Recognized several faces, reminisced about the faces that took the week off, and was happy to see some new faces. But to Quizmaster-in-Training Jerry, every face was a new face! Which meant when he judged the free appetizer/dessert round, there was absolutely NO bias when Brochachos & Chas drew the best picture of him!
Fab 5, Liz, Tuesday Night Karaoke, and Islas all tried their hand at King Trivia for the first time, and the fun levels were high in spite of the low scores. You're all winners for taking a stab at four rounds [at least]!
Meeseeks and Destroy very narrowly missed opportunities to double down, but they still took home the bronze. Girl's Club SHOULD have come in third place, but the two Starbucks employees on the team didn't remember the Guess What? company they work for was founded in 1971, or that the name was shared with a "Moby Dick" character. The Starbucks new hire got a free pass, but the veteran got SHAMED. (:
Elephancy Clowns took the lead early on with a mellow yellow double down, but if they wanted to defeat the Pennsylvania sports-loving Brochachos & Chas, they should have also doubled down on their cars and roaring 20's (and probably not have blown tonight's Guess What?). But better to go home second than go home with nothing at all, I suppose...
It was a bit of a quieter night than usual, but was so very happy to see the old and new faces that came out to play.
SoCal I started off strong, but two failed double-downs kicked them back to fifth place. Because they were the only team that had any familiarity with Baltic Sea shorelines, they ALMOST would have tied for first with Crystal Balls, if they hadn't mixed up Latvia and Norway. Fortunately for Crystal Balls, theirs were working, and they knew exactly what they needed to keep the first place ranking.
Scores between Meeseeks and Destroy, Let The Wookie Win, and Girl's Club were neck-in-neck -- all teams knew equally as much as their competition on all rounds except Baltic Sea shorelines. They had to work really hard to come up with the most correct countries AND remember to turn that pen in for an extra bonus point, which finally broke the close tie between all three.
It was a chill night at TGI Friday's this week with only 7 teams entering for the 1st place title. Nevertheless we still had an awesome time and answered some cool questions. Two new teams joined us tonight, Boss Goals and Zucchini, which was very exciting and they were welcomed with open arms. However, after an excellent start and an unbelievable winning streak it turns out, Boss Goals did not pay attention to the "NO PHONE" rule at the beginning of the game and had a majority of their points taken off.
We shook it up in the appetizer round and separated the true Potterheads from the muggles with this "Harry Potter" based round. Meeseeks & Destroy turned out to be the true die hards, snatching a free dessert/appetizer coupon.
The teams were so close that third place came down to Girl's Club and Socal & I. After a tie breaker, Socal and I took the third place title with 43 points, accepting ten dollars off their bill. Brochachos & Chas snatched second place with 44 points, taking twenty dollars off their bill. And for the second week in a row, Meeseeks & Destroy snagged the crown and throne with 48, taking a total of thirty points off their bill and a promise we would see them again next week.
