downs and a completely spot-on international knowledge of the mountain ranges around the world and also the top ten countries that export coffee led them to take home the title of Champion for the night!
Party of Five, a first-timer at this location, were ready to rock and roll from the very beginning. Fun fact: they also had a member who was a former Quizmaster and King Trivia writer herself! They won the Drinking Round aptly titled "Can You Feel the Love Tonight?" (yes, this Quizmaster had quite a ball coming up with this round), where their designated team representative named the most Disney movies that have been adapted, or are going to be adapted, as live-action films. They ruled Round 5, with their lucky number 5. And! They came in Second Place. Will they be back next week to make another stalwart effort at First Place? Only time will tell.
Our two beloved regular teams, Goal Regulators and Spicy Meat-a-Ball came in neck and neck till the end, until Goal Regulators emerged victorious for Third Place. Goal Regulators' experience with crossword puzzles got them in just the right shape for the homonym round.
The BGs also gave it a good run throughout the rounds -- and the most important thing is that they had fun playing.
Move over, ruby chocolate. Rose' chocolate was dreamed up as the answer for a variety of new pinkish-colored chocolate and though incorrect, sounds wildly delicious.
Honorable mention for best (incorrect) answer of the night?
Q: "A perfect couple or something you strike."
A: "Love."
Don't strike out at love -- it's in the air everywhere!
Especially at Goal Sports Cafe when we're playing trivia with our loved ones and new friends!! See you next week!!
