Whisk(e)y originates from Gaelic for “water of life”. According to author David Broom, the Scots and Irish Gaelic translation of this is uisge beatha. This referred to a proto-whisk(e)y redistilled with spices and herbs and the straight version became known as 'usky'."

Now is it Whiskey or Whisky? In short, the spelling "whiskey" is common in the United States and Ireland. The rest of the world, including Japan, Scotland and Canada, uses "whisky."

Bourbon, Rye, Single Malts, Blends - they're all whisk(e)y. There is no one right way to drink all whisk(e)ys. Whether you drink it neat or on the rocks, whisk(e)y is one of America's most beloved spirits.  Enjoying this beverage is a personal journey that could easily change from week to week, day to day, drink to drink.

You'll find that many whisk(e)ys are greatly enhanced by ice, but you'd be doing yourself a disservice if you don't at least try the whiskey neat. Have you tried your Scotch with a few drops of mineral water?  A splash of water can be a great thing as it releases the hydrophobic elements in the glass, allowing you to detect more aromatics on the nose, and by lowering the alcohol content, it can allow you to taste more flavors on your palate.

At Hops & Scotch we have over 450 types of whisk(e)ys ranging from American Bourbon to Japanese Whisk(e)y.  Whether you like your rye neat or your Scotch with a drop of mineral water, or your bourbon with our ice spheres molded at the bar, Hops & Scotch is sure to have something to please your palate!

Nick of Thyme, Preciate Cha, and Positively Negative all came out strong, nailing a double or nothing on the very first round to tie for the lead. After that strong start, Preciate Cha fell off somewhat, allowing We Drink and Know Things to steadily improve their standing. Preciate Cha came roaring back towards the end, though. Back to back double or nothings in rounds 5 and 6 brought them handily into the lead, and while they didn't risk another double or nothing in round 7, they did get all the answers right for a resounding 75 point finish.

Game Rank Team # Team Name Score Teams Beaten Team Beat Average
1 21760 Preciate Cha 75 6 1.000

Once again, we had a few teams hit double or nothings in the first round: Positively Negative, We Drink and Know Things, and Preciate Cha. Cliston's Pistons uncharacteristically missed their first couple of double or nothings, hitting one in round 3...and missing a couple more before the end of the game. Preciate Cha dropped off a bit after their initial lead, but Positively Negative and We Drink and Know Things duked it out for first place. It was a nailbiter as they were just one point apart in round 6, and then also finished just one point apart. But they swapped positions in that final round, with Positively Negative squeaking ahead for the win. Newcomers I don't know finished a strong third, and could end up being serious contenders as that 3rd place finish was after coming late and missing the first two rounds of trivia.

Things started off a little slower tonight, with no one quite brave enough to risk a double or nothing in round 1. That soon changed in round 2 though, with Cliston's Pistons, We Drink and Know Things, Positively Negative, and We drink and forget things all nailing a double or nothing in round 2. Sadly for We drink and forget things, they forgot who Rachel McAdams was, and fell behind in round 4. For quite awhile Positively Negative was in the top spot, but round 7 saw them bumped down by one point to third, with Cliston's Pistons solidly taking first and We Drink and Know Things finally placing second.
