Canterbury Ale House was the place to be on Tuesday as eight enthusiastic teams set records, bet it all (a few teams repeatedly) and many struggled with geography beginning with the letter P.
Bunnydale HS Cheer Squad wins the QM's unofficial award for most improved team within a single game after they rocketed from the cellar nearly into medal contention. Knowing when Harvard University was founded made all the difference for them -- several teams guessing early that the answer was Vatican City were not so happy.
While the lead switched places early on, in the end it was Killer Tofurkey and Live Free or Pie Hard battling for first. Killer Tofurkey won it all by knowing all nine of the "P" U.N. Member States; Live Free or Pie Hard came up with just eight and had to settle for second (and the QM's award for favorite team name of the night).
In a first for this QM -- ALL of the teams went Double or Nothing in a single round -- the Gubernaturtally Handout Round. All eight teams bet it all! Six teams were glad about their wager.
As an added bonus, everyone played a round of Survey Slam just for fun -- and fun was had by all. They'll start hitting the surveys this week.

Our players, human and canine, displayed great patience and flexibility as we proceeded without a sound system this evening. QM Jim got his steps in and then some going from table to table for direct QM-on-Team trivia. Personal attention was the name of the game.
Honey Smack Rejects and Tokyo Banana started the game tied with perfect scores, successfully doubling in Round 1 plus two points for having registered team numbers. (The canine players were thrilled with a "Lady and the Tramp" question). Honey Smack Rejects took a 1 point lead after Round 2; Tokyo Banana answered by tying the game back up after Round 3, while a single point separated the other teams vying for third. Between this excitement and running table to table, QM Jim achieved his target heart rate and all of his steps through next Friday.
Everyone felt a little dogged when none of the teams could figure out the Oscar-nominated actress connection. Everyone was nonetheless a good sport; no howling or whining was heard.
In the end, solo player That Guy beat Honey Smacks by a single point for third place thanks to his stellar picture round. Honey Smack Rejects took second place and Tokyo Banana won the night.

It was a night of learning for us all at the Quiz this week.
We learned the Slumdog Millionaire is also a film with two words.
We learned that, according to someone that has been to a Sonic, their Ocean Water beverage tastes "like Sonic... kinda vague..."
We learned that a team name is still an innovative way to plug your personal projects.
And most importantly, we learned that Tokyo Banana, Listen to the Flipside Podcast, and Honey Smacks will have gift cards to apply to their checks the next time they're at The Canterbury for being the top three teams of the night!
I'm excited to find out what we'll learn next Tuesday!
