- PUB QUIZ—Tuesdays @ 8:00pm
The Seattle Kraken dominated on the ice while our trivia teams dominated at Marco Polo!
We had a great showing tonight, and the vibe was incredibly positive. I’m sure the fact that the Kraken were winning helped, but shockingly, everyone still had their head in the game!
My favorite answer of the night came from Team That’s Kraken Hawky Baby who answered to the question, “After John Jay and John Rutledge, who was the third Supreme Court Chief Justice in U.S. history?” - JUDGE JUDY
All but one team found the connection this evening which was fantastic! The find the connection round is always my favorite. Quite a few folks missed the Kurt Russell movie “The Thing” but there was a collective groan when I announced it. How could you forget The Thing?! I had nightmares for months as a kid from that one.
The Vice President round was a tough one for our teams tonight, you could say a vice grip on our teams. 😉
I was told the fruit detail in the final round was misleading… my response? Well a tomato *is* a fruit, and ya shoulda had a V8!
All in all, it was a lovely night and we can’t wait for next week!

Inspired by our Film Noir round, I’ve written tonight’s recap in the style of a film noir -
The noble patrons of Marco Polo braved the enduring chill of Seattle springtime to join us for another riveting evening of trivia.
Team Scratch and Sniff sat huddled in the corner. They prepared themselves for the ensuing contest, giving Team MissFits a sideways look like an undercover cop in a comic book…
Team MissFits sat with elegance and grace, unfazed by the advantage S&S had in numbers. The proverbial haze of non-existent cigarette smoke rose around them as they commanded the space at their usual table.
Team Chexxx Like Checks dipped their toe into the trivia water this evening, going three rounds with us before retiring to their cocktails and conversation.
To no one’s immediate knowledge, though, a new team on the block, Team CreativeNameHere slithered into the game. Unassuming at first, they quickly took the lead by going double or nothing twice within the first 4 rounds *and* getting our Guess Who question on the first clue.
The Guess Who question was dripping in irony, as we sat at an establishment named after the very answer our teams were searching for - Marco Polo!
A rivalry that seemed good-natured on the surface, but was insidious at heart, picked up between S&S and CreativeName. All 7 members of S&S were up against the mere 2 at CreativeName. But CreativeName was still mopping the floor with them.
THE DRAMA!
THAT BEING SAID - the mood in the room quickly changed when the math whiz at Team S&S figured out the Fibonacci Sequence connection in Round 5 and propelled them back into the lead. CreativeName tried for Double or Nothing on Round 6, but fell behind by three points.
In the end, Scratch and Sniff took top prize, but I was proud of the charisma and chutzpah the other teams showed this evening. As the patrons turned into shadows under the street lamps, returning to their vehicles for the long ride home under city lights, we all silently agreed one thing:
Same time, same place, next week.

If I could describe tonight as a tarot card, it would be the Ace of Wands… so incredibly lively, full of energy, with so much momentum!
Not sure if it is the sun setting later or getting some sunshine here in rainy Seattle, but everyone was bursting at the seams with energy for tonight’s game!
Every team turned in their answers long before the allotted time, choosing to gamble with their Double or Nothings left and right and even guessing mega-early during Round 4. While it didn’t always pay off in points, we were having such a lively time!
First timers Team Los Tres Lagomorphs (as I learned tonight, a Lagomorph is basically a cute bunny), came out the gate strong, getting a double or nothing hit on the first round. They also figured out the connection within the first two questions which helped them nail Round 5. They may have wildly mis-guessed on Round 4, but they certainly made up for it!
Team MissFits, who are usually very meticulous in their guesses, were going big or going home tonight. I think they went Double or Nothing on most every round. They were giggling and laughing about it too.
Everyone caught on to the Red Hot Chili Peppers connection early, and when I read out the answers, we all came together for a rendition of the chorus to “The Zephyr Song”.
Lots of camaraderie all around this evening, and I was here for it!!
