About Bar Charlie

Bar Charlie landed in the North Lake Union neighborhood of Seattle in December 2016. Bar Charlie aims to be a comfortable neighborhood bar featuring beers, food and spirits crafted in the greater Pacific Northwest.

Bar Charlie's interior concept is inspired by the history of the De Havilland Beaver Seaplane and is a mix of actual seaplane parts, wood, concrete and metal.  The walls have photography and art detailing the history of Seaplanes on Lake Union.

Bar Charlie was created by Christian Thomason with mentoring and construction assistance from Chris Navarra.

Bar Charlie evolved out of the desire to do something more than tackle an endless mountain of bureaucratic paperwork.  It’s intended to be a neighborhood gathering spot, a place to unwind with good drinks and food.

It was certainly great to be back hosting trivia after a week off last week!

We started the evening with three teams, and then one of them left after a few rounds, so it was a tough competition between two great teams (and the peanut gallery, sitting at the bar, but decidedly not actively playing).

It was close through the first couple of rounds, although this might have been one of the tougher Picture Rounds I've seen. Those Cows were not so easily identified as one might think.

In round 3, the Theme was either difficult to remember or difficult to understand with my accent... Don't Drake and Drive - people thought I was saying Drink and Drive, which would make more sense grammatically, but that "Drake" wording was important to get a couple of the answers. For example, the answer to question 2 was Sir Francis Drake (not Captain Morgan, lol).

Round 4 really started to pull Riff Raff into the lead with the Guess Who round, for which I did need some public assistance with the German pronunciation of "Der Erstaunliche Klegrige Junge." Luckily we had a pro (who had already turned in their answer) to look over my shoulder and properly say the phrase into the mic for the rest of the crowd.

Rounds 5 & 6 kept our two remaining teams pretty close in scores, so it was still anyone's game going into the final round. Here's where it all boils down to whether or not to check that Double-or-Nothing box. Matt and Pat at the Chiro(practor) went for it, unfortunately missing the mark by just one answer; whereas Riff Raff got all the answers right, but didn't Double down.

In the end it was Riff Raff who came out ahead, and Matt & Pat at the Chiro(practor) still had fun for Taylor's BIRTHDAY!!

Thanks so much for coming out! We had a ton of fun!

I'll see you all next Tuesday!

The regulars held down the fort in the absence of their beloved regular Quizmaster, Val.

Three fun and funny teams kept their eye on first place throughout the night. In Round 2, our competitors proved that they were "Birds of a Feather," with each and every team earned double the points by successfully identifying types of birds (including the rare, near-extinct Larry).

Our amateur ornithologists kept the bird love alive in Round 4, with every team earning eight points for correctly identifying our "Guess Who" as Raven-Symone. That's so Raven.

At the end of the day, consistency was key for winning team The Worst We Can Do is 3rd. They played it safe and steady, escaping some of the heartbreaking double-or-nothing near-misses that plagued second and third place finishers Sleeping Booty and Quizzards of Oz.

We wrapped up the night with a prize for every team, some great food and drink, and a rousing video rendition of "Happy Birthday" for Quizmaster Val. Not a bad way to spend an evening!

1 The Worst We Can Do is 3rd 66 1 1.000
2 17705 Sleeping Booty 48 0 0.000

It was another wonderful evening of trivia at Bar Charlie. Six teams stuck it out in a battle of brains. The biggest milestones happened in rounds three and five.

Round 3 consisted of Haikus where the teams had to decipher which Best Picture Oscar winning movie the poems referred to. On these, it seemed like teams either knew all or most of them or almost none, so it was a big round for the points-divide!

Round 5, Find the Connection all had prime numbers in the answers, although there was a bit of a discussion about one of the teams answers to question #2.

In the end, we had Five One Oh in first place, followed by The Valcoholics in second, and And in First Place came in third. Thank you for coming out for a fun round of trivia!

See you next time!
