KTPQ action at the Lion & Crown in Allen last night was... Well, actionable.
The Ninja Turtles calmly collected a first place position in round one by a
judicious Double-or-Nothing and proceeded to hang onto it all the way to the
end, where, unnecessarily doubling in the last round seven for an incredible
high score of 74! Twelve points above the second place position! Talk about
symmetry... Resident champs. With authority.
Beer Logic has been coming into its own as of late, capturing the second position
with solid 62 points. And Street Smarts advanced into third with 48 points.
Nice going all around. On the low end, local contenders Binge Thinking binged
their way into last place with reckless abandon by doubling in five out of seven
rounds. This put them even below an unregistered, newbie team calling themselves
S&M, who bailed out of the pub after round four. I guess they could dish it out,
but they couldn't take it, huh? Funnily enough, QM Lou had a couple of teams in
last year, all women incidentally; One took the same moniker of S&M while the other
fancied themselves the T&A's. Was sort of hoping they'd come back on the same night...
In the cosmic coinky dink department, we had an I.M. Pei question in the General
Knowledge round last night. Came home to discover the old fellow had passed away
at the ripe old age of 102. In other quiz news, QM Lou warns don't eat VooDoo
doughnuts or you'll go to hell. VooDoo? You do! Do what? Eat doughnuts!
That's all the news that fits! Until next week, I remain, loyally yours...
Quiz Master Lou's Spotlight on the Teams! An interview of sorts, I passed out a short questionnaire (5 questions) to each team to find out a little bit about them. Here are the results...
This week's spotlight is on: IFFY!
Team Captain(If there is one): All Others (by specialty if applicable):
Declined to state...
How did your team get its name and what does it mean?
Tom used this name thirty years ago at T.G.I.F. trivia in Columbus, OH. He made us use it!
What is your favorite (or top favorites) Round in the King Trivia Pub Quiz? (General Knowledge, Picture Round, Theme Round, Guess Who?, Find-the-Connection, Hand-Out or Round Seven) and why?
General Knowledge when it's knowledge needed for survival. Some of it is {censored}.
What was your most memorable moment during a King Trivia Pub Quiz?
When we finished in the money!
What, if any, are the benefits of playing trivia games in pubs?
Camaraderie with friends!
Is life pre-destined or do things just happen randomly? And; What changes would you like to see?
Kill religions and think for yourself!
Quiz Master Lou's Wrap-up:
I like cantankerous old folk. They're what keep us young whippersnappers in line. Quiz Master Lou is actually on the cusp of becoming an old folk himself, but on the other hand, I've never snapped a whipper in my entire life! (Well, there was that one time at a party in Beverly Hills... But, I digress.) Team IFFY! always plays hard, clean and to the end. Most importantly, they play for fun! Always cheerful, they are open and friendly with all the other teams. Quiz Master Lou feels they are more than just players, they are friends.
Have a great weekend, everybody!
Wow! Lots of fun and too much noise at the very packed and very loud Lion &
Crown in Allen last night. Three newbie teams, two of whom registered, and a
hearty welcome back to some friends we haven't seen in a while. Bitchin'
Team Name was suggested by Quiz Master Lou to the two young ladies who wanted
to play and advised them they needed a team name that was bitchin'. The G's
were simply the "G's" and simply ended up winning second place! BLS got in on
the action one round too late but enjoyed themselves anyway. It was great to
see Ready Player Fun (who aced the movie questions) and Dim Bulbs, who did not
place last (Uh, second last...) once again.
Team Bar Guy, lead amazingly by Sean, as Bar Guy team leader Rob was only
present for a short time, leapt into first place after a propelling Double-
or-Nothing in round six! Beer Logic reasoned themselves into a third place
win.
Nice Round Three movie questions from our quiz writers at HQ and a deceptive
Guess Where Round as well. Woe to those who pulled the trigger too soon on
that one! The flora of the Colosseum. I mean, really?!? The thing about round
four is, it gives QM Lou's alter ego an opportunity to pop out...
QML1: Instead of a Guess Who round tonight, we have a Guess Where round!
QML2: Guess Where?
QML1: Where Guess?
QML2: There guess!
QML1: There guess?
QML2: Yes!
QML1: Why am I talking this way?
QML2: I Thought I wanted to?
QML1: No.
QML2: Okay. I'm easy.
That's all the news that fits! Have a great weekend everybody!
