Dateline: August 27, 2019 - Killarney's at Fairview Center - Fairview, TX.
King Trivia Pub Quiz was in demand last night as twelve teams comingled to
compete comparatively in compact, contained cliques. On the team front, the
cleverly cognomen-ed conglomeration known as Not So Sexually Suggestive returned
for more fun, but didn't fair as well as last time. The questions just didn't
land in their wheelhouse so to speak. No matter. We like them anyway and hope
they will return. Even though they sat in Tequila Mockingbird's usual spot...
The team formerly known as Counter Culture have re-booted themselves (in Latin
no less!) as Ora et Labora et Repulsa, which loosely translated means either
"I hate religion and work" or something very naughty. Don't know. Can't say.
The deadly alliance of Blood, Bath & Beyond/Ship It! took first place while the
afore mentioned Tequila Mocking boids got second. Michael, the sole survivor of
the Dallas Boolers Club (he's the one that didn't go off to university to get
brain washed!) put together a flying platoon of barstool warmers and won third
We got another great question set as well. The toughest round was our #2 Picture
Round - Identify these fictional cows. Sorry guys. Texans don't name cows. We
eats 'em. Number six, one Chief Bogo from Zootopia got the best wrong answers:
Sgt. Ox (said 2 teams!)
Capt. Ox (he got a promotion)
Oh well. It was utterly disastrous. It behooves us to mooove on...
That's all the news that fits! Quiz Master Lou signing off!
Last night's King Trivia Pub Quiz was too easy! Quiz Master Lou did his best to
select tougher, alternate questions where he could, but those Double-or-Nothing's
just kept coming! On the plus side, the pop culture quotient was brought down to
a manageable proportion. The crowd at Killarney's was somewhat sedate. Whether
that had to do with the heat wave we've been having or that drowsy period at
summer's end before school begins is a toss up.
Welcome to newbie's Jersey Girls + Lil Bro and Not So Sexually Suggestive, who
finished fifth and seventh respectively. Not bad for first timers! Fare well
to the Dallas Boolers Club for a while as those boys head off to college. It is
hoped that there, they will learn to become men. Or women. Or transgender.
What ever they become, it is hoped they won't whine about losing a Double-or-
Nothing because they put down Mickey Mouse Characters instead of Disney characters
for the Round Five 'connection'. Oh the pain.
Tequila Mockingbird killed it with a 71 point first place win while the old school,
Wossa Matta-U, took a handy second. Ship It!/Blood, Bath & Beyond took third
place honors as they have been consistently doing for some time now. They seem
to be very comfortable in the winner's circle, even though they only sit in the
captain's chair occasionally.
Hats off to John from Beer Logic, who uncharacteristically showed up at this
venue and played solo. He provided the evening's best style points variation
on a theme answers by providing the following Matt Damon film titles. Enjoy!
Bourne: The Animated Series
Son of Bourne
Bourne Goes to College
Bourne Bjorn Borg
Bingo Bango Bongo Bourne
Bourne in the USA
That was some inspiration, John. I guess you got Bourne again on that round, eh?
Chirpy crowd can't complain at Killarney's reads our dateline for Tuesday, August
13th as another successful King Trivia Pub Quiz crowns victorious! Welcome to
our newbie teams, Crimson and Hernandi. Although they finished last, the last
man standing in team Crimson finished well by getting the most right answers in
the last round challenge by naming correctly five of the seven strong acids in
chemistry, more than any other team! I guess he did a lot of acid?
Our other newbie, the Hernandi (their collective name, individually they are known
as Hernandez), distinguished themselves by finishing with a second place win, and
this only after maintaining a three round first place position! Congratulations
Hernandi! And welcome to the KTPQ! We hope you return! Pickles on a Plate
astounded with three, count 'em, three successful Double-or-Nothing's which
strategically shot them through the spheres to rocket into a first place win!
The most dangerous alliance of Blood, Bath & Beyond and Ship It! have been very
consistent lately with placing themselves in the winner's circle, last night
with a third place spot.
In our mirth department, some of the funniest answers are the wrongest (is that a
word?) answers. In the above mentioned 7 Strong Acids challenge, the style
points go to:
Syd Barret's LSD
Face Hugger Blood
The second part to our Round Seven challenge was naming the three successive
leaders of North Korea. For that, wedged in between the Kim's, we got Sun-a
Young Moon and Dennis Rodman!
Thanks for playing and for reading! See ya!
