The quiz at the pub went well last night with eight teams on the
roster. A good turn out despite the wet weather. We're starting
to see more of our older teams returning to their old stomping
grounds again as evidence by Binge Thinking's (love that team
name!) presence.
Three newbies joined the fray. The Keen Team pulled a major
surprise during the Guess Who Round by getting the 10 Point
Clue on the first try. Turns out the lovely old woman out for
a lark with her grandson grew up in Paul Newman's neck of the
woods! How's that for a cosmic co-inky dink? FNG had fun but
finished last while KSA kicked some asphault and took home third
prize!
The Boolers should have known better but went for broke on a
Double-or-Nothing and ened up in seventh place while Velvet
Hammered landed just outside the winner's circle. Pickles on a
Plato snagged second and Ship It!, enjoying a winning streak,
captured first again this week!
The Theme Round seemed to be the one that perplexed all but the
most literary minded as it delved into the details of the Brothers
Grimm and their fairy tales. Nevertheless, more than one team
knew that Dame/Mother Gothel was Rapunzel's captor. However,
style points went to guesses such as The Big Chungus and Heath
Ledger.
It's the weekend! Do something! See ya next week, y'all!
Once again this Thursday at the Lion & Crown in Allen proved that
King Trivia Pub Quiz draws them in. With what at first appeared
to be a sparse gathering turned into a fairly boisterous crowd
all brimming with enthusiasm for "the Quiz".
Two newbie teams joined the fray. A large table of excitables
who styled themselves The Leftovers had obviously gathered for
some sort of group function but now that dinner was done, a quiz
seemed to be the next logical step. A happy duo paying hommage
to a particular Tampa Bay Buccaneer decided on Gronk ow ow Ski!
Regulars Pickles on a Plate, Velvet Hammered, Dallas Boolers Club
and Ship It! kept things real. This gathering of Quizzicles
dominated the pub.
Velvet Hammered, the man from Metaluna, managed the winner's
circle once again with a third place win. The Boolers pooled
their resources into second place; Yet, it was Ship It! who
scored the top prize with a strategic Double-or-Nothing on the
Hand-Out Round and a 90% on the Round Seven challenge. Team
Captain Billy was indefatigable being both a sports knowledge
master and a whiz at baking! (R7 required naming the ten
ingredients in Betty Crocker's Ultimate Chocolate Chip Cookies
recipe.)
The evening's best wrong guess came from trying to name the
Roman version of the Greek goddess Athena. Some wag at a loss
tumbled to proffer Zena. (From Warrior Princess to Goddess?)
That's not all I've got, but column space and better judgement
prevail. Have a great weekend everybody!
It was a blitzkrieg of bustle as buisness boomed last night at
the bacchanalian Lion & Crown, as it bristled with brainy buccaneers
all bubbling with boozy brass! (Whew! Alliterate that you wordless,
witless, wafflers!)
We started off with eight teams (but lost one right out of the gate
as they bailed due to noise pollution - try finding a quiet sports
bar). The big dark horse of the evening was returning newbie
team (is that a thing?) Oh Sh... who started off in last place
but ended up in first by evening's end with two Double-or-Nothing's
back-to-back in the final two rounds! The young man in the green
hat whose rebel yells cracked glasses and burst ear drums revealed
he was a summer school teacher of geography. Our last two question
sets concerned Spanish translations of sea animals and the ten
U.S. States to first ratify the Constituion in 1799. (Talk about
wheelhouse...)
A chagrined Ship It! slipped to second while the returning Dallas
Booler's Club picked up third. Pickles on a Plate fell a rung
to fourth and Velvet Hammered ended in fifth, even with 42 points!
Nice to see So Much Pressure and Jarvis come back.
In the department of Mirthful Wrong Guesses, style points go to
the team that answered Chip 'n Dale in trying to keen the title
of Disney's The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. In the Department
of Astounding Right Guesses, Dallas Booler's Club surprised all
by getting the Guess Who Round's ten point clue on the first go!
The famous person was Samuel L Jackson and the cryptic tip had
to do with his overcoming a stutter as a child. The guy that
figured that one out had just read a bio of Jackson which stated
one of the tongue twisters SLJ employed was repitition of the
base and common MF'r. This quiz master noted that not only did
it cure him of his speech impediment, it became his moneymaker,
as he gets paid $50,000.00 every time he says it. Nice work if
you get it, eh?
Have a (insert your adjective here) weekend.
