Leave it to King Trivia Pub Quiz to come up with appropriate question sets for
March 14, the official International Pi Day. Because, 3.14 are the first set
of numbers for that irascible (or would that be irrational?) mathematical constant.
And too, Pi is also pie, and you can have a lot of fun with that because pie is
also a euphemism. Pies are round and Pi is the ratio of a circle, so no matter
where you go, there you are! (But let's not go around in 2's on this...)
Interestingly enough, Albert Einstein was born on 3.14 and he was someone who
probably knew a lot about Pi. Likewise Michael Caine, but I'd guesstimate it
was pie he knew about; And, while I'd ask Albert about Pi, I'd also ask Michael
about pie, because he was in The Man Who Would be King and probably cut open the
pie from which four and twenty black birds came, which is something else Michael
would know about because he was all over birds in the 60's. What's it All About,
Michael?
Now, as for Archimedes and Madhava-Leibenz, they dabbled in Pie while expounding
on Pi, but are better known for the Death Ray and practically unknown for the
rare but strange Curry-Schnitzel pie, respectively. How's that for symmetry
you say? Well, do your own research, damn it!
I could go on, but as the time-space continuum is curved, I will eventually
come back upon myself, so I already have! So until next week, have a piece
of pie until we meet again... w.e me.et a.gain... we m.eet ag.ai.n...
Anomaly is defined as an irregularity or disproportion. A deviation from the
norm. Quiz Master Lou believes that best describes the conditions of KTPQ as
it transpired last night at the Lion & Crown Public House in Allen. To begin
with, there were no newbie teams playing. There were some strangers, a group
of kids who came over from the sister L&C pub over in Addison who styled
themselves We Did Not Decide Yet, but from the size of their team number it was
obvious they had played before.
Then came the Picture Round fumbles, Corsets and Wigs. As many people mistook
Sally Field for Queen Victoria as they did for Mary Todd Lincoln while Colette
got the most (and funniest) wrong guesses with Mary Poppius Returns, Victor-
Victoria and Back to the Future 3! But the biggest anomaly of the evening
came in Round Three, when question 6 posited, "What NBA mascot had a film
appearance during the end credits of Rocky Balboa?" Well, Phillie Phanatic,
who does appear and is the answer is a MLB mascot, not a basketball one. This
prompted a first in Quiz Master Lou's career. All Round 3 ballots were handed
back to their teams for an alternate question! Such was the furor. Finally,
slipping a battle from Game of Thrones into Round Six is like including King
Lear in Shakespeare's Histories. Big anomaly, there! I guess that's why one
team offered these answers...
Battle of Shiloh: Infinity War
Battle of Somme: Star Wars
Siege of Yorktown: God of War
Battle of New Orleans: War of the Worlds
You get the picture... Until next time my anomalous friends!
Big crowd at the Lion & Crown last night. King Trivia must be getting
popular because each week this quiz master has noted an increase in the
number of newbies that sign up. This time we had new comers the Hounds,
DOGGOS (what ever that is), Velvet Hammered (nice), and Witten Wisdom.
All four dropped before the end of the game. I guess you can come swim
in our ocean, but you better prepare to cohabitate with sharks.
Speaking of sea life, Pink River Dolphins got mistaken for Pink Porpoise
by more than one team. (It's the alliteration.) In addition to competitive
play, an uninformed patron shouted out an answer last night, to which Quiz
Master Lou had to promptly disqualify a question, which rained "boos" down
upon the unlucky interloper. Quiz Master Lou felt like Marc Antony at
Caesar's eulogy. Speaking of Marc Antony, a lot of people should see the
1963 Cleopatra, then read Plutarch. Just because.
Last night's quiz brought the funniest wrong answer from our favorite
senior team, IFFY!, whose rejoinder to the Round Seven Mario Kart series
challenge was, "We were busy earning a living!" Style points for those
folks, yes indeed.
That's about it. The pictures are up, the scores are down. KTPQ's a
wonderful town! See ya next week!
