The winds were blowing and several drops of water (aka an LA downpour) splattered the barrel-shaped roof as a tournament of champions opened upon the trivial field of battle. With delicious food and satisfying libations flying around the room, it was the perfect atmosphere for a truly epic game of King Trivia!
18 teams arrived eager to continue the spooky season with some free candy (courtesy of this QM) and some challenging questions. Fortunately, we had both in spades.
Round One of course led to a massive 7-way tie, but our teams weren’t discouraged. It proved that these folks were ready to risk big to win big. But would that foolhardy nature serve them well…or bring their ruin?
Round Two was all about the much beloved 2010 video for “We Are The World.” You know the one. Two teams managed to leap ahead of the competition: Camp Mohawk and Cabot Cove’s Ghost!
Round Three saw Camp Mohawk shoot into first place, leaving the other teams scrambling a few points behind. While they were able to hold this lead after Round Four, Cabot Cove’s Ghost and Algorithm and Blues collided in a tie at second place. It was heading toward a powerful brawl for the top spots!
For our Drinking Round, we asked the teams for advice on what costume this QM should wear. While there were AMAZING suggestions, we are nothing if not a sucker for wordplay, which is why we award Algorithm and Blues for their suggestion of Norma Jean Val Jean!
Round Five forced our teams to think about their childhood, all the way back to the first books they might have read. Campy Mohawk maintained position while Cabot Cove rose a few points ahead. With little time left, could anyone unseat these champions?
Round Six was all about the heroes and villains of comic book movies, which should have been a snap! With some impressive doubles, we saw the scores…not change at all, as everyone moved up together. It would all come down to the final few questions.
Round Seven was all about rap artists and telecommunications…totally normal stuff, you know. It pushed our champions to the limit of their trivia knowledge.
After a nail-biting tie-breaker, we crowned our winners for the evening: Camp Mohawk, Algorithm and Blues, and Cabot Cove’s Ghost!

G’mar chatima tova! It’s Erev Yom Kippur, a time of atonement and judgement…and apparently TRIVIA! That’s right, Idle Hour was popping off as teams descended on our barrel-shaped temple to pay homage to the lord of lessons…King Trivia.
20 teams arrived hungry for knowledge (and perhaps some of Idle Hour’s famous burgers) and the game soon began. With a light breeze breaking the “Fall” heat, the stage was set for an epic showdown.
Round One was a shocker as only one team managed to snag all the answers and drop a double. Kingbeez started the show with a big lead, followed by Emergency Food: Monsters Unleashed.
Round Two had our heroes searching through their memory banks for famous monsters. This was a little easier, maybe to lull our teams into a false sense of security. This led to a leaderboard shake up as Emergency Food took the top spot and a quartet of teams leapt ahead of Kingbeez!
Round Three focused on a collection of crimsons, and our teams did not disappoint in their ferocious answers. In another shock to the system, Mighty Mighty Puffins took over the first place position while Emergency Food and Set locked into a tie behind them. This leaderboard persisted through Round Four as well as too few teams knew the villain of Theranos (but had it been Thanos, they would have been all over it).
For our drinking round, we celebrated National Cinnamon Bun Day by counting our calories. Emergency Food, with an impressive guess, earned the free shots and perhaps a little cinnamon treat of their own.
Round Five had our champions thinking about money, but would that be too much of a distraction for them to stay on track? Puffins maintained their lead, followed by the rising tides of Hulk Hogan’s Pastamania and North X North East Coast!
Round Six kept things pretty simple for our teams as scores tightened and anxiety flared. Something Punny exercised their 1st amendment right to knocked North X out of third and took over the spot, leading to a bitter rivalry that would fuel the fires of the final round.
In Round Seven, we asked our contestants to think about Britney, B***h. It was a musical malady that pushed their brains to the limit. It was going to be a photo finish to crown the winners!
As the dust cleared, we crowned our champions: Mighty Mighty Puffins, Hulk Hogan’s Pastamania, and (in a surprise return) Emergency Food: Monsters Unleashed.

As the heat returned to the Valley, so did America’s favorite trivia show. That’s right, loyal readers, this barrel-shaped paradise was once again hopping with quizzical questers and champions of challenges. It’s King Trivia at Idle Hour!
25 teams packed the house to show their support for local bars, delicious food, and flop-sweating quizmasters. With three prizes and a bucket of candy in hand, the show began with aplomb.
Round One ended in our normal tie, but with nearly a third of the teams represented! It was an opening bout that would set the tone for a bout of legendary proportions. We’re talking Rumble in the Jungle. We’re talking Vader versus Luke. We’re talking King Trivia, baby.
Rond Two whittled down the competition slightly, but still held a 4-strong tie at the top: Daisy’a Dukes, The Rise of the Quizantine Empire, Win or Booze, and Seriously Silly Goose.
Round Three and four split the top teams into two groups, with Daisy and Goose taking the top spots and Empire and Booze falling behind.
Our drinking round challenged the teams to discern in what year human beings could possibly have enjoyed a glass of chocolate milk (as we were celebrating National Chocolate the Milk Day). With the closest guess by far, 720 of Emotions took the free shots!
Round Five turned out to be a bit of a stumper, but our intrepid heroes weren’t about to let a little adversity get in between them and the amazing prizes on offer. With a bit of gumption and more than a little guesswork, they persevered. We had a first, as we exited Found Five with more leaders than we arrived: Daisy’a Dukes, The Rise of the Quizantine Empire, Win or Booze, Seriously Silly Goose. and Tequila Tots!
Round Six was a fairly easy bit of US geography (at according to some). After only a few minutes of play, we managed to separate our leaderboard. Seriously Silly Goose managed to take over the top spot, tied with newbies Little Buff Bois!
As the final seconds drained from the hourglass, we called an end to our competition. Round Seven caused both elation and anxiety, but proved a worthy sorting mechanism for our leaders. Still…a TIEBREAKER WAS DEMANDED!
Our final winners were Little Buff Bois, Seriously Silly Goose, and Daisy’a Dukes!
