Twas the last Tuesday before Christmas, and all through the hub,
Every person was drinking, after all it's a pub!
The stage lights were on, the mic warmed with care,
In hopes that King Trivia would soon be there;
The patrons were nestled in teams with their booze,
In hopes of winning, no one wants to loose;
Mamma in her hoodie and I with my crew,
Had just settled down with a local custom brew.
When up near the stage there arose such a clatter,
We rose from our barstools to see what was the matter!
When what do my alcohol blurry eyes view?
With clipboard and prize cards, it was Quiz Master Lou!
The little old ham with his cornball wit,
Would soon have us all in a quiz guessing fit.
With a jocular intro, he called us by name,
Laid down the questions and the rules of the game.
"We got General Knowledge and picture round heaven,
We got the usual format in rounds five, six and seven!"
He spoke out a warning before setting to work,
About Double-or-Nothing and betting like a jerk.
Then the quiz started and all was alright,
The questions were varied, amusing and tight.
At the end of the tunnel we eventually saw light,
Quiz Master Lou shouted, "Merry Christmas to all, and to all, a good night!"
With apologies to Clement Clarke Moore...
Happy Holidays, everybody!
Kilarney's put on a good quiz last night as six regular teams and one newbie put their
pedal to the metal for top prizes. It was a great competition too, with the lead
changing positions several times and a tie breaker for first place!
The old school, Wossamata-U, graduated with top honors while Tequila Mockingbird perched
on second. The IFFY!/Blood, Bath & Beyond alliance divied up third. Great questions
from our KT quiz writers! They're getting pretty good at setting five easy answers and
one that looks easy but isn't. Poor Seal Team 3 fell for the Double-or-Nothing gambit
three times too many last night, otherwise they might have finished near the top.
Mirthful Moments:
Quiz Master Lou malapropped "Fashion" with "Fascist", thus re-purposing the Picture
Round!
While BNSF does stand for Burlington Northern Santa Fe, the guessers got their licks in
with Baltimore Norfolk Suffolk Freight, Betty's National Steel Freight and my personal
fave, Big Nasty Steel Freight.
Best Round Five connection wrong guesses:
All French Words
Motley Crue Songs
Race Horses
No Women
Have a great week, all!

Is it a sign of the impending holidays or just a fluke? Whichever way one wishes to
assess it, the turnout was small at Kilarney's last night. Nevertheless, five teams
stalwartly staged a studious stand, stabbing strenuously at slippery scores!
Alliteration aside (see what I did there?), rookie faction Seal Team 3 deserves an
honorable mention for showing consistent presence and getting closer every week to a
placing score. I'm guessing they're going to make it into the winner's circle soon.
The Award for Most Esoteric Question of the evening goes to Round Three, Q3, In which
teams were supposed to guess the obscure title of an obscure film by even more obscure
filmmaker Jim Jarmusch titled Coffee and Cigarettes. You know, I remember when Jarmusch
came onto the scene back in the eighties with Stranger Than Paradise. 89 minutes of
B&W New York Film School, experimental cinema veritie road picture slice-of-life boredom
that injected aggressive somnolence into storytelling with the force of a pressure washer.
No wonder no team opted for a Double-or-Nothing or that Jarmusch went onto documentaries
about musical artists. (Just kidding. Keep on truckin', Jim!)
Tequila Mockingbird led way out in front with an impressive twenty-two point lead over a
distant second place (by IFFY!), but managed to smooth out the entire pub by sharing their
delicious chocolate birthday cake (Happy BD, Christian!) with everybody. Poonswagglers
got third and Quiz Master Lou got fat, feasting on cake, chicken wings and pub fries.
That's the holidays for you.
Until next week, friends!
