Everyone was in the Christmas spirit at the Lion & Crown in Allen last night, happy to
drink, happy to play and just plain happy to be there! Packed to the gills, in addition
to eight of our regular teams, several tables of patrons decided to form six additional
newbie teams! The joint was loud and proud with monikers ranging from the socially
acceptable to the fringes of good taste. Dos XX's and Chaotic Unicorns actually registered
their teams while Dog Star didn't. (I guess they weren't Sirius...) Pard provided the
loud and the late comers USA provided the proud while I Pooped My Pants provided the requisite
amount of crudeness for a bar. (After their introduction, they were thereafter known as
IPiMP).

Pickles on a Plate provided Quiz Master Lou with a Santa Cap, thus putting me in the role
jolly old Nicolas and inadvertently causing me to warble out a stanza of Blue Christmas
with the Smart Asses providing spontaneous back up. The Picture Round provided the most
mirth with some interesting wrong guesses... J.R. was mistaken for Maverick. The Doctor
Who Weeping Angel racked up the most wrong guesses, getting such interesting reckonings as
True Blood, Law & Order, Dare Devil and Reno 911. The team that couldn't remember the
title Breaking Bad got style points for offering Methland; And, for some strange reason,
Stranger Things got four presumptions of Sesame Street and one notion of Wheel of Fortune!

Speaking of stranger things, another first for QM Lou. Two tie breakers. The top two
scores of 51 points between Stealth Texas and the Ninja Turtles and the next two highest
scores of 48 points between IFFY! and Pickles on a Plate. Christmas drama! And to top
off a sublime evening, Quiz Master Lou threw a sublime dart game after the quiz with an
astonishing Cricket win of three darts in the Bullseye. (Two doubles and a single!)

I would just like to say thank you and a Merry Christmas to all the players of King
Trivia Pub Quiz, to all the patrons (Rob, Sandra, Derek, Kito, Niko) of King Trivia Pub
Quiz, to all the Quiz Masters (and Mistresses) of King Trivia Pub Quiz, and to all the
admin staff at King Trivia Pub Quiz... David and Sara and Josh and all the rest,
I wish you and yours the happiest of holiday seasons!

Awesome and awesomeness was the atmosphere at the Lion & Crown last night as we head into
the Christmas holiday season. The stalwartness (if that is a word) cannot be underplayed
of our regular teams, who show up faithfully each Thursday for King Trivia Pub Quiz. That
being said, it is the newbies who pop up and throw themselves into the fun who also rate
attention.

A table of patrons who styled themselves Thomas Team played with great panache and
enthusiasm. The Street Smarts, three ladies of singular intellect and savvy, actually
held second place for three rounds running; And that, without the benefit of a registration
two point bonus! Finally, my personal fave were the chaps at the bar who adopted the
moniker Jonny Quest. Being men after Quiz Master Lou's own heart, we waxed jubilant on
the retro merits of the Quest cartoons, each professing their favorite episode. The jolly
fellow on crutches voted for The Invisible Monster, while his bearded companion chose
Turu the Terrible. Yours Truly opted for Terror Island. In the space of signing up a
new team, a common bond of fellowship was celebrated and joy was spread. It didn't
matter that they dropped out after Round Three to watch the game.

Ninja Turtles retained their resident champ status once again with a 58 point win. (I
think it's the baby!) Bar Guy and the rowdies won second while the Hooligans got third.
Highlights of the evening included Quiz Master Lou's incredulity at how many people knew
the answers to the Round Two Plush Pal toys; And, the appreciation he received for warbling
the first stanza of Viva Las Vegas in his best Elvis impression. Thanks, all.

Stay well, friends!

Sudden drama! That was the situation at the Lion & Crown Public House as we gathered for
our usual Thursday night soiree' of cheer, beer and trivia. Our first sudden drama took
place when Pickles on a Plate started off the evening with a first place lead in Round
One. Infrequent players the Footclan, who show up quarterly but usually win, grabbed the
lead and held it for rounds two through five. Then, sudden drama! Blood, Bath & Beyond
bled into the top spot on Round Six and ended with a 58 point win in for the final.

Smart Asses got second with 57 points while... Get this. Footclan duked it out with
Walker Texas Rangers over a 56 point tie, managing to win the tie breaker for third!
Sudden drama!

Quiz Master Lou enjoyed some dramatic buffalo wings, a couple of pints of dramatic
Guiness and a dramatic game of darts or two with Matt after the game was over. The
first game was dramatic, being tied all the way to the final two bullseyes. The second
game was, well... Perhaps histrionic is a better word. (QM Lou won!) Drama!

Perhaps all this drama is a good lead up to the Tournament of Champions? Some of my
local Texas teams are in the top percentile. Tequila Mockingbird and Stealth Texas
just to name a couple.

Kudos to the quiz writers who managed a great cross section of literature, history,
pop culture, sports and consumerism in the question sets this week. Very dramatic!

Have a terrific weekend, hopefully without all the drama...
