Before I get into the usual thing, I was asked many times to make a special announcement: During tonight's game, crowd favorites, Hawaiian Time, had the first place score for two rounds. TWO ROUNDS.
Now back to our regularly scheduled program.
Tonight at Longship Brewery, we saw an epic story of perseverance. A story of inspiration. A story of beer. And Vikings. Kinda.
We had a new team tonight by the name of "The Beer's Not Helping." I swear I'm not making fun, but at the end of round one, their score was a total of three. Perennial heavy hitters, Indifferent Penguins, Cyber Chemists, and Hawaiian Time started off strong with high scores.
Round two only saw "The Beer's Not Helping," adding a single point to their total, with the other teams adding in heaps and droves. But they remained steadfast and added on points when they could.
Then came the beer round. Longship Brewery announced that on Thursdays, they will be hosting "Pint Sized Lectures" about all things Vikings. More info on their website if you are interested. The Viking word of the week was "Berserker" which translates to "Bear Warrior" and is a Norse champion who fights without armor and in a trance like fury. So we asked our teams to write down advice to a Berserker Champion representing Longship Brewery. Here's some examples:
Unicorn Fury - "Be like Johnny Depp in a Tim Burton movie."
Hawaiian Time - Don't use a Broken Spear, use your Loki's Wit, go behind a Shield Wall, but the Abomination and when all else fails, do the Sabatini. (Note, most of those are beer names at Longship.)
White Walker - "Violence isn't the answer. Why don't we have a beer at Longship on Tuesday at 6PM? I hear they have great trivia!"
PQ Legends - "Stick 'em with the pointy end."
But... The Beer's Not Helping Us took the beer round with the following advice:
"If you're going to fight, fight like you are the third monkey on the ramp to Noah's Ark and it's starting to rain! Now get in there!!!"
So they got the Beer...and much like an actual Berserker, they drank it and the beer started helping, "The Beer's Not Helping." They hacked and slashed their way through every question - picking up 29 points in two rounds, and by the end of regular, had forced a tie breaker with the Indifferent Penguins!!!!
The tiebreaker question - In minutes and seconds, how long was Ed Sheeran's 2017 album "Divide?"
The correct answer: 46:14.
Penguins: 63:12
The Beer's Not Helping: 46:30 - ONLY 16 SECONDS OFF!?!?!?!?!
What an amazing story and incredible accomplishment. Congratz to all and we hope to see everyone next week.

We were happy to be back at Longship, and a little more high and dry as the rain kept at bay. We were also excited to see that Longship Brewery now has Crowlers that you can fill with your favorite beer. They look pretty cool and let you take Longship ale home with you. Make sure to check it out.
This week's game started out with a tight race up until round three, where Pickle Rick! made a successful double or nothing, knowing everything there was to know about the Great Danes. They took the lead and never looked back.
There was a spirited fight for second and third between Cyber Chemists, Hawaiian Time, The Indifferent Penguins, and the Moops - but it would two newcomers to take second and third:
The PQ Legends (who have an adorable dog - picture included) scored high in the final three rounds to snatch third place.
The Nerdy Velociraptor Cookie Dragons were keeping pace, and then in the six round, the two years of Italian that they took in high school finally came in handy, as they were able to translate all ten answers, with the authority to use a double or nothing. They hit all the answers and jumped into second place, and held that slot for the rest of the game.
The Nerdy Velociraptor Cookie Dragons also captured our Beer Round, where we asked all teams to act as travel guides, and give us a brochure for a place we should visit, as well the top three tourist attractions. (The location could be fictional.) The team that sold us the most, would win the beer.
The winning location was "Coolen Placen" - that boasted a populous the consisted of only dogs, and live dinosaurs that were safe.
Some other popular locations:
Pickle Rick! wanted us to go to Mars so that we can see Matt Damon's potatoes. (Think about it.)
Team, Is That Me Beer, wanted us to go to Dublin, so that we could drink real Guinness and whisky with Bono.
The Moops trolled us, by wanting us to go to Philly, where the Super Bowl chances "Came and Wentz."
Lastly, and interestingly, the Indifferent Penguins wanted us to go to the state of Kerala in India - where the main attraction is temples that have statues depicting/explaining what could best be described as "Sensual Yoga."
We hope to see you all next week. See you then!

We were back in action at Longship Brewery after a week off to celebrate the New Year. We were happy to have everyone come out for the 2018 kick off event. Even though it was a rare rainy day in San Diego, a number of teams still came out and took shelter from the storm in the Longship harbor.
The rain served as the theme for our beer round question, where we asked: If one inch of rain fell on one square acre of land, how much would all the rain weigh? The answer: 226,000 pounds. The winners - Irish Wristwatch! They were the closest without going over at 1,000 lbs.
We also had a King Trivia at Longship record (we think) tonight, where one team got a perfect ten out of ten in the final round. The Indifferent Penguins correctly named the top ten most valuable MLB franchises, which was quite impressive. They also won the game this week:
1st: Indifferent Penguins
2nd: The Moops
3rd: Pickle Rick!!
We hope to see everyone back next week!
