Another busy night with four new teams joining in! And a good thing too, since "Mac"s, Chicago Bulls, ocean fish, and fictional killers were much easier to tackle than last week's questions.
JT and OIA Eagle ducked out early, but had loads of fun giving King Trivia a shot while watching the game. It was a rough night for Let The Wookie Win, Socal I, and I Don't Have A Racist Bonespur In My Body, who have seen better Thursdays, but will do better next week, I'm sure. Brown Eyed Girls and The Duke Silver Backing Band tied for fifth place, with newcomers Fjord Crew not too far behind them.
Two Roses came close, but couldn't touch Girl's Club, who used their womanly prowess to snag $10 off their bill AND a free appetizer/dessert coupon to TGI Fridays. After chickening out on a double down in Round 2, Brochachos & Chas had the cajones to redeem themselves in Round 6, taking $20 off their bill. Meeseeks and Destroy brought the whole crew in to score $30 off their bill, and it was well worth the coordination.
What a great trivia crowd you all were -- the biggest TGI Fridays has seen yet!
We got some serious stumpers, though -- only four teams knew Garfield had more than three characters, and only one team knew who they all were (good for you, Meeseeks and Destroy!). Only one team figured out the "Chuck" connection, even if they didn't know all the answers (here's looking at you, Let The Wookie Win!).
SoCal I got a free appetizer/dessert coupon (at the last minute!) for taking the closest wild guess about the number I had written in my hand. And even with losing out on tonight's Guess Who and failing to double down on general knowledge and "Towering Achievements," they still came in third! Meeseeks & Destroy failed to double down on their "Dine and Dash" round, so all the credit goes to Garfield and friends for giving them second place! That meant all Brochachos & Chas needed was a Dine-and-Dash-Double-Down and to do pretty okay on Keri Russell, "Chuck" connections, and architectural styles to get first place!
Wow, was tonight exciting! The Angels won by a landslide, but we weren't so sure who was going to take home TGIF gift cards -- so many teams came so close to victory!
Everyone struggled with figuring out the "failing" New York Times, and were a little surprised at just how many Beatles songs had the word "day" somewhere in the title. But you all rocked your general knowledge, shades of red, and comedian films, so it wasn't too bad of a night, question-wise. Your Quizmaster was also surprised to see her outfit perfectly complemented the "It's a Beefy World" round!
We started off with a four-way tie for first, with only The Duke Silver Backing Band trailing behind by one point. They quickly shot towards the front of the pack with Meeseeks and Destroy, both teams successfully doubling down on their superhero partners. They remained almost neck-in-neck throughout the entire game, with The Duke Silver Backing Band just barely ahead by a thread. They started sweating bullets when they forgot to return their pen with Round 7, sending them into a tiebreaker round against Meeseeks. But someone in Duke Silver was clearly a Dominos lover, as they nailed the number of calories in a garlic sauce cup right on the nose! So ultimately, they had to put in more effort to win than was necessary, but it all worked out in the end. Phew!
Meeseeks and Destroy went home with second place AND a free appetizer/dessert coupon for having the best clean joke: "What did the grape do when it got stepped on? It let out a little 'whine.'"
Let The Wookie Win and Brochachos and Chas were also really duking it out for the third place prize. Let The Wookie Win did NOT forget to turn their pen in, so they won by one point, leaving Brochachos to sit and try to figure out where it all went wrong ("Thursday," maybe?).
Have a great 4th of July holiday -- I'll see you all back at TGIF on July 11th!
