Tonight was a night of mixed doubles at Longship Brewery. We had some interesting things going on during the trivia match in terms of score, that we never saw before. We also had some fun due to the fact that the March Madness Final Four are upon us.
In terms of scoring, the oddity was that with the exception of round four, when the dust settled, there were always at least two teams with the same score. This made things really interesting as teams decided when they should take a stab at the double or nothing. We even had one team, Norse Code, hit two double or nothings back to back. Things were crazy. Things were wild. Things were MAD!
And in the beer round, we used that Madness to draw on inspiration four our question. I mean, for our question. Four. Final Four. College Basketball!
We told our trivia squads that there was going to be a new team entered into the NCAA tournament - The University of Longship Brewery Vikings, and that for the beer round they had to come up with the logo that was going to be used by Longship in the tournament. You can see entries if you scroll through the photos, but the winner was the beer pint glass toppled over, submitted by Papa Moustache. It was really hard to decide but they were all great.
Final standings:
First: Norse Code
Second: The Brain, That's 2 Kicks
Third: Pickle Rick!
Tonight, we were happy to show some birthday love to Longship Brewery's four legged mascot, Falkor. If you stop in the next few days, make sure to to wish him a belated birthday.
In honor of March Madness in the basketball world, we had something of a Cinderella story, bracket busting, story tonight. Fan favorites, Hawaiian Time started off in last place after the first round, but would make quite the run by the end of the night, pulling a successful double or nothing in round five to really make things interesting.
Perennial first place seeds, Indifferent Penguins, start off a bit slow, and folks might be concerned that the giants would going the way of the dinosaurs when Round Two proved to be a bit tricky. HOW WOULD THE BRACKETS END UP?
Well, I'll save you some suspense:
3rd: PQ Legends
2nd: Hawaiian Time
1st: Indifferent Penguins
For our beer round, we had first timers, To Beer or Not to Beer, take home the prize. They knew a lot about the stories we asked about in honor of World Story Telling Day. We hope to see you all next week for more trivia fun!
There was a little trickery at Longship Brewery tonight. When we got to round four, we did a "sample" round for all the new teams, just so every knows how it would work. When people started putting the clues together, they realized that we were talking about one of our favorite bartenders - Chuck! It was his birthday yesterday, and Ryan wanted us to sing happy birthday. There was even some cake! It was tasty, and fun to pull a fast one on the assistant brewer.
When it came to the game, the pack was pretty tight, score wise, until we got until round four when Did We Win? nailed the answer for ten points to take the lead and they never relinquished it.
The Indifferent Penguins and Batteries Not Included tied for second, but the Penguins were able to guess closer how big (in inches) the largest functional Game Boy was, so they took second place honors.
For our Beer Round, we took a look at all of the answers from rounds one through five to find the most funny wrong answer. This week the winner was the team: My Trivia Partner Thinks This Is A Date.
The questions - what were the alliterative nick names that Trump and Stormy Daniels used to talk about their "relationship."
Answer: Ginger Guy and Liar Lady.
Final standings:
3rd Place: Batteries Not Included
2nd Place: Indifferent Penguins
1st Place: Did We Win?
* Won Tiebreaker
