It’s a ME. King Trivia!
Welcome to a very special edition of the greatest quiz show on Earth. Or should we say, the greatest quiz show in the entire Mushroom Kingdom! That’s right, the monarch of mystery has taken the show through a giant green pipe and into the world of Super Mario.
23 teams warped in to collect 100 coins, consume some mushrooms, and defeat the tyrannical lizard kings (Editor’s Note: King Trivia has released no comment regarding the political situation in the Mushroom Kingdom).
Round One warmed up the teams’ trivia muscles and prepared them for the epic war to come. Ten teams held a tie for first place, but all that would change quickly.
Round Two immediately separated those teams that had prepared for this game with those that had not. Emergency Food: None Pizza, Left Mushroom, The Koopalings, The Bleeding Birdos, and Hot Diggity Dogs took a tie for first, beginning a bitter rivalry that would carry to the end of the game.
Round Three was a theme round within a theme show, a turducken of trivial mastery. Emergency Food and Hot Diggity Dogs locked horns in first.
Round Four saw the top spot hold position, with Bleeding Birdos and Koopalings in a tight second.
For our Drinking Round, we paid homage to the original live action Mario, Lou Albano. With a tie-breaker win, Third Mario Brother earned the free shots.
As this was a competition with some iconic characters at the center, we held a Voice Acting competition to see which team could do the best impression of these legends of the 8-bit cartridge. While we crowned many winners, it was IDK that took home the coveted “best Mario” award.
Our leaderboard remained nearly unchanged through the latter half of the show, though Bowser’s Bitches and Bob-omb’s Burgers both made bids for the third place trophy. In the end, it took a tie-breaker to settle the score and award the big prizes.
We crowned Hot Diggity Dogs as our grand champion, followed by Emergency Food: None Pizza, Left Mushroom and Bleeding Birdos.

Happy Fat Tuesday, peasants of the trivia kingdom! The crowds were out in force for some brilliant revelry, but they didn’t want colorful cakes or fancy beads. They wanted KING TRIVIA!
28 teams assembled in our NoHo paradise to battle in the most sophisticated of ways: With cold beers, delicious burgers, and a near-manic host.
Round One was an easy warm-up, allowing some newbie teams to flex their creative muscles. We of course ended with a massive ten-way tie, but this wasn’t bound to be a normal day at the racetrack.
Round Two was a boon for followers of that shady foot-based website, as we asked our teams to analyze pictures of famous feet (in shoes, calm down). Quiz Kid Donnie Smith jumped into an early lead, followed closely by Murder Hornets.
Round Three was filled with sax and violins, but no change to our top spots. Third place, however, whittled down to just two: Sugundies and Move Over Jay-Z, it’s Gay-Z.
Round Four again didn’t move the needle much, but Sugundies was able to secure the third spot all alone. Perhaps a nice drinking round and some fancy beads could give this show the shake up it craved.
Our Drinking Round had our teams showing off their best costumes, masks, and bead pics (SFW only). Girls Trip absolutely crushed the competition by dressing up AS the AMC Burbank and Nicole Kidman. Heartbreak truly felt good in a place like this.
We also awarded our final QM Valentine to Heat Lamp for what has to be the saddest Valentine’s Day story we’ve ever heard. It’s the sort of thing a country music star would write a hit song about. The music video would feature keyed cars and probably an exploded RV.
Round Five was a real shock as Downtown Sasquatch snatched the lead away from Quiz Kid, followed by Curse the Gods and Montana in a tied second.
Round Six was another shocker as Curse the Gods and Montana took first place with a tie. Who would finally win the lead!
Round Seven asked the most important question of all: in an age of streaming EVERYTHING, who’s still going to libraries? (The answer? Smart people. Go support your local library).
We finally crowned our winners after a photo finish. Montana, Curse the Gods, and Bean Bag!

Valentine’s Day is for the lovers, but tonight it became a battlefield for the precocious paramours of questions and answers. That’s right, the monarch of mystery descended on Idle Hour for a special Love Day evening of KING TRIVIA!
25 teams gathered in couples, thruples, and groups so numerous they begot new terms of polyamory. Each arrived with only one goal in mind: Total Victory!
Round One warmed up their quizzical muscles with some easy questions (although we all learned something about the proper Greek name for Cupid). A massive tie left many wondering who could rise to the top of this trivia triangle.
Round Two was a boon for our celebrity-aware crowd. However, no one was keen to drop another double, so we ended with a three-way tie: Ladies Who Lunch, It was the best of times, it was the worst of Tim, and Drunk in Public!
Round Three had us all singing “Baby Shark” (much to the chagrin of the staff). Best of Tim took the early lead and hoped to hold out through the rest of the show.
Round Four seemed to be a gift to our Philosophy majors in the house, as Hooligans snuck in to grab the title away from Tim.
For Valentine’s Day, we asked our teams to express a little self love and give us the best pickup line they would use…on themselves. Emergency Food delivered perhaps the strangest combination of confidence and prop work with, “What’s your sign? I’m a spicies.” And then they handed me a cup of tobacco sauce.
For our Drinking Round, we asked our teams which English poet is credited with inventing Valentine’s Day. English majors The Weiners had the answer in their back pocket and took the free shots!
Round Five had our teams stretching into position as they tried to find the connection between some rather odd answers. Best of Tim jumped back into the lead, with Drunk in Public only a point behind.
Round Six proved that our teams watch a little too much celebrity gossip, but it meant that our leader board remained unchanged going into the final showdown.
Round Seven proved one thing more than anything else: Some of our players are too young to know America’s sweetheart, Meg Ryan. They were throwing out movies that features any blonde actress. However, a few managed to eke out a point in the end.
As the dust settled, we crowned our Valentine’s Day winners: Drunk in Public, It was the best of times, it was the worst of Tim, and The Hooligans!
