About Bar Charlie

Bar Charlie landed in the North Lake Union neighborhood of Seattle in December 2016. Bar Charlie aims to be a comfortable neighborhood bar featuring beers, food and spirits crafted in the greater Pacific Northwest.

Bar Charlie's interior concept is inspired by the history of the De Havilland Beaver Seaplane and is a mix of actual seaplane parts, wood, concrete and metal.  The walls have photography and art detailing the history of Seaplanes on Lake Union.

Bar Charlie was created by Christian Thomason with mentoring and construction assistance from Chris Navarra.

Bar Charlie evolved out of the desire to do something more than tackle an endless mountain of bureaucratic paperwork.  It’s intended to be a neighborhood gathering spot, a place to unwind with good drinks and food.

What a great night! We had a lot of fun, made some new friends, and shared some knowledge. Seven teams came out to play this week, so it was a full house - let's keep this momentum going!

Round 1 started us off with some General Knowledge, including our Tuesday Facebook question (quick plug to follow King Trivia on facebook, so you can see one question ahead of time). Also, if you haven't already watched Always Be My Maybe on Netflix, you should, super cute RomCom with Ali Wong.

In Round 2, the teams had to identify the pencil topper. Favorite answer on this was "Carrot Top," which I obviously accepted as it was a picture of a carrot as a pencil topper, not Carrot Top the guy (comedian?) with the hair or whatever, but still a solid answer.

Round 3 was uneventful, and Round 4 seemed pretty easy, with five of the seven teams getting the correct answer after just one clue! But Round 5 this week was for us - thanks King Trivia! The Pi Slices and Risk it For the Biscuit really knew their Seattle trivia, getting all 10 answers correct this round. Whereas The Minor Heckups and At Least We're Not Last only thought they did, going Double-or-Nothing and getting nothing 🙁

Moving into Round 6, the matching handout, At Least We're Not Last sadly secured their spot in last place by doubling down again and falling short.

It was a race for the top and Brittney Spears brought it home with her top 10 Billboard Hot 100. Even though Ya Like Dags? went double-or-nothing in the final round, they still held enough points to put them in 3rd place! Risk it For the Biscuit was also up there, not scoring a ton of points in the final round, but had plenty already accrued to land 2nd place! And it was our largest team of the night, with plenty of brain power to come in 1st - congratulations to The Pi Slices!

Thank you everyone for coming out to play trivia with me! I love having you all there. See you again next week!

We had a new team join us this week, who I *think* will be back - Amy Wants to Be Here seemed super excited about ending up at trivia, when they didn't even know it was going to happen. It's always great to see new faces, and catch some of that enthusiasm for knowledge like this team had!

While Riff Raff and Team 5-1-0 both started out (and ended) strong, they kept their leads throughout the game. But, Where's Bob? really could have used Bob if he had been there to help them out - started out a little too confident, going Double-or-Nothing on the first two rounds, and falling short. Luckily they had that registered team number to at least get on the board!

Also great job by Pat squared + 4, who were pretty strong the whole night, but just a little shy of those top 2 teams.

We had a lot of fun with Round 3 that everyone thought would be a piece of (pan)cake, was a bit more challenging than expected. Then in Round 4, Team 5-1-0 got the Guess Who on the first clue! Round 6, the matching musicals round, Amy Wants to Be Here thought she knew her musicals and doubled down, but was off by one missed answer, costing the round. The final round was a doozy to say the least. After reading the question twice and giving the teams some time to work on it, it turned out that DeNiro's Dinero was harder to come by than one might think - every team only got 3 answers right in the final.

This left us with Riff Raff in first place, Team 5-1-0 in second, Pat squared +4 in third, followed by Where's Bob and Amy Wants to Be Here!

Thank you all for coming out to Trivia at Bar Charlie, it was a ton of fun! See you next Tuesday!

4 10130 Where's Bob 27 1 0.250
5 Amy Wants to Be Here 26 0 0.000

Bar Charlie was recently mentioned in a great Seattle Met article about Nautical Seattle Restaurants & Bars, so it was super busy when I go there for trivia this week! Next up, we need a mention for Trivia 🙂

We had a few of our regular teams there (And With 69 Points, Riff Raff, and Sleeping Booty), who all started off strong in Round 1, going Double-or-Nothing and getting those 2 bonus points for being registered at KingTrivia.com, the other three teams had a huge gap in points to make up.

Then in Round 2, Riff Raff took the lead by going Double-or-Nothing again on the Picture Round, scoring 16 more points, while the rest of the teams just weren't as strong on their video game symbols.

In Round 4, the Guess Who had one of the least descriptive 10-point clues I have ever read. It wasn't until the 8-point clue that there were two teams able to turn in their answer - and it also encouraged a solo bar-goer to join the Trivia fun! Great job to J for joining us, and to Graduated but Broke and Sleeping Booty for being the first to turn in their answers.

In Round 5, it was a close round, but the only team to correctly Find the Connection was Sleeping Booty - you really know your blood work!

Onto Round 6, the matching of the Diets seemed to be pretty well-known. So much so that five of our now seven teams went Double-or-Nothing, keeping the competition alive into the final round.

The Round 7, Young Whippersnappers, was a tough one for most. But a great showing from Donner Party of 8, who had the high score for this round.

In the end, it was Riff Raff in 1st, And with 69 Points in 2nd, and Sleeping Booty in 3rd. Great job to everyone, though, and thank you all for coming out for a fun night - it's not all about winning! I appreciate each and every one of you - Graduated But Broke, Donner Party of 8, J, and The Cool Kids - it wouldn't have been the same without you!

See you all again next Tuesday!
