Man-oh-man! Our heart really ached for Electric Moustache - one of our favorite teams - who came oh-so-close to the brass ring this week at The Famous on Brand in Glendale. Yes, they had the win in site, having led all scoring throughout the evening's quizzing.
It was there for the taking. It was theirs to take. They'd earned it, having survived six straight rounds of tough competition. But those wily renegades Because Jeopardy Won't Let Us Drink had other plans, and despite a slow start, had been relentlessly gaining on the Moustache crew throughout the game. And at the end of Round 6, they were tied!
Tied! Yes, they were tied, with identical scores and identical ambitions! But after a successful double by the Jeopardy crew in Round 7, coupled with a crash-and-burn unsuccessful double by the Moustaches, gave Jeopardy the win, and brought heartbreak to the EMs.
And what of last week's winners, The Blanches? How did they fare, you might ask? Well, that's just one of those "close, but no cigar" stories that teams like The Bad News Barristers are so familiar with. Yes, they've experienced the glory of a King Trivia win in the past! But will they ever taste the sweet, sweet nectar of victory ever again?
Time will tell, my friends. Only time - and trivia competition - will tell. See ya next week,
We had us a big, BIG night of trivia fun this week at The Famous on Brand in Glendale! A raucous crowd - and I do mean crowd - filled the Famous to near capacity with the biggest assortment of enthusiastic trivia competitors we've ever seen at this venue. And they came ready to do battle.
It's easy to focus on the winners. Heck, you can see the formidable list of top scorers right there in the scoreboard. But this quizmaster wants to take a moment to applaud the plucky underdog who simply WILL NOT GIVE UP despite long odds and the unlikelihood of success.
Plucky underdogs like MARIO. Yes, Mario, who fell behind early in the game and set his sights on a late-game comeback. Yes, Mario, who opted for the risky double-on-nothing attempt in Round 5, which was bold - to be sure - but was ultimately, alas, unsuccessful.
That turn of events put Team Mario even further back in the pack. And so they figured that the only way to overcome such a large deficit would be yet another bold, risky double-or-nothing attempt in Round 6! But egad! That attempt also failed, and now Mario was playing not to win, but simply for scoreboard respectability. At least they could still post a respectable score, right? Right! That's RIGHT. Mario!
And so, in Round 7. Mario once again opted for the badly needed double-or-nothing 20-point score...
We don't have to tell you how this played out, do we? I mean, DO WE!? Mario...beloved, respected, desperate Mario, crashed and burned with their third consecutive double-or-nothing failure. But man, it was a glorious, disastrous run! We salute you Team Mario! You went down in a blaze of trivia glory!
See y'all next week.
We all know that King Trivia offers the hottest games in town, right!? From our myriad weekly trivia contests throughout Southern California (and now popping up in several other states) to our new Survey Slam games that are already attracting lots of enthusiastic attention, King Trivia is definitely the leading source of the hottest entertainment options around.
And when I say hot, I mean HOT! But last night's contest at The Famous on Brand in Glendale almost got a little too hot, as the evening's festivities began with flashing lights, alarm bells and a visit from the fine men and women of the Glendale fire department! Okay, it was a false alarm, triggered by a faulty switch in a control panel. But it nonetheless provided a striking moment of perspective that illustrated the overall hotness of all things King Trivia.
If you multiple that hottest by a factor of three, you might get close to the red-hot, iridescent quality evinced by the trio of pulchritudinous brilliance who call themselves The Blanches. Yup, that's them there in photo number one, looking all smug and self-assured, as only a team capable of racking up 101 points can look while trouncing the competition to win the night!
We all bow down in deference to your trivia dominance, Blanches! Thank you for not burning the building down around us. See ya next week.
