QUIZ RECAP

Despite the rain, despite the cold, and despite the crushing loss of the Rams, the faithful players at Hyperion Public still came to give their very best at trivia Monday night. The once dominant Little Lebowski's Urban Achievers seemed to have fractured and split in twain, now with PhDeez Nuts carrying the first place torch and Slaughter Maroon 5 following close behind in their footsteps. Sure, it's discouraging to everyone else in the bar that what was once a single team is now the two teams dominating the top spots, but that just means they all have to try a little harder, doesn't it?

As for the drinking round, the teams were instructed to write haikus tangentially related to the Superbowl, and I picked my favorites. Here's third place by The L Word Reboot:

And first place goes to an incredibly dark but remarkably well metered haiku, courtesy of The Crescent Rolls:

Encephalopathy means

You lose who you are.

Arguably the most poignant haiku I've ever read, and certainly deserving of first place, despite the fact that it forced the room to fall silent upon reading it. Cheers to you, Crescent Rolls!

QUIZ RECAP

Another Monday, another night of trivia at our favorite Silver Lake haunt, Hyperion Public. It was a busy night, but luckily I had my trusty assistant Madeline with me to keep the dogs at bay (Madeline is a 7 year old and she's tough as nails). Madeline made time announcements, she passed out handouts, and she handed over the winning gift certificates. If every trivia host could have their own Madeline to keep them organized and sane, the world would be a better place. And sure, teams won and people drank, but let's not forget that a child was the coolest person in the bar last night. By a long shot.
