QUIZ RECAP

Another amazing night at Idle Hour in the bag. If you decided to stay home this Tuesday, you made a wild mistake. The drinks were flying and appetizers were sizzling as 20 teams arrived to duke it out, trivia style. We had seven rounds to sort out our differences, and these folks came to play. 

In the early rounds, It's Quizness Time set themselves apart with some careful double downs. They weren't alone. All Too Unwell and Team Turpentine saw the prize at the end of the tunnel and drove hard for victory. Yet there could only be one, and so the games continued. 

During Round 4, some eager beavers saw their dreams shatter as they leapt at answers that, sadly, just didn't connect with the actual answer. Might Leave Early were tempted to live up to their name, but they managed to hold on a little longer (they had a baby at home and a babysitter ready to snatch some overtime). 

Our drinking round was epic, paying homage to National Butter Day. Teams had to guess neither the weight nor height of the world's largest butter sculpture, but rather...the calorie count! All Too Unwell came the closest and won the free drinks!

As we sprinted toward the finish, the leaderboard become a game of musical chairs. By Round 7, almost ten teams were within spitting distance of one another! It all came down to Space Jam knowledge. 

In the end, Marvin the Martian sent teams packing (he was the ref, not on the Tune Squad), and suddenly we had a real nailbiter. One team approached this QM, sadly leaving early, and wanted to know if they had even scored well. After examining their answers, we told them they might want to stick around. 

At the buzzer, we saw Quizness Time snatch the top spot, with Gonzo's Hot Chicken Wife and Snark Squad rounding out the leader board.

QUIZ RECAP

If you were anywhere else than Idle Hour this Tuesday night, you missed out on one of the greatest trivia shows in history. 

18 teams jumped headfirst into the murkey, prize-laden waters of King Trivia, hoping to snag a sweet prize in our first show since Daylight Savings. You'd think energy would be low with so many people confronting the time change, but this was anything but a lethargic show. 

We had TWO dogs...'nuff said. 

Returning champs met with newbie passersby to form a gridiron of epic proportions. Just a single round in and we had an eight-way tie of double trouble teams. And then two rivals decided to leap away from the competition. 

Quiz Kid Donnie Smith and Sidehug Improv brought large teams to bear, and they were playing for keeps. Each round, these two well-oiled machines cranked out top-notch trivia knowledge.  They were so on the money, this QM had to do some sneaky walk bys to ensure there was no funny business. As it turns out, these were just some smart cookies. 

By the time we reached the Drinking Round, it seemed like our top two spots were already locked in. 

For the free drinks, we invited the teams to show off a photo from their phone of a celebrity. The winner (chosen by Idle Hour's own Lila) was Kingbeez and a picture of Always Sunny's Glen Howerton! Those drinks kept the team happy...and started a seismic shift in the game. 

By the end of Round 5, we had a dedicated leader with Quiz Kid. But those doubles slowed down, and now the lower ranking teams clawed their way back toward the top. By the time we reached Round seven, the top ten were within spitting distance of the grand prize. 

Our List Round proved the ultimate challenge, with only 9 questions separating the winners and...not winners. Sidehug earned a solid third place, with Quiz Kid only one point ahead. But it was a hail mary double down by Raystar Woyco that jumped them all the way into first place!

Mark your calendars. November 2nd is going down as one of the biggest, boldest shows Idle Hour has ever seen! 15 teams from all across the country (or possibly just two states) joined under the awnings of the outdoor dining area for what can only be described as an epic poem come to life. That's right, it was time for King Trivia!

We saw returning champions, eager veterans, and a huge roster of newbies join the fray to fight for a spot at the top of the board. It was time to test their trivia mettle, so we settled in for Round Number 1. 

Only minutes into the show and we had a massive 8-way tie at the top with double downs flying! But by Round 2, Quiz Kid Donnie Smith leapt far ahead of the competition and took the top spot. They seemed almost uncatchable round after round, and their victory was almost assured.

But then, of course, came the drinking round. Since we'd recently celebrated Halloween, we invited the teams to show off pictures of their costumes and be judged by the helpful servers of Idle Hour. Our winner, Play Fleetwood Mac, showed up with a homemade, award-winning Zuko suit! Of course we love Zuko more than we fear you, so they had to take the W and the free drinks!

Round 5 landed with a fury, and suddenly our top spot became anyone's game. The top ten teams were each within striking distance, whether Algorithm and Blues or Agents of the Zeitgeist. 

Still, one team had a card yet to be played.

During Round 6, it seemed that few teams knew their monarchy history (or had at least binged The Crown). That is, except for C&K. With a sudden double down, they were in the lead by mere points. It was a coup!

Round 7 was a little controversial (The Nintendo Switch is technically a portable system, though Nintendo Co. does refer to it as a console), but the final score was settled without any issue. Quiz Kid took the third spot, followed by Zeitgeist, with a come-from-behind victory for out of towners C&K!
