About Hops & Scotch

Whisk(e)y originates from Gaelic for “water of life”. According to author David Broom, the Scots and Irish Gaelic translation of this is uisge beatha. This referred to a proto-whisk(e)y redistilled with spices and herbs and the straight version became known as 'usky'."

Now is it Whiskey or Whisky? In short, the spelling "whiskey" is common in the United States and Ireland. The rest of the world, including Japan, Scotland and Canada, uses "whisky."

Bourbon, Rye, Single Malts, Blends - they're all whisk(e)y. There is no one right way to drink all whisk(e)ys. Whether you drink it neat or on the rocks, whisk(e)y is one of America's most beloved spirits.  Enjoying this beverage is a personal journey that could easily change from week to week, day to day, drink to drink.

You'll find that many whisk(e)ys are greatly enhanced by ice, but you'd be doing yourself a disservice if you don't at least try the whiskey neat. Have you tried your Scotch with a few drops of mineral water?  A splash of water can be a great thing as it releases the hydrophobic elements in the glass, allowing you to detect more aromatics on the nose, and by lowering the alcohol content, it can allow you to taste more flavors on your palate.

At Hops & Scotch we have over 450 types of whisk(e)ys ranging from American Bourbon to Japanese Whisk(e)y.  Whether you like your rye neat or your Scotch with a drop of mineral water, or your bourbon with our ice spheres molded at the bar, Hops & Scotch is sure to have something to please your palate!

It was a cool 91 degrees out when we started our game.

It was a tight race between J-Roc and Better Late Than Pregnant all night for first place. J-Roc hit with a double or nothing to pull into a commanding lead in round 6, but Better Late Than Pregnant returned the favor in round 7, claiming victory with a one-point lead.

For the drinking round, everyone was asked what Spider-Man was up to, now that Sony and Disney had split up and he was out of the MCU. These are the winning answers:

  • Joins the Democratic presidential candidates.
  • Stripping, definitely stripping. Down to nothing but his spidey senses.
  • Spider-Man will team up with Jeff Goldblum to figure out how to get back into the MCU.
  • Peter breaks up with Mary Jane and stops fighting crime so he can smoke more Mary Jane.
  • He is desperately trying to contact S.H.I.E.L.D. agents to go on his next Avengers mission, only to realize the "S.H.I.E.L.D." he knows & loves has never existed. He uses his knowledge to write a comic book series titled, "The Avengers," under the pen name, "Uncle Ben"- makes millions and starts a multi-million dollar org(like Stark industries) only to realize the villains he writes about come to life for him to fight.

Game Rank Team # Team Name Score Teams Beaten Team Beat Average
1 21932 Better Late than Pregnant 59 3 1.000
2 21415 J-Roc 58 2 0.667

It was packed tonight at Hops & Scotch, with team J-Roc having to stand at one of the beer barrels as all the sofas, chairs and tables were taken!

The match was very close among several of our returning teams tonight, but it was a bold 20-point double or nothing in round 5's "find the connection" that shot Preciate Cha into the lead, where they held on until the very end to take first place for the night.

The drinking round was inspired by this last weekend's Silicon Valley Comic-Con. Everyone was asked why they would have commanded lines around the block for their autographs, for more money than the hundreds of dollars that Arnold Schwarzenegger was getting for his autograph at the convention. Here are the winning entries:

  • I'm Bigfoot.
  • My D&D character is a world-famous masturbator.
  • Because I am Arnold's son in law Chris Pratt.
  • All this body.
  • My who ha sings the William Tell Overture prior to spouting fireworks.
