Last night's King Trivia Pub Quiz at the old L&C was subdued,
sublime and strange. Ever have one of those weird evenings
when curious coincidences seem to converge, comingle and then
move on? Well, as Quiz Master Lou pulled up outside of the pub
the song blaring out of his playlist was Earth, Wind and Fire's
That's the Way of the World. Exit the vehicle, unload gear,
and as I'm making my way across the street, the Watter's Creek
PA Muzak starts playing the same song! This, in conjunction
with the fact that one of the pairings on this evening's Round
Six Handout questions is to match bassist Verdine White with
the above mentioned band! Oh, and to add peculiarity to
strangeness, it was a full moon! Add it all up and what does
it mean?!? (Shrug) I guess that really is the way of the
world sometimes...
Newbies Team Oh Gawd got buffeted a bit as they ventured into
the harsh waters of KTPQ for the first time. By game's end they
were finally getting the hang of it. But we admire them for
their pluck though they ended up in fourth place. Pickles on
a Plate started off strong in the lead but eventually slid to a
third place finish. Last week's big winner, Velvet Hammered,
came in second place this time, still proving that one man can
make a difference. Bar Guys came out on top with a strong,
steady pace coupled with a strategic Double-or-Nothing.
Some mirth was had at the expense of some of our Quiz Questions.
There's no planet in our solar system named A Midsummer Night's
Dream, but characters from this comedy, when described as "moons
of Uranus" take on a whole different complexion. Round Three's
UFO theme was right up QM Lou's alley (being a card carrying
member of the Foil Hat Brigade). The rest was an old West gun
fighter, pizza, basketball and X-Men. Until next week amigos,
watch the skies! It might not be a full moon shining on you!
Last night's King Trivia Pub Quiz at the Lion & Crown in Allen
was just like old times! Eight teams competed for prizes at the
old pub in a spirit of memorabilia not seen since the summer of
2019 PC (Pre-Covid).
Regulars Pickles on a Plate, Bar Guy and Jarvis had a tough
time against newbies What's A Good Group Name?, Team Captain
Awesome, Jenda, Velvet Hammered and Bumbling Idiots. Soloist
Velvet Hammered, who, despite the apparent loss of brain cells
to alcohol ratio, still managed to take home first place with a
strategic Double-or-Nothing in the last round! In fact, second
and third placers Jenda and WaGGN? respectively, also engineered
the exact same feat! Miraculous, wasn't it?!? Particularly as
the question set for that round required knowledge of the
Kardashian offspring AND U.S. State representation! Wow!
Speaking of question sets, a tip of the helmet to our quiz
writers yet once again for another tantalizing test of trivia.
Some tricky queries led a few souls to the wrong green, but
that's par for the course. The Picture Round was especially
treacherous with having to identify children's books from their
illustrations. The classics fared better than the newer tales
as their pictures were reminiscent of the classics anyway! BFG
got terribly mistaken for Thumbelina. I mean, what were you
thinking, Quentin Blake?!? Or could it be that the clever
manipulation of images by deceptive quiz writers can deep fake
us sheeple masses? Most of us will never know...
Until next time, QM Lou says, "Watch the skies for a warning!"
I don't really know why I say that, but I say it anyway. Bye
for now!

Hey, ho trivia fans! Another successful night of the pub quiz
was had over at the Lion & Crown in Watter's Creek. Quiz Master
Lou presided over another of King Trivia's provincial courts with
four teams in attendance.
Regulars Ship It! and the long absent Jarvis returned to the
open arms of the quiz while newbies The Rosses and a group
styling themselves Six Chicks and a D*ck (hereafter referred to
in this column as SC&aD) dove into the heady waters of the KTPQ
challenge for the first time.
The Rosses started off strong but took a dive mid game when a
wrong guess in the Guess Who Round yielded a zero score and set
them behind. Seeing the writing on the proverbial wall, they
left the field early. One might say they lost the war of the
Rosses... Jarvis got in on the action half way through Round
One and managed a nice third place while Ship It! took second
position honors. The big surprise of the evening came when SC&aD
zoomed into first place when they started with goose egg. Well
done you rowdy bunch! And uh, in future, change your team name.
You tasked Quiz Master Lou who had to come up with a new metaphor each time he announced your score!
Our quiz writers came up with yet another smashing puzzler this
week with one small exception. Our Guess Who Round set of clues
could have had a little more infamy. Bill Gates' after all has
a dark side you know. Anti-Trust lawsuit? A bad vaccine trial
in India? A micro-chip for human implantation with the patent
number 666? You gotta take the bad with the good, you know.
See you next week G-d willing! QML signing off.
