Welcome back to team Age & Treachery, who brought their posse with them and managed to pull off
a first place win! And only on their second time playing King Trivia Pub Quiz! I'll Google It!
walked away with a well deserved second place win while Tequila Mockingbirds took third.
And a hearty welcome to the Cheese Heads, on vacation from Wisconsin. I didn't get a chance to
ask this couple what they thought of our Texas heat wave, but they seemed happy enough. Why
not? When you come from the land of cheese, beer and sausages, what more could you want?
Interestingly enough, the evening's best part came after the quiz had ended and I got caught up
in an intense conversation about conspiracy theories with the Poonswagglers. We covered briefly
Moon Landing Hoax, 911 and the Vegas Shooting with a tip of the hat to the JFK Assassinantion.
That got Quizmaster Lou to thinking... Why not have a conspiracy themed event? Or at least
some conspiracy themed questions? Just a thought.
This week's Irish observation comes from an Englishman, G.K. Chesterton...
"The great Gaels of Ireland are the men that G-d made mad,
For all their wars are merry, and all their songs are sad."
Have a great week everybody!
Wonder of wonders! Glory of glories and Hallelujah! It's been a long time coming and well
deserved, for team IFFY! (with the Blood, Bath & Beyond alliance) Not only did they crack the
winner's circle, but they actually took first place! These plucky old timers are, in Quizmaster
Lou's estimation, the most faithful, the most determined and the best tempered players of all
the teams he has encountered. There are two things about IFFY that impress me greatly. First,
they stay to the bitter end no matter what their chances of winning are. This Quizmaster has
noticed some teams pack it in early when they see they cannot possibly win. But not IFFY! They
always sign on for the duration. And second, and most important, they are always happy. No
matter how badly they may score, they have fun just the same as if they were winning. You see,
it doesn't matter to them who wins, just the sheer nature of the experience gives them joy.
Well, IFFY... Congratulations!
It was a pretty exciting match as well, with the first place rank switching constantly between
teams. IFFY! actually drove it home from third place to first with a stunning Double-or-
Nothing in Round 7, dusting the competition! Wossamatta-U snagged second while the resident
champs, Tequila Mockingbirds, flew in for third.
Welcome to newbies the Escobar's, Age & Treachery and the PHD's, who came in force to challenge
the Allen Fairview Chamber Friends, whose team was only represented by one daunting couple this
evening. And a special mention to I'll Google It!, who played not wisely (too many Double-or-
Nothiong's), but did play well. Also, a shout out to our King Trivia overlords, who prepared
a pretty good quiz this week. My teams love tough questions!
This week's Irish proverb: "Questioning is the door of knowledge..."
Have a great week, everybody!
The teams at Kilarney's are getting bigger! This quizmaster has always agreed that the larger
the brain trust, the greater the pool of information. The side effects of this policy are
long tables of groups of folks, eating, drinking and putting their heads together to ponder
the puzzle of the King Trivia Pub Quiz. Due to Kilarney's layout, I cannot help but look down
upon this scene and be reminded of the myriad number of viking movies that entertained me in
the past. Those displays of viking lodge halls, filled with boisterous freebooters, all
cavorting, singing, clashing their enormous drinking horns together, sloshing foamy suds
everywhere... Ahhh. Brings back fond memories! (Of course, there's no brawls, axe throwing or
flagrant wenching going on. Well, a little wenching at the bar, maybe...) You know, the
vikings were kind of like the outlaw biker gangs of ancient times. Wherever they pillaged and
plundered, they always seemed to enjoy themselves. At least in the movies of old. Quizmaster
Lou is thinking there's so much viking lore and culture out there, maybe a viking themed quiz
would make a good offering? Just a thought...
Welcome to newbie team Rife with Rifes, who made a valiant showing with a second place win!
Wossamotto-U fought their way up to second, only to get displaced to third in Round 7 while
resident champs Tequila Mocking birds winged to victory yet once again! Those clever raptors
did it again, with an unprecedented 80 point score!
Tonight's parting Irish shot:
May the roof above you never fall in, and
those gathered beneath it never fall out!
Have a great week!
