QUIZ RECAP

While the St. Louis Blues were in the process of taking home Lord Stanley's cup, we were playing trivia at Strand Brewing Co. in Torrance. Started out with 9 teams but got weeded down to 5 and it was a fun battle. Great Minds Drink Alike showed up with 2 first place wins in a row, gunning for the 3 peat! Sam's Family got off to a great start and took the lead by 1 in round 1. PHX Rising scored a disappointing round with 1 point, however they stormed back by doubling correctly in Round 2 and found themselves squarely in the hunt. It was a close contest and then, as they have been know to do, Great Minds went for the Gold in Round 5 and correctly doubled, putting them ahead by 9.

Had a fun beer round and played the card game "higher or lower". For the 2nd week in a row, Uniballers was ontop of their guessing skills and took home the delicious 4 pack of Little Bear IPA.

It became a 3 horse race heading into the final Round. Sam's Family was feeling bold and went for the double but missed and came in 3rd. PHX Rising scored a strong 6 but did not turn their pen in with the score sheet and were denied the 2 points. Final for them was 46. Great Minds had a very strong 7, turned their pen in for the extra 2 and came away with a very impressive 3 peat! Iron Man was very happy. 1st, 2nd and 3rd place all got gift certificates to Ragin Cajun restaurant a very generous and pleasant surprise for the winners. Sincere thanks to Strand Brewing Co.

QUIZ RECAP

Well it was a relatively quiet evening at Strand Brewing.Co. Could it have been the NBA playoffs, the phase of the moon or just one of those nights? We will never know.

Anyway, I am getting ready to get on a plane to New York for a mini vacation so gotta be brief.

Great Minds Drink Alike obviously came to play and took the lead in Round 1 and never looked back. They played safely and consistently and won by a comfortable 19 points. Nothing fancy, no doubling, they found the connection and turned in their pen for the extra 2. They are also the first returning Champ from the previous week and got the honor of having the Iron Man trophy at their table. A new team called Rory (named after their beautiful retriever that was with them) had a nice showing being only a 2 person squad.

Sam's Family was with us again and has been there all 3 times. They even took the time to register and have joined the ranks of the true trivia players. I got to pet little Sam and I think he liked me.

Had a very fun beer round and played bounce the pencil into the cup or what I like to call "Stick The Landing". Got that suggestion from the KingTrivia newsletter and I very much appreciate that you guys. It got pretty fast and furious and the pencils and cups were flying. In the end Uniballers prevailed and collected their delicious 4 pack of Little Bear IPA from Strand Brewing

QUIZ RECAP

Another very fun night of King Trivia at Strand Brewing Co. in Torrance. 10 teams showed up and all very energetic and ready to play. Last week's champ was not there so Iron Man got to hang out with me for the evening until getting his picture taken with the 1st place team.
Typically, the teams got off to a slow start except of course We Suck At Trivia who scored a perfect 6! I do not believe they suck. Anyway, the game progressed and the pace picked up with all teams competing very well. Had some creative answers and awarded a couple of extra points for that. If the answer is wrong but makes me laugh that deserves a point!
For the free beer round I had the teams make a paper airplane to be tossed the farthest for the win. One at a time a rep from each team made their toss and there were some great ones and few that didn't go too far. Howard Stern's Penis rose to the occasion and tossed what I thought would be the winner. Some "stiff" competition for sure :-). Tip Of The Spear stepped up and promptly threw a beauty and wound up winning a fresh 4 pack of Little Bear IPA. Must have gone 20 yards or so.
After the fun was over back to business and Round 5 saw an interesting twist. Great Minds Drink Alike was tied for the lead with 26 and doubled and missed! 2 teams moved ahead of them and they remained tied with Bye Bye Bobit, because amazingly they also doubled and missed! It was a 7-horse race heading into rounds 6 and 7. In the end Great Minds Drink Alike hung tough in 6 and made up for missing their double in 5 and doubled and nailed it in 7. They got to hold IronMan for their 1st place finish and will sit with them when we play next week. Beer Guzzlers were right on their heels with a successful double in 6 but fell short by 5 at the finish.
There were quite a few 2 person teams like We Drink And Know Nothing and I am impressed at how well they do against the larger squads.
It was a very exciting evening and fun was had by all. Yours truly made a few rookie mistakes once again but I'm learning and hope to have it all under control very soon.
