QUIZ RECAP

The atmosphere at the Lion & Crown this Thursday was a little bit more sedate than usual.  Perhaps the destruction of Hurricane Harvey in the southern part of our state was responsible.  Though a few hundred miles north of the real devastation, even here in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area, the pain was keenly felt.  Long lines at the gas pumps and shortages started today as some Texas refineries in Houston were affected by the floods. 

Even so, the usual roster of teams showed up to play.  I believe King Trivia Pub Quiz provided an escape for local denizens to forget the trials and tribulations of everyday life for a couple of hours.  I know it did because I talk to all of our players and everybody laughed and smiled last night.  Afterwards, I had a good chin wag with team Stealth Texas.  We chatted about the late, great Sci-Fi/Fantasy author Ray Bradbury of all things.  As Quizmaster, I believe it’s important to do more than just run the game.  You’ve got to make it a personal experience.  It is interesting how an event at a pub can bring people together.  King Trivia Pub Quiz provides the opportunity to do that. 

QUIZ RECAP

Questions!  I’ve got questions!  What does it mean when virtually all of the customers in the pub have come to play King Trivia Pub Quiz?!?  What does it mean when they throw things at you for giving them the answers?!?  What does it mean when they don’t know C. S. Lewis’ name, but they know who Harry Styles is?!?  What does it mean?!?  Does it matter what it means?  Maybe.  Maybe not. 

 What does matter is that everyone had tons-o-fun at the Lion & Crown Thursday night.  And a raucous time it was.  Local champs the Ninja Turtles got knocked down to second place when returning team Porcupinions grabbed first place.  The absurdity of watching the traffic jam at the pub entrance as these competitors brought in their 400 pound brains in wheel barrows was not lost on this Quizmaster, I can tell you!  And, you should have heard the commotion when it was announced that there was a three way tie between Pickles on a Plate, Beer Logic and the Shredder Squad (formerly known as “Teachers on Vacay”) for third place!  Pickles got it, by the way… 

And last but not least, I got to torture my teams with tinnitus, tooting out tunes for the Elvis round!  Ahh…  I love my gig.  Until next week, I remain, as always, loyally…  Yours! 

QUIZ RECAP

Folks sometimes just don’t believe me when I say, “Register your team tonight for those two extra points!”  And then they start playing and realize they are exactly two points from a tie with first place!  Quizmaster Lou has spoken… 

 Quizmaster Lou also says, “Be sure to show up on time!”  No less than three people walked into the pub in the middle of the game and were so excited, they demanded to play!  This prompted this Quizmaster to establish a new house rule, No More Teams May Be Added to the List after Round One has Passed.  However, never one to harsh someone else’s mellow, Quizmaster Lou gave them Quiz Booklets so they could play against themselves and test their knowledge.  This was a happy compromise and prompted some potential returns!   

 Another exciting evening of King Trivia Pub Quiz at the Lion & Crown Thursday night with a second place Tie Breaker!  Local champs Ninja Turtles took first place while Rogue One and Porkupinions duked it out for second, with Rogue One winning the Tie Breaker.  Teams Pickles on a Plate and Iffy were right behind them by one point!  Welcome to newcomers Endearingly Obnoxious who put up a good fight.
