Killarney's witnessed the return of more than one prodigal son last night as
we were revisited by those purveyor's of questionable humor, Daddy Says I Love
You With His Belt; And, the PHD's, who brought along their small army of brains
and managed a second place win!
Newbies, the Keystoner's were worried about their name sounding like a chronic
marijuana user label, but if they had just gone with the Keystones they'd have
sounded like a bunch of squares! Meanwhile, Dinosaurs Have Balls ended their
run early, noting to self that while unable to prove their titular paleontological
theory, they did prove that dinos had smaller brains. (They said it, I didn't!)
On the plus side, they did score two points in the first round, giving their
moniker some sort of plausibility.
Funniest wrong answers of the evening go to those who just couldn't identify Megyn
Kelly. Kelly Someone got closer than Herb Schlompadick, though. The Hitchcock
questions in Round Three were great, hopefully inspiring some millennials to
connect with cinematic classics! The Guess Who Round 10 Point clue was too
easy, though. Half the teams nailed Robert Redford in one, but the scoring kept
it very competitive. Hockey turned out to be most teams' Waterloo. Even the
NHL experts over compensated with a failed Double-or-Nothing, getting one wrong.
Oww! But Sandra Bullock Block Busters brought everything full circle, handing
third place to Wossamatta-U and giving the Poonswagglers a well deserved First!
That's the news. I'll love you til Tuesday. Bye for now!
Some old friends we haven't seen in a while and a newbie team showed up at
Killarney's last night. UBS (aka-the Un Biological Sisters club) along with
some of their hubbies dropped by as well as the family team the Mighty
Mellons! The newbie team, three gals who styled themselves The Tits,
completed a set-up for some breast jokes that went on throughout the evening.
Quiz Master Lou had a difficult time between "sets" talking about "points" and
which team was "out in front". It sent him into titters. (Thank G-d there
were no Russ Meyer questions!)
It was quite a horse race, with the lead flitting about the room and lighting
on different tables like a butterfly. House faves IFFY! won first place with
a dramatic Double-or-Nothing in the last round, coming out of nowhere. The
Mighty Mellons scored second and the Allen Fairview Chamber Friends took third.
A shout out to Seal Team 3, who got sidled out of the winner's circle at the
last moment into fourth position with the old school, Wossamatta-U grabbing
fifth. Happy to see the League of Extraordinary Guessers back while resident
champs Tequila Mockingbird edged themselves out of the top scores with a poorly
judged Double-or-Nothing in the final round. Blood, Bath & Beyond and the
Poonswagglers...? It would never be the same without you!
That's all the news that fits. Until next time...
Mardi Gras fever hit the King Trivia Pub Quiz crowd at Killarney's as many
patrons, players and non-players alike showed up in spirit wearing beads and
hats in support of our neighboring state's New Orleans based celebration. So
too, did our KT quiz honor that particular institution with its own Picture
Round with some particularly tough NOLA themed TV and movie shots. Great
stuff! One of our regular teams, the Poonswagglers, temporarily changed
their name in similar fashion to pay homage to Fat Tuesday by christening
themselves, Krewe de Swaggelee' de la Poon for the evening.
Four newbies joined in the fun for last night's game. Two Bags bagged it
early, though they confessed to having a good time. The Drivers drove themselves
home after a few rounds. Meow Mix mixed it up with the best of them and
funnily enough, their chosen team name happened to be the answer to the first
question of the evening! How's that for Kat-met? And Kat-sandra like in
prophecy, they could not avoid a cat-tastrophe! (Somebody stop me!) Newbie
team number four, the Couch Potatoes, hashed themselves into a third place
win! Congratulations!
Tequila Mockingbird did their usual resident champ routine while Pickles on a
Plate served up for second place. All in all, a pretty good quiz set down by
our quiz overlords with diverse question sets ranging from cell phone branding
to Lord of the Rings lore. Happy fasting everyone!
