Another incredible night of King Trivia did abound at the Lion & Crown in Allen
last night with the gathering of the ten tribes, er teams. Although, given our
Round Seven motif of Jewish Holy cities and Super Bowl franchises, perhaps the
metaphor is apt. In any case, the battle for first place was epic with a tie
between the Ninja Turtles and Stealth Texas from the get go, but then the Turtles
edged into the lead, only to get jumped by Stealth in Round Five who rode it
down the line to a superb finish with a big score of 88!
Shout out to teams Dos XX's and Rockafellers. The Dos XX's hadn't played in a
long time, but got back into the swing of things while Rockafellers' better half
didn't show up into well into round two, but accomplished a high score anyway.
A tip of the esoteric hat was acknowledged by this quiz master as the group
June 44 was on the Round Six handout for yesterday's remembrance of D-Day. Bet
you didn't think I noticed! Clever buggers. Shredder Squad nailed a decent
second place, Binge Thinking got two successful Double-or-Nothings and one
unsuccessful one while the Hilltoppers got too cocky and Doubled out early.
That's the wrap-up. Everybody have a great weekend! Quiz Master Lou, over and
out!
King Trivia Pub Quiz at the Lion & Crown in Allen last night offered its usual
merriment, competitiveness and fellowship; But, it also gave us something extra.
Street Smarts won first place! Congratulations to this team's recent addition
to the L&C not too long ago who have, in their short time here, steadily grown
in trivia knowledge. To boot, their victory was well won, coming out of no-
where with a Round Six Double-or-Nothing that pushed them into the top position.
They managed to cling to it through Round Seven with a two point lead. Well
done Street Smarts!
But the drama never ends at the L&C. The Ninja Turtles tied with Stealth Texas
in a 57 point mash-up. Turtles ended up with the second place win on a tie
breaker by guessing at the number of calories in a McDonald's Egg White Delight
McMuffin. Both teams overshot but Turtles ended up closer. You never saw a
sadder face on a third place winner. Cheer up, Matt!
Another great question set from our Quiz writers as well. Rounds one and two
were deceptively easy with a lot of DoN's being won, but the teams hit a col-
lective wall in Round three. They all knew Casablanca and My Little Pony, but
didn't have a clue about Afghanistan or the Friendship Paradox. Hmmm... Not
enough geography-psychologists out there I guess. As for Round Seven... All
Quiz Master Lou can say is, "There are lies, damned lies, and statistics!"
(With apologies to Benjamin Disraeli, or Mark Twain, or whomever...)
Have a great weekend everybody! Toodles!

It was a gathering of the ten tribes at the Lion & Crown Public House in Allen,
last night. Newbies the Terrible Two's signed on board and joined nine other
seasoned regulars for some really clever question sets. Kudos to our quiz
writers out west who gave us a nice spread of literature, eighties trivia and...
Cereal? Well, you heard it hear first, folks.
Our round three theme round concentrated on breakfast cereals, "Cereal Killer"
being the titular pun, while round seven focused on the various shapes of the
bits one gets out of a box of Lucky Charms. (It was magically inventive!) Not
only was it a trip down memory lane, recalling old commercials and cereal box
advertising, but it brought to mind how American television (and now the internet)
has shaped our public perception regarding that meal we call "breakfast".
One question in particular made Quiz Master Lou think about a film from the
nineties called The Road to Wellville. An interesting piece based on a novel
by T. Coraghessan Boyle, it told the story of Dr. John Harvey Kellogg and his
forays into human health through diet (and other things) at Battle Creek,
Michigan. Alan Parker made it into a subtle comedy. And now, I want a bowl
of cereal...
The return of Stealth Texas signaled a homecoming victory as well while Bar
Guy's team made an auspicious second place win. Ninja Turtles early lead got
diminished to an ending third position despite the fact that it was International
Turtle Day. (Go figure!)
That's it! I'm out! Have a great Memorial Day weekend!
