What a great game for F logos (did y'all notice my sound equipment?), Spike Lee (thank God no one actually put Stan Lee, IAN), and delicious book titles! Tonight's teams were pretty evenly matched -- the winning teams were determined by knowing how and when to appropriately check that "Double or Nothing" Box.

Half of Beach Please! was here playing for the first time. Their strategy on doubling down was "We're in last place, we've got nothing to lose." And guys, honestly, that is NOT that bad of an outlook on things sometimes! Kudos to them for sticking it out and having a wicked sense of humor along the way.

We were down one Mr. Meeseeks until the very last few minutes of Round 7. I promised they'd do okay regardless, and lo! they were rewarded with $10 to TGIF.

Ethel and the Mermen and Brochachos & Chas were tied for the win in Round 6. Those sneaky Brochachos got one more top grossing movie than Ethel, AND they gave themselves an extra nudge ahead by remembering to return their pen.

Most of our regular teams returned from a safe New Year's Eve, some regulars were still nursing that hangover, I'm sure, and some new teams decided their New Year resolution was to learn something new every day -- let King Trivia help you out with that!

Most teams knew their cereal and "fake news" headlines, but there was a bit of a struggle with French territories and H.G. Wells fun facts.

Both Master Debators and The Starry Knights had a couple opportunities to double down correctly, but didn't take them. It ended up working out in The Starry Knights' favor, as they went home with $30, leaving Master Debators with a failed hail mary double down -- at least they got to take home a $10 gift card for their valiant efforts!

This left Lieutenant Dan's Legs with a surprise $20 win, which came after a free appetizer/dessert coupon for besting Meeseeks and Destroy in a relatively long game of High/Low. I guess they prove that not showing up to King Trivia on a regular basis doesn't give anyone an excuse to be rusty. *Forrest Gump voice* HAPPY NEW YEAR, LIEUTENANT DAN!

QUIZ RECAP

King Trivia teams were NOT messing around today -- both Meeseeks and Destroy/The Mango Pancakes and Ruben and the Jets brought reinforcements to maximize their chances of scoring big. Ruben and the Jets ended up leaving everyone in the dust, during the free appetizer/dessert round, even defeating the house! Yes, in a TGI Fridays first, a couple servers decided, "TGIF*IT" and also joined in to try their luck for free food, but were ultimately bested by the trivia gurus.

Don't Suck went all in as a last ditch effort to take first place away from Ruben and the Jets by doubling down on that beefy Round 7. The end result was a third place win for Don't Suck (but still guaranteed entry to the Tournament of Champions), and a surprise second place win for Master Debators, who struggled with Michelle Pfeiffer connections and Best Original Song nominees.
