About Bar Charlie

Bar Charlie landed in the North Lake Union neighborhood of Seattle in December 2016. Bar Charlie aims to be a comfortable neighborhood bar featuring beers, food and spirits crafted in the greater Pacific Northwest.

Bar Charlie's interior concept is inspired by the history of the De Havilland Beaver Seaplane and is a mix of actual seaplane parts, wood, concrete and metal.  The walls have photography and art detailing the history of Seaplanes on Lake Union.

Bar Charlie was created by Christian Thomason with mentoring and construction assistance from Chris Navarra.

Bar Charlie evolved out of the desire to do something more than tackle an endless mountain of bureaucratic paperwork.  It’s intended to be a neighborhood gathering spot, a place to unwind with good drinks and food.

We had 5 teams for trivia this week and some really tough questions.

Riff Raff started out as strong as ever with their Double-or-Nothing option for twice the points plus the two extra points for having their team registered on KingTrivia.com. And they kept their lead all the way until Round 4, when they turned in their answer too soon, and guess incorrectly, costing them one precious point, which brought them down to 2nd, as Risk it for the Biscuit pulled ahead into 1st.

With Sea Foam Green keeping their pace in 5th place throughout the game, that left it to Charvia Trivlie and Team Hotpie to duke it out for 3rd.

In Round 2, the picture round caused some confusion on the Erlenmeyer flask and a Graduated cylinder, with a few teams guessing they were a beaker and test tube. No one knew what a Retort was (including me, except I had the answers), but brownie points for some creative guesses.

Round 4, Guess Where, had a couple of teams forget that it could be a real or fictional place, but in the end, only 1 wrong answer.

We did have a typo on the Round 6 handout, but the teams might have been scared to let me know, due to Rule #3, Quizmaster is always right, but I'm glad they did bring it up! Army Men: Green Rouge would be a way different game than Green Rogue!

Finally to Round 7, the final round asked two questions this week. One of our players mentioned to me that Round 7 typically plays to one kind of nerd or another, but this week, we got to use brain power for 2 kinds! The questions were in no way related, so it was a good mix of answers.

In the end, of course, we had a winner that kept their lead since Round 4 all the way through to Round 7 - Risk it for the Biscuit were the victors in 1st place, followed closely (2 points away) by Riff Raff in 2nd place, and Team Hotpie came in 3rd.

Honorable mention to Charvia Trivlie and Sea Foam Green for sticking with us.

Thank you to everyone who came out to play! See you again next week 🙂

There were some tough questions going around at Trivia this Tuesday at Bar Charlie.

We started the night off with some General Knowledge, where 2 teams got extra points for being registered on KingTrivia.com, but that wasn't enough to outweigh the Double-or-Nothing of the Val-erinas, who started off with a bang!

The Picture Round had us de-computing the symbols, which kept the scores pretty steady across the board.

Then in Round 3, T n' T was a good enough clue to get Riff Raff and Sleeping Booty the Double-or-Nothing, and even though Val-erinas got all the answers right, they didn't double down on this round, causing them to abandon their lead.

The Guess Who round had one team turn in a hasty incorrect answer after the 8 point clue, costing them 1 point, while the rest of the teams waited for the 4 point clue before turning in their answers to guess the who correctly as The Phantom of the Opera!

Going into Round 5, we still had Riff Raff and Sleeping Booty tied for first, and while a few teams did find the right connection, none got all 10 questions right on this round.

Once we got through Round 6, the handout pairing the Sitcom Boss to their TV show, Riff Raff was able to secure their lead, while A Dog Named Goat and APR Crew were still inching along.

The Final Round asked for 10 Box Office Heavyweights, which was a tough ask for all the teams, the highest score during this round was only 5 points, and APR Crew took a dive, scoring nothing off their Double-or-Nothing marker.

It was a close game over the course of the night, ending with Riff Raff in 1st place, followed by Sleeping Booty in 2nd, and Val-erinas in 3rd.

Thank you to everyone who came out to play! See you all again next week!

Game Rank Team # Team Name Score Teams Beaten Team Beat Average
1 17940 Riff Raff 52 4 1.000
2 17705 Sleeping Booty 50 3 0.750
3 Val-erinas 44 2 0.500
4 A Dog Named Goat 35 1 0.250
5 APR Crew 31 0 0.000

Tuesday Night Trivia this week held some tough questions and even a challenge answer!

Sleeping Booty came out of the gate at top speed, thanks to having their team registered at KingTrivia.com and a strong Round 1 answer set, their General Knowledge skills were top notch!

In Round 2, we were joined by an additional team, thanks for joining the game, Events & Such, these ladies were full of great energy and laughter to keep our spirits up throughout the evening.

Round 3 brought out our artsy-crime side, with Crime Show Haikus. I felt like a slam poetry artist on stage, with the audience just trying to figure out what in the world I was talking about 🙂

Round 4 was our Guess Where round; rather than a person this week, we were looking for a national landmark, which caused some discussion about what constitutes a natural wonder. As it turns out, the distinguishing portion in the first clue for 10 points was the mention of the expedition that named Old Faithful in 1870 - that was not the same group that named Yellowstone National Park.

The connection in Round 5 was a bunch of palindromes... wouldn't it be cool if the word palindrome was a palindrome itself too?

Musicals seemed to be a tough subject for most, in Round 6. The highest any team scored on this round was 8 out of 10.

And in the final round, Events & Such took a dive with their Double or Nothing shot in the dark - all in good fun! That's what we're here for!

It was a tight match, but in the end, we had Quizzards of Oz on top in 1st place, followed by Sleeping Booty in 2nd place, and then We Don't Know Val or Musicals in 3rd. Thanks for coming out and sticking with us Mally Catt, you guys were troopers! And Events & Such were a breath of fresh air for this Quizmaster 🙂

See you all again next week!
