Ten teams. Eight vets. Two newbies. No waiting. That was the scene at the Lion &
Crown in Allen last night as competitors clashed in close combat to claim championship
kudos at King Trivia! No kidding!
Welcome to Walker Texas Rangers and The Louie's. Quiz Master Lou, named likewise, had a
moment of panic when team chief Louie walked up to hand his quiz page in during the Guess
Who Round because if two Louie's make contact in the same universe and one is composed of
anti-matter, a catastrophic implosion might occur cancelling out both entities and possibly
causing a chain reaction that would destroy both universes! Fortunately, both parties
must have been made of positive material as no such physics calamity occurred. Sorry,
but I think of these things.
Some interesting rounds this week. Even die hard Nick Cage fans had a tough time identifying
all his screen shots correctly. IFFY! guessed The Croods might be a movie called The Good
Dinosaur. And Face/Off was guessed as Face Lift. Also, Kick-Ass got theorized as Bad Karma.
All answers from the alternate universe. One note on Round Six, Match the Ingredients to
the drink... The bartenders were forbidden to kibitz and yet the teams that hung out at
the bar made their Double-or-Nothing's. Quiz Master Lou monitored that bunch closely, too.
There was no jiggery pokery going on. Drinkers drink and know their drinks and a cigar is
just a cigar ofttimes. 'Nuff said.
That said, have a marvelous weekend as we head into turkey execution month. Bye for now!
All's well that ends well were the watch words last night at the Lion & Crown Public
House in Allen as eight teams competed and only three get to bring home those prizes.
The Hilltoppers started out strong with a Double-or-Nothing win in Round One, but slipped
later on, only to rebound in Round Five and eventually come back for a third place win.
A word about the Hilltoppers. They're a fun family who never let life's misfortunes get
them down. A while back, one of them lost their home to a fire. How does Quiz Master
Lou know? They told me. At the pub. Only a few days after it happened. Most folks I
know would be paralyzed with depression after such an event, but they shrugged it off and
decided to play King Trivia Pub Quiz instead. And last night, the lovely daughter who
often accompanies their disabled father, confided to me that she is going into the hospital
for some radical cancer surgery next week. She only wanted Quiz Master Lou to know so I
wouldn't worry about her absence for the next few weeks. Also, how much she will miss
playing KTPQ while she recuperates. She even joked about playing via tele-remote from
the hospital. Quiz Master Lou wishes he could run a quiz just for her while she's
there. My best wishes for your recovery, my dear.
Life can be hard sometimes. And sometimes life can be hard a lot. Life happens to all
of us, but it is how each of us handles it that makes us individuals. The Hilltoppers
are some of the best individuals I know. We live in stressful times. Many of us fear
for the future. And many do not handle it well. Quiz Master Lou believes if more folks
around the country handled life like the Hilltoppers, we wouldn't live in such stressful
times.
Anon, friends...

"Nor rain, nor sleet nor dark of night shall stay these couriers from their appointed
rounds." is the Postman's Creed. At the Lion & Crown on Thursdays, threat of rain,
flash flood, nor strike of lightning shall keep beer drinking trivia players from their
game! Actually, the weather stayed relatively calm though the threat was real, so it
was a rather balmy, cool evening in and out of the pub, making for a decent atmosphere
in which to play.
The return of the Ninja Turtles energized the competition somewhat, along with two newbie
teams, the oxymoronic Lone Wolves and the Positive Dogs. Hmmm... Must've been something
particularly Lupine/Canine in the air last night. Perhaps a were creature was lurking
nearby. After all, we are close to Halloween. Stealth Texas squeezed into first place
by one point over the Turtles while Blood, Bath & Beyond took third.
Quiz Ponders & Observations:
Identify the MLB player got the most Double-or-Nothing's and the scores all shot up.
If Xenon is a noble gas, what would be an undignified gas? On second thought, don't
answer that!
X-Force and not X-Men?!? Who knew?
How can Emmy Rossum be so talented, have such a wide body of work and be on a long
running series, but still remain so obscure?
Just a thought, who goes to Turkey for their vacation?
That's all the news that fits! Have a great weekend!
