About Bar Charlie

Bar Charlie landed in the North Lake Union neighborhood of Seattle in December 2016. Bar Charlie aims to be a comfortable neighborhood bar featuring beers, food and spirits crafted in the greater Pacific Northwest.

Bar Charlie's interior concept is inspired by the history of the De Havilland Beaver Seaplane and is a mix of actual seaplane parts, wood, concrete and metal.  The walls have photography and art detailing the history of Seaplanes on Lake Union.

Bar Charlie was created by Christian Thomason with mentoring and construction assistance from Chris Navarra.

Bar Charlie evolved out of the desire to do something more than tackle an endless mountain of bureaucratic paperwork.  It’s intended to be a neighborhood gathering spot, a place to unwind with good drinks and food.

It was a great Tuesday night of trivia at Bar Charlie. We had eight- EIGHT TEAMS in a packed room! The first couple of rounds were in tight contention... and that's when the Double or Nothings kicked in. From then on there wasn't one round where at least two teams didn't Double or Nothing when it was in play! All this culminated in Team 5-1-0 taking a strong lead in Round 5 and ultimately taking First Place with a whopping 74 points! (Wow, high risk really DOES equal high reward!) 5-1-0's win was about the only thing that was decisive last night, because there was three-way tie for Second Place. THREE teams with 52 points! But that's not all, two of the three tied teams with the closest number had the same answer for the tie-breaking question, which meant our three-way tie was whittled down to a two-way tie forcing ANOTHER TIE-BREAKER! I don't know what kind of statistical gymnastics were involved for that to happen, but it must have been a spectacular parallel bar routine. In the end K? took the Second Place prize and (ironically) Team #2 took Third. I don't know what kind of wackiness is in store for next week, but I'm excited to find out! And next Tuesday night, you can too- join us!

Boy oh boy! Bar Charlie's 3rd week of King Trivia night did not disappoint. We rounded out the night with five teams and all were mighty! There were even a few dogs in attendance. Honestly, they should have done more to contribute to their teams - I don't think any of them got an answer right, but furry cuteness has its own value, I guess... Despite having to hold up their less productive tailed members, all five teams managed to keep it in tight contention with only four points separating them all throughout most of the evening. But in the end, Always Bring Your Chuck managed to snatch a first-place prize by only three points- congrats!

Also, special shout to Nate behind the bar, who kept the drinks a flowin' and the food a comin' all night long with grace and aplomb!

Did I think Bar Charlie's 2nd King Trivia night could complete to the first? Last week we had 7 inaugural teams, and a thrilling come-from-behind finish! I arrived hoping for at least that much competition and excitement and what happened?! Week 2 we had NINE teams in the mix! Pretty much a full house, with only a few single seats here and there. Bar Charlie is the place to be Tuesday nights at 7pm! Round one started with "Team 5-1-0" jumping out to an early lead, successfully doubling round 3, and powering to a strong 9-point lead through the first 6 rounds, making it look like a runaway victory. But wait...last week, Team 5-1-0 was overtaken at the last moment and forced to settle for 2nd prize. Would that happen again? With a 9 point lead with just one round to go? "Toad from Mario Kart" wasn't giving up, staying within 8-9 points throughout the game, sitting in 2nd place. After those two, there was a gap back to a wild race for 3rd prize, back and forth between "Puerto-Rick-O Wombat", "Dad Bods & Mom Jeans", & "Charcuterie Broads". But Dads & Moms had to cut out to another prearranged gathering, leaving just the two other teams battling for 3rd. Not far behind, potentially within reach with a final round double-down, were "Astros", "Yahoo Answers", "The Kentucky Maids" and "Team Pup n Suds" (who joined in round 2, but still made it close in the end). In the end, Puerto-Rick-O Wombat held off Charcuterie Broads for 3rd, and, unbelievably, Team 5-1-0 was snakebit for a second week in a row...having to settle for 2nd prize after a stunning come-from-behind final round perfect score double-down by Toad from Mario Kart! Final score, 58-57!! Wow! What will next week bring? Don't be late!
