Thanks to all who came out tonight for our first quiz of the month. Yup, it's August, so I'll make a quick shoutout to all the Leos we have in our trivia universe. Apparently we have some birthdays coming up for many of our regular players. Huzzah!
I know that I usually encourage my player to watch more movies, but tonight's quiz featured more academic pursuits. I'd like to introduce our players to one of the most famous leaders of all time, Queen Elizabeth I. You know, the daughter of Henry VIII who has served as Oscar bait for decades, helping at least 2 women earn a statue? The woman who faced down the world's leading superpower in 1588? Ohk, and did I mention that she and Shakespeare were pals?
Shout out to our winners for tonight, Team Lopez, who performed a miraculous finish by doubling their LAST THREE ROUNDS to take tonight's title. We'll see you all back next week at 7pm for more tacos and trivia.
Tonight was a lot of fun for everyone. Teams were feeling especially frisky, with every team scoring at least one perfect round and 5 teams doubling up at least once. It all came down to Big Willie Style and the NFL's biggest losers, at least for 2019.
Nothing beats a round where I get to play some DJ Jazzy Jeff & Fresh Prince. And, when in doubt, the usual suspects (Bengals, Lions, Jaguars, Browns, etc.) are safe bets when it comes to top picks in any draft.
We'll see you next week at 7pm as we celebrate August [insert reason here].
Quizzes these days are starting to get a vibe of a high school reunion. People you used to know that you haven't seen for a while and you're almost able to pick up right where you left off. It's so nice to see teams jump back into the fray of quizzing after such a long and unwelcome hiatus.
We also had a great time with quizzing and our Rocky Mountain Oyster crew learned the truth regarding the travesty that is known as Manhattan Clam Chowder. Our crew was surprisingly good at devilish TV & Movie characters and easily cracked the connection in round 5. Confidently named America's hottest professional sports hotbeds.
When it comes to Ridley Scott, though, there was a great deal of grumbling. It's not like Ridley Scott is a name that quickly rolls off the tongue when naming great directors. But, at the end of the day, his track record is pretty darn good. Blade Runner, Alien, Gladiator, Black Hawk Down...all timeless classics. Want some fun/feelgood type flicks? Check out Thelma & Louise, Matchstick Men, The Martian or even Legend. Got a couple hours to kill and don't mind wasting them watching a movie? Hannibal, Kingdom of Heaven, Body of Lies, Robin Hood, A Good Year, Alien: Covenant, GI Jane are all good choices. Look at American Gangster or All The Money In The World for some Oscar bait.
Great job overall. Lots of aggressive plays tonight. Most didn't pay off, but it's nice to know that you all have so much self confidence.
