An incredible night at the Lion & Crown as the coveted First Place prize changed hands many times. New comers, the Bastard Barristers, rocked the house when they got every answer right in the first two rounds of play! They had just about every other team in the joint wondering, “Who the h*ll are these guys?!?” But then, IFFY! surprised everyone by going Double or Nothing in Round Two and leaping ahead of the pack with a comfortable furlong. Round Five saw resident champs Ninja Turtles reclaim their ranking and hold onto it for a victory by evening’s end. Regulars Ship It! snagged a well deserved Second Place while Blood, Bath & Beyond sprayed some viscera (metaphorically speaking) to nail the third prize.
And now, a few, choice words about alcohol fueled, non-player, loners who shout out answers in the middle of the game… “SHUT UP!” Thank you. Thank you very much.
With that, Quiz Master Lou would like to wish everyone a peaceful and happy week. Sometimes, the news seems worse than it really is, but remember the immortal words of Ambassador Londo Molari… “Whatever it is, it can’t be that bad!” Until next week, I remain, loyally yours…
With Halloween looming and the wind kicking up the Texas dust, it could have been a scary night at the Lion & Crown Pub Thursday night… But it was pretty laid back with a lot of laughter and fairly good diversity of trivia quizzes. (Although this Quizmaster would have liked to have seen a few more horror genre questions thrown into the mix for the occasion!)
Perhaps the greatest drama that befell the crowd was a near riot over the difference between banana and banana peel, but Quizmaster Lou managed to quiet the vociferous objectors if not assuage their hurt feelings.
And now, in King Trivia fashion, I will list our pub’s teams rankings as though it were a Round Six Quiz! Match the Team’s motto to the movie it is parodying.

It was a great night at the Lion and Crown this Thursday with the return of some old friends and the emergence of some new ones. Pickles on a Plate returned after a visit to the State Fair. (Those Fletcher’s Corn Dogs have an alluring quality that is unquantifiable!) Also back were Shredder Squad, Royal Flush and last week’s addition Blood, Bath & Beyond! Newcomers Men of Troy and Team Tinder made their mark as well.
It was an exciting evening of changing fortunes as first place ranking seemed to move around the pub one might say, almost indiscriminately. Regular champs Ninja Turtles started off in second place and had to fight throughout the night to gain an advantage. IFFY! took the lead in Round Four only to lose it again in the next round! Stealth Texas had the most ups and downs grabbing the lead in Round One, dropping to second, then third, only to sneak in with a Double or Nothing win in Round Seven!
All in all, it was a really fun evening with a strong effort from everyone, grabbing for that elusive winged victory with one hand while swatting at the specter of defeat with the other. Perhaps the most fun came when yours truly, Quizmaster Lou, fumfered his words trying to read out the score rankings between rounds, lost his place on the sheet and started repeating quiz questions! Not sure if the establishment needed to call 911, the bouncer or The Gong Show for that one! Until next week, I remain, yours.
