VALENTINE'S DAY ODE TO GOAL
Never have I ever had a relationship last past six months...till now!
What a coincidence to celebrate six months and one week with hosting trivia at GOAL Sports right as we celebrate the week after Valentine's 🙂
and yes, I'm not the only one still carrying on the holiday -- Round Two was perfect for all the ladies (and gentlemen) who knew how to name V Day brands such as 1-800-Flowers, Chanel, and The Body Shop.
Let me count the ways that I can profess my love for hosting here.
You've been patient with me ever since we began getting to know each other, as I went through the learning curve of figuring out the sound system and timing for running an efficient game. (and mental math.)
You've been thoroughly supportive of my dreams and goals, from the times I've announced my writing projects making it past screenwriting competitions at drinking rounds to the last-minute auditions and shoots I've had to leave for when you all missed me but still wished me the very best because if you love someone, you want them to succeed in every way possible. (Just like how I always want every team to win!)
We've survived long-distance during the holidays when I've wanted to spend my Thanksgiving, Christmas, and long weekends in San Francisco. Never once did I doubt you'd be back in LA, waiting for me to return. And I regaled my family and friends with the lively stories we shared together.
And did I mention how I love introducing my family and friends to you? I don't dread it; I delight in it!
You've always kept me well-fed with delicious food and a seemingly un-ending supply of buffalo wings and strawberry lemonade.
You make me smile and lift my spirits on hard days!
You make me smile even more on the best days.
Every hosting experience is new and different -- we keep the excitement going with unpredictable twists, turns, and surprises.
With you, commitment is not a scary thing at all but a grand adventure and unparalleled endeavor.
We embrace the best and worst of each other, surviving painful losses, weathering both gut-punching curveballs and head-scratching moments, and celebrating the most exhilarating triumphs.
We have aged together, grown together, learned together.
We -- well, I, have documented each milestone of our burgeoning relationship through photos and lengthy recaps, cementing memories for us to look back on like a scrapbook of our highlights.
You have taught me to be more selfless, to think beyond myself and you have opened my eyes to how I don't need to be perfect. I can just be me and I will be accepted through my mistakes and quirks, and maybe even loved all the more for them.
We live in the moment and we never forget to have fun.
And most of all, you remind me that in life, we should always double or nothing because then we can say we weren't afraid to try 🙂
<3 <3 <3
XOXO,
your forever Valentine SANYEE
PS lol -- as to how last night's game went: we celebrated Ashley's third week at GOAL, Jasmine got new boss headshots, Doug no longer has to commute from Irvine, Cody came to chillax on his Wednesday off again, I celebrated Galentine's with Ally and chocolate,
the President's Drinking Round came down to five unlisted Presidents (omg how is everyone always so good at this one anywhere I play it!), Socialist Overlords won the Drinking Round as Elizabeth Warren won the Dems debate on-screen,
I told y'all about the series regular CW audition I had for the reboot of Kung Fu (yes, the 70s show starring David Carradine that now in the woke 2020s will have an Asian female lead instead of a non-Asian gentleman at the forefront),
and I Lost My Virginity At... roared from fourth place after Round 4 to second place with their double down in Round 5 and made it to Round 6 with a one-point lead in second, then hung onto second place in Round 7, notching their first comeback into the top three after the last few weeks and of course dedicating the W to Andrew P in the UK.
Socialist Overlords could not be caught all night, also winning the Drinking Round and Shaquille Oatmeal knew their sci-fi literature tyrants to notch their third-place title. And both teams asked if I was interested in coming to play trivia next time with them at a different venue -- after all, I got the pop culture down to an art in this brain of mine and as I told both of 'em, I'm a free agent!
But I promise I love you all equally -- see you next week!
Love filled the air at GOAL sports bar tonight! From the love songs playlist to the love themed drinking round, there was no way anyone DIDN'T know that Valentines Day is just around the corner! Teams worked incredibly hard with Peronivirus (first timers!) scoring 58, Roger Stone's Tattoo with 49 and 2 Facts 2 Furious with 47.
During round one, the question regarding Little Women led to some of the funniest answers I've ever seen like "Too Little Women," "2 Little 2 Women" and "Slightly Larger Women." This question stumped everyone as no one could answer it correctly! Even if wrong, a funny answer is always appreciated 😉
Our drinking round asked the team members to guess how many conversation hearts (I.e. those little hearts you get and don't eat on Valentines Day) are in a standard sized box. I received answers from 14 to 120, but the answer was 24 pieces!
It's always my pleasure to sub in at GOAL Sports Bar and I can't wait to be back soon!! Thanks for coming everyone and we wish you a love filled (or just lovely) Valentines Day 🙂
The groundhog apparently could not find his shadow, hence predicting two weeks of early spring but we all agreed it was way too cold and near-frosty outside so we kept it warm and toasty in GOAL!
We welcomed Cody's return, a sight for sore eyes, bringing GOAL Regulators back into the game for the first time all 2020!
And then Ellie held down the formidable fort for Mark Dellham Sux well into Round 4.
I Lost My Virginity At... took an early lead with a successful double down after Round One, which boggled new players BOSTON who were like "how could they get 14 and we only get 3?"
Well, what can I say? They're trivia pros 🙂
They doubled down along with Cody from GOAL Regulators and Spicey Meat-a-Ball to name those shady characters, well silhouettes of famous cartoon characters. Y'all watch a lotta cartoons! I didn't even know Dexter. I was like who's Dexter? And Jasmine called out "from Dexter's Lab!"
Round 3 with Famous Freds was where GOAL started to advance ahead as they doubled down when no other team did. For the q, "All-Star 'Downtown' Freddie Brown played 13 seasons for what Washington team?"
I Lost My Virginity At... guessed Washington Wizards, then crossed it out. The answer was Seattle SuperSonics, but I love the idea of a sports team being alliterative and called the Wizards!
For Round 4, I Lost My Virginity At... was just as trigger-happy as last week, turning in the answer at the ten-point clue. However, they were in the ballpark of the individual and didn't guess the actual one. They guessed Robin Roberts when the individual in question was Katie Couric. But so close!!
They dropped to a tied second at 33 pts with Spicey Meat-a-Ball, GOAL clung onto their lead and Mark Dellham Sux was in last.
Then, we had a glorious Drinking Round to honor this Sunday's upcoming Oscars weekend, going round to name Best Pictures from years past!
Our rep from GOAL seemed to know all the years that films were nominated but not the actual winners -- so that is still good historical savvy. Plus, he's a member of the Academy so he definitely gave props to I Lost My Virginity At...'s Andrew who was the last one standing!
Ellie said Wizard of Oz, GOAL rep said Citizen Kane, neither had actually won but we agreed all were robbed of the Oscars back in their day. Well, I guess we'll just tune into this weekend's Oscars, the Superbowl of Hollywood Awards Season, to see who gets robbed this time around!
Round Five connection tripped up everyone except for I Lost My Virginity At... who got the connection!
Not "a bunch of fun things," or "wastefulness" but all types of parlors!
I Lost My Virginity At... then stayed in a close second with the handout round, matching the former capitals to their countries -- I said y'all were expected to do well bc of your international team members, with two Aussies and one visiting very photogenic New Zealander 🙂
Mark Dellham Sux though roared on ahead with the lead through a successful double down even as they conjectured two guesses and then we entered Round 7, which was yet again Oscars-themed. Naming Best Pic nominees from 2019!
Our GOAL Academy member got five outta eight though he said all of this year's nominees were the ones fresher in his mind. Plus he gets to go to the Oscars so he can enjoy that as the grandest prize of all!
I Lost My Virginity At... doubled down but left off one movie nominee, forgetting The Favourite and instead putting Dunkirk. And Mark Dellham Sux had yet another successful double down! "Started from the bottom, now we're here" was the theme of their rise tonight -- and maybe the opposite for I Lost My Virginity At... but Nathan said he loves trivia so much he even designed some trivia q's and hosted a game of his own at work!
I'll see y'all next week for G(O)AL-entine's! Okay that's supposed to be Galentine's cuz I'll be your gal hosting trivia at GOAL.
