QUIZ RECAP

Yay for a swarm of first time quizzers at Pour Tap House! Tons of talent, tons of hilarious answers, and, of course, tons of people discovering they have a better mastery of random facts than they previously thought. We had La Patrona serving up yummy tacos and burritos outside. Mike flew solo behind the bar and made sure everyone stayed well hydrated and happy.

As usual, there was something for everyone during this quiz. I was quite impressed with how much all teams knew about children's books based on certain illustrations in Round 2. Those older illustrations have an element of creepy to them, I don't care what anyone says. No one was super spooked though, and all teams got 6 or more correct answers. I was also super impressed with people's high school Spanish skills, as lots of teams knocked it out of the park in Round 6. How did every team know the Spanish word for radish? Unsolved mystery right there, as the radish is possibly the most underrated and under-used vegetable of all time. Finally, props to the teams who correctly guessed all the names of the Kardashian-West children. Can't wait for the inevitable reality show about Psalm Kardashian-West in a few years.

Midas Whales took home that number one spot, with Splitting Arrows coming in right behind them in second place. Thanks to the team that celebrated their anniversary with us! Hopefully you make this an anniversary tradition - nothing more fun than that. First in Gym Class was missing their clutch player, which may explain why they didn't fare so well (sorry guys!).

QUIZ RECAP

It was SO GREAT to be back for trivia at Pour Tap House after an extra long hiatus! I missed my weekly quizzers and, if I'm being totally honest, the only time of the week during which I wear something other than yoga pants. La Baja was there serving up that irresistible quesadilla-grilled-cheese combo of goodness, as well as other tasty items. I also got to see Matt and Mary again and they served up the smiles and suds throughout the evening as worked our way through a truly wonderful night of random facts.

True to form, Midas Whales pulled off the win by strategically doubling up early on in Round 1. Battling it out for second place were First and Last in Gym Class and FTRD (which I was finally informed stands for "Free Tacos R Delicious"), with First and Last in Gym Class grabbing the second place title. Brewsual Suspects had a strong showing as well.

My favorite part of the quiz was Round 6, when quizzers had to guess what year certain celebrity heartthrobs were nominated as People's Sexiest Man Alive. First of all, why doesn't this award go to Idris Elba every single year? I probably need to write a letter to People. But second, reviewing this part of the quiz resulted in my husband and me arguing over the relative attractiveness of Mel Gibson versus, well, everyone else on the list. My husband insists that Mel is overall the most attractive. I don't think his eyes are working properly. These discussions are what make marriages work, I'm told.

QUIZ RECAP

So....after a 9-month COVID hiatus, your intrepid Quizmaster did subbed at Pour Tap House...and found a whole new world. The new contactless scoring system worked very well, much to my amazement. We started with 6 teams and ended the night with just two but it was a fun evening for all (if I may say so myself!)

Tchoupitoulas hit on a double-or-nothing right out of the gate to jump into the lead, but they were passed by Beer Pressure, whose double put them in first place with 22 points after 2 rounds. Wicked & Wylee could never recover from the -1 tallied in the Guess What round (Bugs Bunny?!?), While a missed double in Round 5 doomed Cheez and Crack Whores; Baby Yoda dropped out after 4 rounds as their little one had to hit the hay. Though they were in the middle of the pack most of the night, First and Last in Gym Class stuck it out to the end...and ended up with 2nd place honors because 4 other teams had peeled off! Meanwhile Beer Pressure, lurking below the leaders through the middle rounds, hit a spectacular 20-point double in the handout round (6) to vault into first and coast to victory.

It was SO MUCH FUN to be back in the saddle, thanks to all who played (and to the fabulous Mary behind the bar!). See you next time!
