Good vibes at the pub last night, considering the weird vibes that had preceded
them during the day. Is it me, or is it a little tense out there? Just sayin'...

The teams really mixed it up. Literally. Blood, Bath & Beyond joined forces with
IFFY! and Ship It! to form an as yet unheard of triple alliance. The Smart Asses
were undermanned but not under brained while Hilltoppers, Rockerfellers, Bar Guy
and Stealth TX did their thing. Street Smarts did their thing too, except they
knuckled under to that deadly demon of temptation, the Double-or-Nothing of
desperation! Newbies Steve T + 3 joined late and Just A Tip multi-tasked a game
of Cards Against Humanity while trivializing with the King. A big welcome back
to the prodigal team, Bastard Barristers, who managed an eleventh hour DoN that
propelled them into a second place win. Ninja Turtles defended their resident
champ title by taking first.

Another excellent quiz from our KTPQ writers out in Kal I Forneye Ay. Hilarity
ensued with some of the answers. Someone thought Hawkgirl's partner was "Your
Mom". Jack Ruby didn't shoot Lee Harvey Oswald. Red Skelton did. And as for
Quiz Master Lou... When it's a fifty-fifty chance, I usually get it wrong! I
went for the Wall Street Journal over the NY Times on my test run and guess what?
I announced those who guessed WSJ got it right! Oh the embarrassment...

Open the pod bay doors, Hal.
I'm afraid I can no longer allow human error to jeopardize this mission.
Daisy, daisy, give me your answer, true...
Disengage. End program. Power off.

For Quiz Master Lou, a great pub quiz is one that accomplishes three things:

1) It is just easy enough to give people a chance to win, thus encouraging participation.
2) It is just hard enough to keep everyone from winning, thus promoting competition.
3) It has just enough improv cues in it to give Quiz Master Lou a platform to perform!

Thus it was that last night's King Trivia Pub Quiz at the Lion & Crown in Allen
fulfilled all three of these principles and sparked a sublime evening of trivia
and mirth.

First up, the Moby Dick question allowed QML to launch into his Gregory Peck
rendition of Captain Ahab's most serious inquiry to the crew of the Pequod...
"What kind of a whale is Moby Dick?" Next, my version of Somewhere Over the
Refracted Light set Harold Arlen and Yip Harburg spinning in their graves so
fast their combined RPM's would be able to power MGM studios for a year! And
finally, what could be better than a Find-the-Connection/Buffy the Vampire
Slayer Round? The Master: "Two Slayers?!?" Buffy: "No waiting." (Bam!)
While the afterglow of last night's KTPQ dies slowly down, like the embers of a
fire, Quiz Master Lou just wants to say...

Ninja Turtles reasserted their resident champ status with two consecutive
Double-or-Nothing's in the final two rounds finishing 1st with 72 points! The
Smart Asses sat at the bar and came in second while combined elements of Bar
Guy and Stealth Texas picked up third.

Have a great weekend everybody!

This unseasonably cool weather Texas is experiencing could be a factor, or it
might just be the usual time of year for folks to stay away from their frequent
pub and go on vacation or indulge in some other activity while the kids are out
of school. In any case, despite the lack of a crowded Lion & Crown last night,
a vociferous few managed to keep the cacophony of conversations turned up. So
much so that a shout-out in Round Five KO'd someone's chance of a even Double-
or-Nothing.

Two newbie teams brought a little extra competition to the game. Cancel HBO did
not register their team but managed to place third for a couple of rounds despite
not having that two point bonus. On the other hand, The Andals did register,
earned the two pointer, but decided to bail in Round Three. Curious. When Quiz
Master wrote down their team moniker on the roster, he wondered aloud what it
might mean. Vandals without the V? To deface the competition? Candles without
the C? To light their way to victory? Handle without the H? To competently
conduct each question? No. It was an S, as in sandal. They walked.

A great set of questions. Too bad Quiz Master Lou wasn't a player. He would've
doubled down and won the Round Two Hirschfeld caricature challenge. Of course,
so did four other teams, so nothing special there. Street Smarts really coming
into their own these days with another First Place win while Ship It! came back
into the fold with Second. Representatives of Stealth Texas upheld the champ's
honor with a decent third.

Thanks to our Quiz overlords who turned Quiz Master Lou onto the alt rock band,
the Presidents of the United States. I dug their video tune Peaches. Who knew
a song about a benign little old fruit could be packed with a martial arts fight
with ninjas? Have a great weekend everybody!
