Quiz Master Lou is happy to report that another successful King
Trivia Pub Quiz went down last night at the Lion & Crown Pub in
Allen. Thanks to Michael back at KTPQHQ who
trouble shot yours truly through a foolish user error. After a
slight connection drop out, we were able to complete our quiz to
its fullest extent. After all, it is better to suffer a slight
loss of connectivity than it is to connect with a loser... (Don't
ask, I just channel this stuff.)
Five of our regular teams competed with aplomb. Scores ended up
tighter than the blank on a blank with a blankety-blank. (Insert
your colorful euphemism here and imagine Slim Pickens saying it.)
It was nice to see the return of There Will be Blood & Honey.
Although they ended in fifth place it was no disgrace. Pickles
on a Plate took fourth, just outside the winner's circle. The
three finalists achieved the equivalent of lightning striking
twice since for the second time in my career as a QM I have now
witnessed a three way tie for first place! Deadly Alliance,
Rockerfellers and Dallas Boolers Club faced off for a tie breaker
which netted them their one, two and three spots respectively!
Quiz Master Lou threw some darts all by himself afterwards. That's
the news for now. Until next week, I remain, faithfully yours!
Last night's King Trivia Pub Quiz got stretched out a bit as we
struggled through some growing pains with our new scoring app.
Never one to be cowed by obstacles, Quiz Master Lou and the gangs
improvised, adapted and overcame. As King Arthur (a different
king than our lord Trivia) once said as he rode into the final
conflict against Mordred, fog descending and obscuring the battlefield,
"We'll use the old ways!" The new app actually has some great
advantages. It should play well once QM Lou learns how to use it
(or it, him... Remember, Technology is here for our convenience!)
We had eight teams clashing their figurative swords for trivia
dominance. Newbie Brothers Grimm enjoyed himself as well as did
Gronk. The Bumble Bees bumbled a bit while old friends Deadly
Alliance and Dallas Boolers Club tied for fourth place. Pickles
on a Plate carried off a solid third place win. A big welcome
back to Stealth Texas, who, prodigal son like, returned to us and
snagged a second place victory! The big prize goes to Sanitize
or Die, who surprised by getting a leg up in Round Four by getting
the ten point clue, propelling them into first where they held
it doggedly until game's end. Congratulations!
Another great question set from the King, which intrigued, tittillated
and tantalized our ponderers. Perhaps Round Seven's challenge
was inspired by a Myers-Briggs Type Indicator? It wanted to know
who are Kris Jenner's five daughters and who the five U.S. Presidents
were who attended Yale. Guess which one got the most correct
answers? Extraploate. Consider. Have a nice weekend!
Happy weekend out there to all as we wrap up yet another weekly
installment of Thursday night's King Trivia Pub Quiz at ye olde
Lion & Crown in lovely Watter's Creek! And lovely it was despite
unexpected adversity when Quiz Master Lou showed up for his usual
gig only to discover that the pub had been preempted by a private
function and all regular business had been relegated to the patio!
(Somebody forgot to tell someone something somewhere!) But...
No problemo. Ole Quiz Master Lou rolls with the punches. I didn't
do improv for nothin' ya know. Securing a small table (sorry I
spilled your drink, mister) I quickly set up in the flower bed
so as to avoid blocking the waiters' egress to the patio crowd
(never let it be said that QM Lou isn't thoughtful) and proceeded
to broadcast from the geraniums. (Those blue bonnets probably
won't recover but heck, they're plentiful in Texas and sacrifices
have to be made!)
Stalwart loyals the FNG's, Velvet Hammered, Pickles on a Plate
and our long-time-no-see friends the Rockerfellers showed up and
enjoyed playing on the patio (the weather was great!) and were
joined by newbies Sven, who later had trouble with the scoring
app and bailed early. Too bad, I enjoyed their particiapation
and especially their contribution. Their large table of patrons
complained to the management they couldn't hear the questions and actually got staff to shut off the jukebox! It was lovely quiet!
(Except of course for QM Lou's incessant questions and quips!)
Pickles took first place, Rockerfellers got second and Velvet
snagged third.
We have to thank our quiz writing overlords out west for yet another
brilliant question set this week. The Theme Round of "Dash" was
pretty good and the wag who didn't know Jane Austen's Sense and
Sensibilty's Elinor and Marianne Dashwood simply put down "Dash
Me!" for the answer. Style points awarded. Round Five's Find-
the-Connection was clever/lofty with some pretty hard questions
leading to the motif of British Prime Ministers, but my smarty
teams got it! Perhaps QM Lou's fave was Round Six's Match the
'Mountain' song to the Artist. Everything from Rocky Mountain
High to Ain't no Mountain High Enough to In the Hall of the Mountain King (Yes!) was on there, but QM Lou feels KT was remiss for not including Donovan's There is a Mountain. But then, life is full
of missed opportunities...
That's all I got. Come on down next time, y'all! Have a great
weekend! Bye!
