YAY Backstreet's Sanyee's back alright!

I was so happy to see everyone again this Wednesday after being away last week for my other job where I had to interview Jim Carrey for his new Sonic the Hedgehog film!

But you guys are just as cool as JC to me, I promise!

And you know what else I brought back this time around? Back by popular demand, well back by Nathan's demand -- the drinking round where we all go round and down a list! When you give me feedback, I listen 🙂

Tonight, we went around and named movies that ScarJO is in! Did you know...she will be the 11th actor to be nominated for two categories at the same time at the Oscars this year? One for Best Actress and one for Best Supporting Actress!

Well, everyone was on their edge of their seats as each of the Avengers movies got named, then all the rom coms, then Vicky Cristina Barcelona, then Ghost in the Shell where she tried to play an Asian person, then all the award-nominated ones. And I'm surprised no one said HER! Where she played the AI that Joaquin Phoenix fell in love with.

Ellie from Mark Dellham Sucks creatively said "the Scarlett Johansson documentary" which was a great guess to try to hang in there but then it came down to I Lost My Virginity At... and Mustache Rides 5 cents. Well Mustache Ride 5 cents had a lot of ScarJo savvy and won the round for their table!

Props to I Shower with My Dad, though, for good sportsmanship -- and when other reps wanted to just give up rather than think of a name, he joined me with the ten-second countdown to give the extra time to think some more!

I didn't even have to go to my tiebreaker -- which was which order does ScarJo fall in for the order of net worth of the Avengers? The answer is 3rd! Chris Hemsworth is 5th, Bradley Cooper 4th, Vin Diesel 2nd, then good ole RDJ Robert Downey, Jr. is 1st!

Okay well now I see why Nathan wanted this Drinking Round iteration back -- it is loads more fun!

Now to recap the regular game, well we started off with a three-way tie between Mustache Rides, I Lost My Virginity At..., and Spicey Meat-a-Ball with seven points apiece and Agents of the Zeitgeist fresh off their appearance at the Tournament of Champions this past Saturday doubling down successfully and getting 14 points after Round One.

Alas I couldn't make it to the tourney of champs bc I was emceeing a Lunar New Year celebration in Pasadena! Happy Lunar New Year of the Rat everyone! It was hilarious how Round Seven was name the animal crackers in Stauffer's Animal Cracker cookies and you all named animals that were like in the Chinese zodiac instead of in the cookie boxes.

Anyways, I'm getting ahead of myself -- scores were close in Round 2, then double downs for Agents of the Zeitgeist and Mustache Rides in Round 3 put them in the lead at 32 and 26.

Round 4 was Bill Maher -- which most teams didn't get till the four point clue except Mark Dellham Sucks which got it at the eight point clue! I Lost My Virginity At... got a lil trigger-happy and guessed Adam West at the ten point clue but everyone started to wrack up more points by Round 5, where the connection was famous explorers! A bit o' fun history trivia for ya there.

Love the guesses --

"What Illinois prison is Jake released from at the beginning of Blues Brothers?"

"Columbus Penitentiary." Wrong, but creative. (It was Joliet.)

"Who was married to director Mel Brooks until her death in 2005?"

"Mrs. Brooks." (Anne Bancroft.)

But hey when ya don't know the answer, you get a shout-out still for being creative and not giving up entirely!

Round 6 was a breeze for Mark Dellham Sucks doubling down, while other teams all got 3-5 correct for the matching of each TV series to the title of its series finale.

And Round 7 was that animal crackers round!

Going into Round 7, Agents of the Zeitgeist clung onto their lead with 60pts, then Mark Dellham Sucks roared ahead of Mustache Rides with 52 to the latter's 44. So it was definitely anyone's game, still!

That's why you guys missed me so much last week, right? Cuz of my boundless optimism, right?

And my hilarious asides where I tell you random trivia about myself like that question with the Porsche and I was like hey who remembers that episode of FRIENDS where they're saying it's pronounced Porsche-a! Cuz FRIENDS is my favorite show ever and next week's drinking round is going to be trivia about your trivia host so you better have paid attention to all my random facts about myself.

Well, Agents of the Zeitgeist still pulled ahead with the lead, Mark Dellham Sucks came in second, and Mustache Rides 5 cents nabbed third!

Huge shout-out to Not "It" for playing at the bar and doing a fantastic job as a one-person team!

And I Shower with My Dad were really good toooooo -- it was just those double downs where you would get one answer wrong that set you back. Twice.

And so happy to see Eton back with Spicey Meat-a-Ball tonight -- I know work's been keeping you away but we're glad your team still held down the fort even when you were away.

And we miss you, Andrew P of I Lost My Virginity At... !!! Your team didn't nab the W for you tonight, but I can attest to how they put in a stalwart effort! And also like ten people came out tonight to comprise the team! Counting down the days till you come back in March 🙂

It feels so good to be back, guys. I totally get it now when I ask y'all what fun thing you did this week and you say trivia is the highlight of your week! I look forward to my Wednesdays bc of you and GOAL fam 🙂 also you help me dissipate my cabin fever from days when I'm working from home, burying my nose in 500pg novels for my other job, assessing whether or not those manuscripts should be adapted to the big screen!

Also lol I promise I'm getting a new phone soon so I can take better pix of your beautiful faces! Mine is like circa 2016 and I just have a hard time parting with things I love. But I'll go shop soon -- 2020 resolution -- welcoming the upgrades in my life!

QUIZ RECAP

A night of sports, good food and TOUGH questions at Goal tonight! Our teams gave a wide variety of feedback, some thought that rounds like #3 (which asked players to answer questions using "sheep" or "wolf") were really hard while rounds like #2 (identifying celebrity religions) were very easy. That's the sign of a nicely balanced game!

Round 4 asked players to identify Elizabeth Warren from the various clues provided and teams were ON IT! From just the first clue, two teams answered correctly and all teams were able to identify the person correctly by the end of the round. It was fascinating to learn more about such a powerful and amazing woman and I was happy to see all participants getting excited to learn more about the big E.W.! Unfortunately, the team made entirely of non-American players had some difficulty, but came back to answer the question about the British band Squeeze later on. Alls fair in love and global trivia!

In the end, The Champs Are Here held their strong lead throughout the game, Schwartznegger slammed it in in the last 3 rounds and Thindler's Lisp pulled out the perfect 10 on Round 6! Everyone played well tonight and we had so much fun, thanks for coming everyone!

It was so nice to be back to GOAL after a three-week holiday hiatus!

I loved seeing all the familiar faces and also new ones! HAPPY 2020 😀

Welcome Adam and Jeremy who played under Philadelphia Battery Co today -- and are going to be in the Tournament of Champions later this month. After trivia wrapped, they were still at their table with the team whipping out trivia flashcards to prep -- so all those other teams at the Tournament better watch out!

And we're so glad to be able to see Andrew from I Lost My Virginity At... off before he goes on his jetsetting globetrotting work-trippin' all over Europe and then to Memphis! We can't wait to see you back in March!!

Very fittin that there was a Memphis q tonight --

"Which city is the home to FedEx HQ and Elvis Presley's Graceland?"

We saw so many crazy double downs of the night -- I Lost My Virginity At... was in the lead from Round One after a double down, then all the teams doubled successfully for Round Two. Round Five saw a double down from Philadelphia Battery Co that put them in the lead, then a double down for Mark Dellham Sux during Round Six aka the perfect musical round for Mattie and Ellie to rock out at, followed by an ironic Round 7 where no one got a perfect score. But I Lost My Virginity At... got "The Perfect Score" the movie which everyone else forgot also starred ScarJo and Chris Evans!

And Epstein Didn't Kill Himself won the Drinking Round -- which was a bunch of guessing for the most popular baby girl and baby boy names. Then again, maybe that's an antiquated question bc it's 2020 and we should appreciate gender neutrality.

Hahahah YAY have fun across the pond, Andrew! You're basically switching places with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle bc they're going to Canada from the UK while you're orig from Canada and heading to the UK 🙂 Will be sure to write some good recaps for ya to keep you in the loop so you know how your team is holding down the fort at GOAL! <3
