The genius that is King Trivia Pub Quiz is that by offering answers to questions
that are relatable in some way casts doubt (or not) in the minds of the players
as to the verity of their choices. Thus, the decision to Double-or-Nothing can
be devastatingly successful or disasterously fatal. For example, relate the
following...
Mork and Mindy - Happy Days - Laverne and Shirley
Which begat the other? Or, put another way, "Who's your daddy?" Even those in
the know can be wracked with jumbled memories of the episodes where Mork goes out
on a date with Laverne or When Mork bests the Fonz in a duel. What show did
that happen on? One thing is for certain... Rhoda was Mary's friend!
Rhonda was Laverne and Shirley's friend. But, I digress...
Bar Guy made a dramatic win in the final round with a sensational DoN. Blood, Bath
& Beyond/Ship It! Alliance slid into second rather neatly. But some appropriate
drama created a nexus of conflict between, get this, the Ninja Turtles and
Shredder Squad! What could be more fated? They had to play a Tie-Breaker for third
place, which the NT's won handily. Just like a comic book!
Until next week, I remain, Quiz Master Lou.

It was with aplomb and authority that the Ninja Turtles took the lead in last
night's King Trivia Pub Quiz at the Lion & Crown in Allen, Texas. Managing two
consecutive, astounding Double-or-Nothing's in rounds one and two, the NT's leapt
a full length ahead of their nearest competition and essentially ran their own
race for the rest of the evening!
The unholy alliance of Blood, Bath & Beyond/Ship It! achieved a satisfying second
place win while Bar Guy's amalgam team fought for a hard won third place ranking,
just shouldering out the Hooligans by a single point! Exciting stuff!
A big welcome back to the Men of Troy, who haven't defended their city walls in
some time. And welcome to newbie teams, The Terrible Two, Blue Jeans and (my
personal fave), You Had Me at Meat Tornado.
Mirth, amusement and style points for some outlandishly wrong guesses. Like the
team that supplanted Mars Rover Opportunity with Wall-EE. Likewise, those who
mistook Hugo Chavez for El Chapo (although, the sentiment may have been correct).
It's probably a generational thing, but I suppose Marilyn Manson is as good a
"Prince of Darkness" as Ozzy Osbourne. And, interestingly enough, more teams
concluded that Scientologists were the Hale-Bopp Comet cult instead of Heaven's
Gate!
Well, that's all the news that fits. Quiz Master Lou reporting!

It went a little something like this... Generally speaking, equilibrium was
fairly maintained in Round One. Round Two, you had to know your baseball hall-
of-famers. Round Three, the state got involved. Round Four went either way.
Round Five had everything but beans. Round Six had a ringer (clang, clang,
clang went the dolly! Ding, ding, ding... You get the picture.) while Round
Seven was almost Travolting.
You had to be there. Where? Lion & Crown in Allen, of course! Excellent
players. Excellent questions. Excellent food & drink (Quiz Master Lou partook
of the fish sans chips last night... Delicious!) and excellent gamesmanship!
Stealth Texas, partnered in an unholy alliance with the Hooligans (Stealthigans?),
grabbed the lead early and just kept building on it all the way to the finish.
Blood, Bath & Beyond, with some help from Ship It! and some out-of-town relations,
sewed up second place neatly. Drama came in the last round when the Ninja
Turtles beat out Beer Logic in a tie breaker for third. Quiz Master Lou
believes baby Ninja Turtle was the deciding factor (just as a baby stacked the
odds in Masaki Kobayashi's Samurai Rebellion [1967]. Don't believe me? Look
it up!
Things got weird in the Find-the-Connection round. Most likely due to Quiz
Master Lou's weirdness, as he attempted an improvised mash-up of Marathon Man
and The Graduate.
Mrs. Robinson: Is it safe?
Ben Braddock: Is what safe?
MR: Is it safe?
BB: What?
MR: (Gouges him with a dentist probe) Is it safe?
BB: Owww! Yes! It's safe! It's very safe!
MR: Is it safe? Is it really safe, Ben?
BB: Mrs. Robinson, are you trying to torture me?
MR: I'm very flattered. Do you want to be tortured, Ben?
Excellent players. Excellent questions. Excellent weirdness. Until next week!
