Hey Readers. Big news, tonight marked my three-month mark as emcee with King Trivia!! And I had the BEST teams playing tonight to celebrate.
We had returning players: The Braintrust, Yosegaki, Tokyo banana, Our drinking team has a trivia problem, and The Red Raccoons;
with first-time players: the Bigheads, Flying V, Simps of the square table, Trivia Newton John’s, and Big T Little t.
With all 10 teams registered and gunning to play, we kicked off the night of all things trivial! As always, we had the amazing staff of the Canterbury Ale House; Joey, David, Danny, and Laticia keeping everyone fed and merry.
It wasn't until Round 6 that any one team broke out of the pack (this week posed some extremely difficult questions, puzzling even the strongest of our nights' contenders!)
However, three teams went Double or Nothing in Round 6. Sadly for newcomers, Simps of the square table, their efforts would not pay off and they earned themselves a zero for the round. But for returning champs, Braintrust, and newcomer one-man-team Flying V, their efforts proved fruitful as they each respectfully earned themselves 20-points for the round!!
But in the end there could only be two reigning champions...
In first place, with a grand total of 46 points, the team that everyone loves to hate; the cocky motherfuckers who got BOOED BY THE ENTIRE BAR, The Braintrust!!!
But hot on their tails and coming in second by only one point diff, the ONE MAN WONDER, team Flying V (who by the way was given a WHOLE BAR STANDING OVATION, because who doesn't love an underdog?!).
Signing off, Ms. WestleeBee 🐝
Exciting times at the Cantebury Ale House, where every Wednesday night is King Trivia Night!! AND EXCITING IT MOST DEFINITELY WAS, as we had 8 first-time teams join the ranks in the pursuit of all things trivial!!
Our eight newcomers were:
- The Moist Bois,
- Ankle Biters,
- Just here for the beer,
- The NewYorkers,
- Sun Bum’s Drinking Rum,
- Loyal Bing Users,
- Sesame Street Walkers,
- Team jayhawk, and
- Ayy my girl needs a drink!
As if that wasn't enough competition to beat, we also welcomed in our returning players:
- The Red Raccoons,
- Panic! At The Yoshi - I Write BWOMPS Not Tragedies, and
- The girl who hasn’t started her period yet but her boobs sprouted so it will happen soon.
With all the teams antsy and revved up, we kicked off our night. True to their name, The Ankle Biters bit hard in Round One by going Double or Nothing. Sadly for those little rascals, they bit off more than they could chew as they did not successfully answer all the round's questions correctly, earning a big ole zero for the round and landing themselves in time out to reflect upon their actions.
Moving right along to Round Two, the Sun Bum’s Drinking Rum, Sesame Street Walkers, Moist Bois, Loyal Bing Users, and The girl who hasn’t started her period yet but her boobs sprouted so it will happen soon put their noodles to the test and went Double or Nothing!! For three of the teams, hope and dreams would be realized, respectively earning their teams 16 points!! But alas, feeling the burn and saturated with defeat, the Moist Bois and Sun Bum’s Drinking Rum would not be as fortunate.
Noting the indiscriminating plight and risk of going Double or Nothing, all teams tread lightly and strategically through Rounds Three, Four, and Five, opting not to go for the double point ruse. However, by Round Six, curiosity got the better of the cat; as well as The Red Raccoons, Loyal Bing Users, Ayy my girl needs a drink, and Team jayhawk.
In the end, the loudest and proudest team, Ayy my girl needs a drink, snagged first place with a total of 60 points. Which was obnoxiously perfect, as the boastings of this loudmouthed lush left the other players wondering whether or not she was an IMAX theatre, cause she was making a big scene...
Which begs the question, who amongst the 11 other contenders would go home that night with the silver and only slightly salty?! Well readers, in a majestically poetic way, it was the one-man-wonder Team jayhawk with 57 points, coming up silent and stealthy to steal second place!!
As always, a huge shout out to the Canterbury Ale House for hosting and to their all-star staff: David, Joey, Laticia, and Danny.
Ms. WestleeBee signing off. XO
Happy Wednesday from the Canterbury Ale House, where every Wednesday night at 7 o'clock, it's King Trivia Night!!! Tonight we welcomed 9 first-time teams and 3 returning teams with a collective of 45 players!!
Our teams for the night were, newcomers:
- FR3
- RIP Freddie from School of Rock
- My drinking team has a trivia problem
- Yes We CANturbury
- Team 510
- Jenny Durkan’s Missing Texts
- Scott’s Tots
- Foil Hats and Big ol’ Bats
- Much Ado About Canterbury
and returning teams:
- The Braintrust
- The Red Raccoons
- The Knights of the Brown Table
With David and Joey slinging drinks behind the bar and Danny and Laticia serving up delicious food in the kitchen, we kicked off the night and got down to all things trivial!!
Right out of the gate, our reigning champs, The Knights of The Brown Table made an aggressive mark of their territory by going Double or Nothing in Round 2 and made an 11-point lead over the contending teams. But perhaps feeling a little too comfortable with their multi-week victories, the Knights preemptively guessed our mystery person in the Clue Round (Round 4) and earned themselves a -1 point denomination. Following suit in the Knight's brazen approach, newcomer team Much Ado About Canterbury also guessed our mystery individual incorrectly and were given a -1 point penalty.
However, the night was young and we still had 3 more rounds to go (all with Double or Nothing in play). Would the Knights prevail? Could they be dethroned?! Was the kitchen going to run out of chicken wings?!?!?! With uncertainty and egos aflame, we continued on....
In Round 5, another newcomer team Jenny Durkan's Missing Texts, nearly dethroned the Knights when they went Double or Nothing. Sadly, and moronically akin to those god damn missing texts, our newcomers' efforts did not pan out as they missed a single answer and were forced to take a zero for the round. But perhaps all was not lost, after all, we successfully solved the mystery of where all of Jenny Durkan's Missing Texts had been hiding all this time: lost in time, lost in space; getting sloshed and perpetually forgetting to hit the send button at the Canterbury Ale House!
In the second to last round for the night, 5 teams went balls to the wall, opting to go Double or Nothing! Of those 5 valiant teams, were 3 first-time players: Yes We CANturbury, FR3, and Scott's Tots. Feeling the pressure to perform and fighting to the end, our 2 returning champions: Knights of The Brown Table and The Braintrust hedged their bets as well. Would it pay off?! YES IT WOULD!!!! All five teams that went Double or Nothing in Round 6 successfully answered the round's 10 questions and each respectively earned themselves 20 points!
Leading into our final round of the night, our teams were scored as followed,
The newcomers:
- FR3, 43
- RIP Freddie from School of Rock, 33
- My drinking team has a trivia problem, 26
- Yes We CANturbury, 35
- Team 510, 42
- Jenny Durkan’s Missing Texts, 28
- Scott’s Tots, 34
- Foil Hats and Big ol’ Bats, 18
- Much Ado About Canterbury, 9
and our returning teams:
- The Braintrust, 44
- The Red Raccoons, 33
- The Knights of the Brown Table, 49
The Knights seemed a shoe-in to once again take home the crown and first place bragging rights. However, the kitchen HAD run out of chicken wings and the contending teams, fueled by a vicious, mob-forming, hangry rage, refused to go home without a fight to the death!!
Putting it all on the line, 6 teams went Double or Nothing in our final round: The Braintrust, The Red Raccoons, The Knights of the Brown Table, RIP Freddie from School of Rock, My Drinking Team Has a Trivia Problem, and Team 510.
Well readers, for 4 of the 6 teams who went Double or Nothing, fortune smiled upon them and they each respectively earned themselves 20-points! Unbelievably, and most painfully, our reigning champs The Knights were not in the company of the fortunate four. But being gracious and sovereign rulers, The Knights relinquished the throne and thus ended their dynasty!
With a grand total of 64-points, The Braintrust claimed first place and proudly donned the crown as the night’s King Trivia Champions. But whom, amongst the valiant 11 contending teams would claim the second place prize?! Well readers, coming out of our final round, Double or Nothing free-for-all, three teams were tied for second place and entered an instant death tiebreaker!!
FR3, RIP Freddie from School of Rock, and The Red Raccoons vied for the second place crown, being asked the ridiculously ambiguous question of “How much did the movie Goodfellas gross in the opening weekend in the USA?”
Hilariously, our three tied teams had highly optimistic opinions of the movie, each guessing the movie grossed $14 million, $17 million, and $12 million respectively. However, there could only be one second-place team, and with the closest approximation to the correct answer of $6,368,901, The Red Raccoons triumphantly claimed second place with their answer of $12 million!!
With the game finally at an end, the victors crowned, and the amazing staff of the Canterbury Ale House safe from a violent, uproarious chicken-wing craving mob, yours truly closed the night.
Until next week players, this has been Ms. WestleeBee as emcee. Good night and good luck. Xo.
