It's great to be back at Pour Tap House for an awesome night of trivia and tacos! I missed my devoted quizzers, and was so happy to see my regulars show up. Just as fun was seeing new faces and watching them excel throughout the evening. Mary and Matt held it down behind the bar, keeping everyone happy and hydrated all night. La Baja was outside with the yummy food, including that delicious, delicious stew/quesadilla combo (**swoon**).

I absolutely loved tonight's question rounds because they all lent themselves to great song picks that helped quizzers enjoy the theme or gave them subtle hints. However, I will say that I need to increase my music database of songs with "salt" in the title so that I never have to play the Yin Yang Twins' "Salt Shaker" ever again in my life ever. We all have life choices we regret, and downloading that song years ago is absolutely one of mine. I was really proud of the teams that picked up on the theme of Round 5 based on my song choices, even though there was some stumbling over the other answers that round. Best answer of the night, hands down, by far, was DCH's "founder" answer to the question "What term is the name of a weapon, diving move, and type of fish?" I'd absolutely love to see someone perform The Flounder at the Olympics, which I imagine is some version of an epic belly flop.

Great job Too Legit for your first place victory as a team of two! In a surprising twist, we had a tie breaker round to decide between second and third place. Azucar the Fierce rocked it, getting eerily close to the number of yards ran by Dan Moreno during his career. When I asked them how they came to the answer after the game was over, I quickly became confused by the math involved. So, it was a well deserved victory. First and Last in Gym Class wasn't too far off with their guess, and they took home the third place spot.

See you all next week for more tacos and trivia!!

This week's blizzard kept the less bold away (and resulted in a last-minute substitute Quizmaster), but a crowd of diehards showed up at Pour this week, with the contest being decided by a single point.

Drinkers With A Trivia Problem, Jeff Goldblum Is My Dad and Sith Happens each scored 5 (out of 6) in Round 1; First & Last In Gym Class scored 4 while Team E went for the double right our of the gate...and took a zero.  Team E got 2 right in the 2nd round but then thought better of it and left early; Goldblum were high scorers with 7 in the 2nd round, moving into a tie for first with Gym Class (6) and Sith Happens (5). Drinkers With A Trivia Problem successfully converted a double-or-nothing in Round 3, catapulting themselves into a lead they would never completely relinquish...though things got a bit dicey at the end.  They were also the only team to correctly answer the Guess Who name, garnering 2 points (the difference in their eventual win); Gym Class took a stab with David Spade and lost a point.

Sith Happens scored 9 & 10 in Rounds 5 & 6 respectively, putting some space between themselves and Gym Class; Drinkers With A Trivia Problem scored 8 & 9 in those rounds and appeared home and dry until Goldblum hit a double for 20 points in Round 6, bringing them even with Trivia Problem. The two questions in the final round resulted in teams who knew all or most answers to one question, and few to none to the other.  Goldblum, Sith and Gym Class all scored 5 in Round 7; Drinkers With A Trivia Problem got 6 right and won the night, for the first time ever according to them.  Well played, you two!

Your regularly scheduled Quizmaster will return next week, see you all down the road!

A 2nd consecutive week with a fill-in Quizmaster saw a full house and an excellent game at Pour. Several last-minute players made for a 7-team race.

Both NKOTB and Names Are For Tomstones hit a double out of the gate, setting the tone for the night.  Tacos Are Life! hit a double in Round 2, making those three teams the main competitors for the rest of the game.  Jedi Junkies were high scorers in Round 3, and they shared that honor with NKOTB in Round 4.  Tombstones took a -1 in Round 4 (Guess Who), seemingly dropping them out of the race....until they scored a double (and 20 points) in Round 5 to bring them back within 5 points of the lead.  Tombstones were again high scorers in Round 6 with 8, narrowing the gap to a single point, but they could get no closer as all 5 teams that stuck it out to the end went for the double in the final round, with 4 (including the leaders) converting.

In the end, NKOTB nosed out Tombstones to win by a point, with Tacos finishing a strong 3rd.  Thanks for a fun evening, all!
