They said it couldn’t be done. They told us it was too crazy, too risky, too slapdash to actually pull off. But the trivia titans of Idle Hour know no such fears. Despite 90+ degree temperatures, they braved the scorching heat to attempt the impossible: King Trivia! That’s right, it’s Tuesday in NoHo, so you know there is only one place to be!

29 teams arrived into the bubbling barrel-shaped cauldron for some intense quizzical action, and we delivered as only Idle Hour knows how. 

Round One saw the usual tie, but only three teams were brave enough to throw out that first double: Baby Geniuses 3, Diana Spencer’s Gifts, and Vandalay Industries. 

Round Two proved a bit more challenging, allowing Baby Geniuses 3 to sneak into the lead. Quiz Kid Donnie Smith took their deserved position in 2nd, and 3rd was tied with Sloppy Tots Maverick and Bad News Care Bears. 

Baby Geniuses were able to hold their lead moving into the second half of the show as we paused play to have a quick drinking round and celebrate this nation’s Vice Presidents! Box Unchecked won a tight tie-breaker to earn free shots for the table!

Round Five brought out the fighting spirit, and suddenly Bad News Care Bears advanced into second place, followed by a feisty Sloppy Tots Maverick. With only a few rounds left, who would be able to toppled the unmatched Baby Geniuses?

As it turns out, neither of those teams had the itch, because Diana Spencer’s Gifts came out of nowhere to steal the lead with only one round to go!

With everything on the line, our champions went into the final round. But who could possibly emerge victorious? Who would best these executors of examination?

When the smoke cleared, Diana Spencer’s Gifts stood tall, followed by Vandalay Industries and Bad News Care Bears.

QUIZ RECAP

Another scorcher keeping the hot streak alive in NoHo…which worked perfectly as Idle Hour was running a hot streak for the BIGGEST TRIVIA SHOW IN TOWN! That’s right, you question-hungry kiddos. It was another great Tuesday night for King Trivia!

31 teams arrived, swathed in fanciful colors to denote their allegiances and kingdoms, prepared to do battle upon the barrel-shaped field. But only 3 could emerge from our tournament victorious…so who would it be?

While Round One ended with the usual massive tie of teams, Round Two ended with Algorithm and Blues jumping ahead of the pack with a clutch double. Second and Third place were tied up, with teams fighting for their spot on the leaderboard. After stuffing yet another team into the corner, we continued the show. 

Rounds Three and Four went fast and furious, with our leaderboard remaining tight at the top. Snark Squad took over second and held on tight, with Baby Geniuses 3 emerging into 3rd before the half. 

With the heat still beating down, we took a break for a drinking round. For National Ice Cream Sandwich Day, we challenged our teams with history and finance questions about the summertime treat. Emergency Food Birthday Cake Edition, celebrating an actual factual birthday, earned the right to some free shots courtesy of our amazing hosts!

While Round Five went by without much issues (aside from one team miraculously calling the connection after one question), Round Six saw a major shakeup on the leaderboard as Trivia Munn took second and Kingbeez jumped into third! With mere points between the top ten and victory, it was time for a final showdown. 

When the answers finally rolled in and “Final Countdown” ended, it was time to tally the scores and elect a true winner…after a quick Tie Breaker!

Algorithm and Blues took the grand prize, followed by Trivia Munn and Kingbeez! Snark Squad earned the coveted fourth place tin cup, while the rest of the teams left with new memories and bitter rivals.

80'S MOVIES VOL. 1 THEMED EVENT AT IDLE HOUR RECAP

A balmy Wednesday evening struck the Valley, and it was like stepping back in time…all the way to the 1980s. That’s right, you gnarly NoHo-ians. It’s time for a special King Trivia event at Idle Hour!

With 3 amazing prizes up for grabs, it was no surprise to see most of NoHo turn out in their flashiest slap bracelets and joggers. But who had eaten the right Breakfast Club to give them the Weird Science they’d need to be the Top Gun? Who was ready to bless some rains down in Africa? Only the challenge of trivia could divide the winners from the posers. 

Round One of course left a massive tie at the top, as these were no squares. They knew their general knowledge well enough, but what about kids’ movies?

Round Two witnessed the rise of two trivia titans: Addicted to Love and Brindsay. Would their doubles be enough to keep them from the rest of the pack?

In fact, they would! Following Round Four, Brindsay had stepped into the lead by just a few points! With things heating up so much, we were in desperate need of a drinking game. 

During our Drink Round, we asked a no holds barred question about the 1988 movie Bloodsport! With the best guess by just a hair, Breakfast Club took the free shots! 

Round Five saw the teams growing closer and closer together with only a few points separating our top ten teams. With two rounds to go, this was anybody’s game.

Round Six tasked our teams with combining 1980s movies with their locations; a tall ask, to be sure. When the dust settled, after a few technical issues, we sorted out the new leaders…The Shpeilbergs, Brindsay, and Addicted to Love! With mere points between them, it was time for as TENSE a round as we’ve ever seen!

However, it was the knowledge of 1980s directors that flipped the script entirely for our top tier teams. Brindsay ended up with the big win, followed by Addicted to Love and a fully powered Flux Capacitors!
