Wow! What a game tonight at Longship Brewery. Twelve, count 'em twelve, teams came to showcase their trivia might. There were lead changes galore, and a constant reshuffling of standings.
For the first time since King Trivia came to Longship Brewery, we had a milestone: Six separate teams correctly answered our "Guess Who" questions on the ten point clue! This is where the fun really started because it gave some teams second lives, and some other teams elevated stress levels.
For our Beer Round tonight, in honor of Monday's eclipse, we asked our teams to become creative journalists, and give us the headline of their article of this prompt: An unusual result due to the eclipse....
Porcupints report:
Peter Parker's Powers Lost While he Picks a Peck of Pickled Peppers, Despite the Partial Penumbra.
The Farkins report:
Trump Loses Eye Sight and 50 Shades of Orange.
But the now two time Beer Round winners, Pickle Rick, report simply:
Braille (They actually wrote it out in Braille.) (Think about it.)
Bar favorites Drinking Illini finished third. Newerish comers, Pickle Rick, placed second. And season vets Indifferent Penguins, took the main prize, once again.
We hope to see you all out at Longship Brewery next Tuesday!

We had a packed house at Longship Brewery tonight, where we had fun answering questions about board games, the Windy City, and R-rated movies. It was a close contest and there were many lead changes throughout the evening, with Indifferent Penguins taking the game, and the pretty cool Drinking Horn grand prize.
Second place honors went to 3 Degrees of Separation and third place going to the new and improved Popcorn Shrimp.
For our drink round, we were proud to announce that Longship Brewery will be debuting their Erik the Red tap. Ryan wouldn't share the recipe with us, but we thought we'd pick up on that as our theme, and asked our teams to use their culinary minds. We gave them 45 seconds to list as many ingredients as they could to Julia Child's Beef Bourguignon recipe. New team, Pickle Rick named 12 ingredients correctly and were able to sample some of Longship's finest drinks.
We hope to see more teams, old and new, in the weeks to come.
Although we're still many weeks away from October, things were getting a little spooky at Longship Brewery tonight - The sounds of howling dogs could be heard from distant tables. Teams attempted double or nothings in the first round. People's faces froze in terror after each clue in the "Guess Who?" round.
Then came round five, and the now infamous question that contained the phrase, "Creepypasta." You could hear a pin drop as the sound of silence enveloped all. The hair on the back of your neck rose at the chill of realizing that you may have never heard that term. An angry mob of villagers formed to take down the Monster who had asked the question. (Gulp.) Many feared for their trivia team's lives!
But then, much like watching an episode of Frasier after a scary movie so that you can go to bed with happy thoughts, came the drink round. We wanted our teams to have fun after the dreaded Creepypasta, so we combined creativity with trivia. Our host, Longship Brewery, has a distinct Viking theme, and so we asked our contestants to write their very best Viking themed haiku. (We didn't tell them what a haiku was, so that they could still show off their trivia knowledge.) Then we had bartender and resident Viking expert, Ryan, pick the winning poem.
The team winning this part of the contest were newcomers: Where's Brenda? Here is their entry:
Sail to Longship, bitch
Grab your Shieldwall and Huginn
Leave happy and full.
(Note: Shieldwall and Huginn are two of the names of Longship's taps, so very nice way to play to the judge.)
Runners up for the haiku contest was Moops
The wind blows swiftly
The men grow tired of this boat
New land is ahead
All of the entries were pretty impressive. After the drinks were poured, we finished the game with veterans 3 Degrees of Separation ending in the third place slot, Where's Brenda? conquering second, and other seasoned veterans Indifferent Penguins (plus one Chuck) taking top honors.
Well done to all, and we hope to see you back at Longship Brewery next Tuesday!
