Wow, we had a full night with 33 teams, at least 140 players (plus a kid and a very sweet pup!), and not an empty seat in the house! Awesome!! Round 1 reminded us to check out the Question of the Day ahead of time on social media, as many of us guessed a random musician (or other celebrity). After the round, we introduced teams, and with permission from the family of the child present, we stayed uncensored with team names ranging from "Mario Farts" and "Lil Clitty" to "Oedipus And The Motherfuckers" and "Shit Fuck Penis Cock" (a team which didn't end up playing but definitely entertained us with their name)... and everything in between. Round 2 scores were "Trending" up with many successful Double-or-Nothings, while a few teams got close but couldn't quite Keep Up with who's who in the Kardashian and Jenner family. Then we sang a terribly off-key rendition of Happy Birthday to Liv and Ysa of team "Liv and Ysa's BDAY BASH". In Round 3, teams were really divided between two states, and half the room then learned that Los Alamos is not the same area as The Alamo. After that round, James with our super awesome sponsor Firestone 805 had prizes! After two rounds of a 1st place tie between Will Teach 4 Pizza and Cluckin' Cowgirls (who came prepared with super cool, shiny *matching hats*!), Cluckin' Cowgirls pulled ahead just in time for the midway prize! We also gave out Pity Prizes for the teams tied in last place (of the teams that had submitted that Round): TITUS! and The Cream Team. Round 4 went Smooth Like Butter. Shout-out to the four teams that got it at the 10 point clue: Cluckin' Cowgirls, TITUS!, Oedipus And The Motherfuckers, and Liv and Ysa's BDAY BASH! That also got the BDAY BASH team up into 2nd place, and Oedipus up to 4th. Round 5's connection was a slam dunk for most teams, and teams Fully Torqued and Ana Lisa Melculo traveled to the top of the leaderboard, knocking the birthday team to 3rd. Round 6 further Altered the leaderboard, as Liv and Ysa moved to the top spot, followed by Ana Lisa Melculo then Fully Torqued and a 3-way tie close behind in 4th. Then it all came down to geography. A lot of teams learned a valuable lesson: Mexico is part of *North* America. Ana Lisa Melculo locked in 1st place with a Double-or-Nothing, while Liv and Ysa had all the answers right but didn't Double-or-Nothing, taking them down to 2nd. So close! Lax is Life surprised us all by sneaking up into 3rd place. Meanwhile, best team name had soooo many great options. But the winner stood out by having the longest team name (by far!) and making the most people giggle, so the prize went to: "A band of pirates that gets progressively more homoerotic as the night goes on, except for one guy"! We didn't give out a Lowest Score for the end of the night, but I still must acknowledge team Still Flaccid Thanks For Asking, who swapped accounts just in time to get a -1 as their total score for the night, a new low score record! Prizes tonight were off the hook - each team member of the winning teams got their own prize, choosing between a hat, sunglasses, or a bottle opener. Sweet! It was a truly fun night.

Tonight we had 23 teams and an impressive 111 players, plus a very cute dog named Banks (see pic). Round 1 had many players boasting about their latest Wordle score. Round 2 made us grateful for all those cartoons we watched, and a very excited Bricked Up On A Thursday pulled ahead of the pack into 1st place, eying the hat with the 1st place prize tonight. Teams Yoshi, War on Quizmas, and Moms of the Week all tied for 2nd. In Round 3, we listed out all of Tom Hanks classics, and learned that Jingle Bells has a more Thankful beginning than we knew! Bricked Up continued to hold the top spot, Moms of the Week held onto 2nd, and Yoshi moved to 3rd. Round 4 again honored Black History Month, and 2 teams recognized Mrs King at the 10 point level: Shout out to Bricked Up On A Thursday and RDN for that! Round 5 was sneaky / clever / dastardly this week, depending who you asked. No teams got the connection, and when I announced it, I heard a loud "Huh?" But as I read back through the key words from the answers, there was a collective groan as I got to French, and some "I see what you did there" finger shaking. Our top 3 teams held their places through rounds 4 & 5. In Round 6, 6 teams knew all The Write Answers with Double-or-Nothing confidence, and Fully Torqued snuck up into 3rd. Then it all came down to Africa. A few teams thought they'd gotten the right answer, but had put Nigeria instead of Niger - oh no! And clearly everyone was still in it to win it, because no one went for a big booty joke with Djibouti, despite the prime set up of biggest land area. Team Yoshi pulled out an impressive Double-or-Nothing to take back 3rd, while Moms of the Week proudly took 2nd, and Bricked Up On A Thursday finally took home 1st place again. There were a lot of excellent options for Best Team Name, but after ruling out teams that left early or had won before, we voted on two. "Wow... I Can't Even Say This Team Name" was a close 2nd, but the prize went to "Still Flaccid Thanks For Asking." Super fun when they came to collect their prize. I asked "Still Flaccid?" And they said "Unfortunately yes." How awkward that would have been if it wasn't them! 😂 Woodstocks Santa Cruz remains, by far, the awesomest place to be on a Thursday night. See you all next week!

The crowd poured in at about 8:50 and the atmosphere was buzzing! We had 165 players tonight - a new record! In Round 1, we learned that TikTok promises to Make Our Day. In Round 2, there was an audible groan when many teams realized they'd missed Mary Tyler Moore. In Round 3, teams tried to find Whoopi Goldberg's Oscar movie by naming a lot of different Whoopi movies... and tv shows... and even things she wasn't in... And then we all sang Happy Birthday to India on Slugbotics! In Round 4, a lot of us learned MLK's Star Trek connection, and shout-out to the 3 teams that got it at the 10 point level: Will Teach 4 Pizza, Tater Tots, and Still Flaccid Thanks For Asking. The latter two teams had perfect scores every round so far! Round 5 took us out to the old ball game, with quite a few teams finding the connection, and team Still Flaccid left (we assume to get that looked at..), leaving just Tater Tots for other teams (especially Bricked Up) to try and catch. In Round 6, we had my favorite wrong answer this far: Cool Hair Luke. (Sounds like an epic drama!) Tater Tots didn't Double-or-Nothing that round, leaving them just 2 points ahead of a very excited Bricked Up on a Thursday. And then it all came down to a Zodiac thriller. In the end, Tater Tots remained 2 points ahead of Bricked Up, and 3rd place had a Tie Breaker, giving the win to A Shout-out To Our Sponsors This Evening: "Ligma". Though they weren't actually part of the tie breaker, E Plurbus Anus was actually the closest guess, only off by 10! Tater Tots set a new record high with 99 points, and are proving to be a fierce competitor... Though they did also have about half the patio on their team. We had a lot of great options for Best Team Name, some of which left early and missed their shot at the prize. We ended up with a fun sluggy team, Slugbotics, claiming the title. Join us next week, when the battle for the top spot continues with teams old and new!
